At the turn of the millennium, the most talked-about movie and the most-talked about novel — The Passion of the Christ and The Da Vinci Code — also dealt with Christian origins. The movie’s director strove for historical accuracy, and infuriated secularist critics. The author of the novel drew instead from conspiracy theories, forgeries and frauds, bungling major historical details in almost every chapter, but went largely unchallenged by a credulous media and public.
