Traditionally, we welcome and acknowledge the College’s newest Laureate Society* and Lifetime Vickroy Associates** each spring at an on-campus event. Since we were unable to do so in 2020, we wish to share a special thank you with this distinguished group in this report. Videos highlighting these generous donors can be viewed on our YouTube channel.
We express our sincere appreciation for these donors whose generosity to LVC helps us transform so many students’ lives. Your commitment to The Valley propels us forward.
*Established in 1997, the Laureate Society Recognizes those individuals whose extraordinary gifts to the College, madeduring their lifetime or posthumously, total $1,000,000 or more.
**In recognition of their lasting commitment to Lebanon Valley College, we are pleased to honor new Lifetime Vickroy Associateswho have a cumulated lifetime giving total of more than $100,000.
Laureate Society ($1 million+)
Dr. Valentino V. Sica ’50 and Katherine Sica
The Sicas established The Valentino Sica ’50 Endowed Scholarship in 2019 to support one or more Lebanon Valley College students each year. Eligible candidates should display good academic standing, good character, and demonstrate financial need. Dr. Sica is a retired family physician from Sparta, N.J. He and his wife’s lifetime giving surpassed $1,000,000 in 2019.
Lifetime Vickroy Associates ($100,000+)
Rocco and Nancy Ortenzio Foundation
Through their foundation, Rocco Ortenzio H’17 andNancy Ortenzio established The Rocco and Nancy Ortenzio Scholarship in 2018 to support a student with financial need. Preference is given to students whog raduated from Bishop McDevitt High School inHarrisburg, Pa., or who are from Harrisburg or Steelton, Pa.
A visionary in the field of physical therapy, RoccoOrtenzio founded or co-founded four public companiesfocused on healthcare. He is vice chairman andco-founder of Select Medical Holdings Corporation.He received an Honorary Doctor of Science from LVCduring the 2017 Commencement.
The Rocco and Nancy Ortenzio Foundation is dedicatedto improving our communities through strongerhealthcare and education opportunities.
Michael S. Beyer ’80 and June Collier Beyer ’80
The Beyers have been loyal LVC supporters since meeting in the Registrar’s Office their senior year and marrying in 1981. Mike previously served on the College’s Board of Trustees, and today the couple volunteer for the Leadership Council. They are members of The Walter Society, the College’s consecutive-giving society, and annual Thomas Rhys Vickroy Society donors.
Mike is the chief executive officer of Beyer Automotive Group, and June is the founder of June Beyer Art LLC, which connects creative women through the arts. In honor of Mike’s student-athlete experience at LVC, the couple was the second lead donors for creating the Shankroff Tennis Center on campus. A plaque is displayed near the courts in recognition of their philanthropy. In honor of one of June’s faculty mentor as an education major, the Beyers also have supported LVC’s June Herr Educational Resource Room.
Alan M. Newsome ’07 and Ashton R. Lattimore
Alan and Ashton established The Newsome Family Endowed Scholarship in 2017 to support African-American students. They began the scholarship to recognize the place that provided the foundation for Alan’s career and interest in life-long learning. The couple recognizes the value of a liberal arts college experience and wants to provide a path to that style of education to deserving students, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented at LVC.
Alan, a member of the Board of Trustees and 2017 recipient of LVC’s Young Alumni Award, is AVP, Head of Investment Risk and Analytics, at Venerable. Ashton, a graduate of Harvard University and Columbia University, is editor-in-chief at Prism. This BIPOC-led non-profit news outlet centers on the people, places, and issues currently underreported by national media.
Alan and Ashton are members of The Walter Society, the College’s consecutive-giving society, and The Thomas Vickroy Society, LVC’s leadership annual giving society.
Conrad M. Siegel H’18 and Gail Siegel
Conrad “Connie” and Gail have provided extensive support to LVC, notably the Actuarial Science Program, dating to 1964 when Connie collaborated with Dr. Barney Bissinger, late chair of LVC’s Mathematics Department, to establish the major. The couple have been members of The Walter Society, the College’s consecutive-giving society, for more than 25 years.
Connie, who received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from LVC in 2018, served on LVC’s Board of Trustees from 1995–2001. He is the founder and retired chairman of Conrad Siegel, a Harrisburg-based actuarial firm that has hired more than 50 LVC alumni, including three current firm partners. In 1988, the firm established an annual prize for the LVC student who receives the highest passing score on specific actuarial exams.
Connie and Gail made an additional six-figure commitment in 2018 to support the hiring of a faculty member in actuarial research, which will help LVC work toward gaining the distinctive Center for Actuarial Excellence designation. Connie also was involved in securing gifts from current and former LVC alumni partners at Conrad Siegel.
Carol A. Bronson Steiner ’61 and Richard E. Steiner
Carol and Richard have supported the Valley Fund very generously and created The Stratton Scholarship to support central Pennsylvania students, with first preference given to English majors from Lebanon, Lancaster, or Dauphin county. They have been members of The Walter Society, the College’s consecutive-giving society, and provided gifts to the College for more than 35 years. Carol and Richard have been members of The Thomas Rhys Vickroy Society, LVC’s leadership annual giving society, since 1997.
Carol, who began her career as an English teacher, is a life-long community volunteer while raising the couple’s children. Richard is retired from the family’s Connecticut-based residential construction and development business, Steiner Inc.
Ryan H. Tweedie ’93 and Shana E. Barnes
Ryan and Shana are members of The Walter Society, the College’s consecutive-giving society, and The Thomas Rhys Vickroy Society, the College’s leadership annual giving society.
Ryan, a member of LVC’s Board of Trustees since 2010, and Shana have supported the Valley Fund and various capital/building projects. They are members of The Miles Rigor Society, which recognizes and celebrates alumni and friends who have made gift plans, including bequest intentions, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, insurance policies, real estate, and retirement plans for the benefit of Lebanon Valley College.
The Tweedie Meeting Room, a technology-enhanced space for student groups in the Alan W. Mund College Center, is named in their honor. Ryan is a global managing director in the chief information office of Accenture.
