Betty Criswell Hungerford ’54, H’09 stepped down as chair of LVC’s Alumni Awards Committee. She received an LVC Alumni Citation in 1992, a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2004, and an Honorary Doctorate in 2009.

Rev. W. Franklin Lantz ’57 celebrated his 40th anniversary since ordination to Christian ministry in the Evangelical United Brethren Church (Methodist), now United Church of Christ. He said LVC was his prelude to the ministry.

’60s

June Stringer Rietdorf ’63 directs and plays for two choruses in Englewood, Fla., where she and her husband, Timothy, spend six winter months each year.

George J. Hollich Jr. ’65, P’95, P’98 was made an honorary alumnus of Milton Hershey School.

Steve Roberts ’65 and his wife, Janet Gessner Roberts ’68, retired. They were the owners of EchoData Group. Steve is a member emeritus of the LVC Board of Trustees who served for almost two decades, receiving emeritus recognition in 2013.

Dr. John Gregory ’66, a retired professor of mathematics education, University of Florida College of Education, shared some LVC memorabilia with LVC President James MacLaren. John sent Dr. MacLaren a pin from the 1966 Centennial that noted he had a “Beard Permit.” Students were not allowed to have a beard at the time but could petition to have one as part of the 100-year celebration. The students then voted on who had the best beard that year.

Don MacGowan ’66 shared a photo of a Zoom reunion of the West Hall Gang, held during LVC’s virtual Homecoming Weekend last fall. Don said the “gang,” primarily members of the Classes of 1965–69, “have many fond memories of living in the former West Hall.”

Dr. Michael J. Campbell ’69 retired as a music professor from Young Harris College in Georgia. He taught saxophone, directed the jazz band, taught advanced conducting (instrumental and choral), and music appreciation. He served as an adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor throughout the U.S.

Michael Reidy ’70 won several awards for two of his novels. “Lost Lady” won a Chill with a Book Reader’s Award and a BRAG Medallion Award. “The Rock Pool” won Book of the Year from Chill. “Thoughts and Whispers” by Rev. Ruth McAllister Michael Reidy ’70 Burgess ’74 and her husband, the Rev. Mark A. Burgess ’75, retired in July 2019.

John Ellis ’74 retired from teaching after 39 years. He was a seventh-grade teacher in the Penns Grove-Carney’s Point School District in New Jersey.

Nelson Rudiak ’76 wrote and recorded “Corona Virus Blues,” which has been played worldwide. Inspired and taught by his brother, the late John Rudiak ’72, he launched a fine art photography website.

Roseann McGrath Brooks ’82 published her first novel, a Christian romance, “All for Good,” which is available on Kindle and Amazon. She expressed her thanks to the LVC English Department for teaching her how to write.

Dr. Camille DeClementi ’90 was recognized by 92Y (www.92Y.org) as a 2021 Women in Power Fellow. She is vice president of ASPCA Animal Hospital.

Steve Trapnell ’90 is vice president, senior communications consultant for Fulton Bank. He has worked as a journalist, college instructor, and corporate communications practitioner in the financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, and transportation/ logistics industries.

Dr. Amy Earhart ’91, associate professor of English and affiliated faculty of Africana Studies at Texas A&M University, was named a 2020 President Impact Fellowship Recipient. She also received a NEH-Mellon Fellowship for Digital Publishing for her “Digital Humanities and the Infrastructures of Race in African- American Literature” project.

Michelle May Herrold ’92 is associate director of training at Trustmark Health Benefits in Lancaster.

Kevin M. Shertz ’95 attained his Delaware professional architectural licensure. He is registered in Maryland and Delaware, working out of Davis, Bowen & Friedel Inc.’s Salisbury office.

David Bohr ’97 released his second novel, “The Jewelry of Grace,” in January. His first novel, “The Pride of Central,” was on the Amazon best-seller’s list for its genre for 17 days.

The Hon. Bryan Cutler ’01 was elected to his first full-term as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He served as speaker during the last quarter of the 2019–20 session.

Thomas Killian Jr. ’01, M’11 is the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health’s director. He is working on his doctorate in psychology from Northcentral University in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Dr. Michael Pence ’09 is an active duty anesthesiologist who serves as assistant chief of the Department of Anesthesiology at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga. During the pandemic, he managed the operating room schedule, cared for patients, and provided emergency airway control to patients impacted by the disease. He noted that “the educational foundation I received while obtaining my LVC biology degree allowed me to stay up to date on recommendations and synthesize the data. This training enabled me to continue managing patients safely despite working under added pressure.”

FRIENDS OF THE COLLEGE

Pope Francis named Bishop Edward C. Malesic to lead the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio. He led the Diocese of Greensburg since July 2015. He attended LVC for three years before enrolling in a seminary.
