Off The Wall / On The Wall Exhibition

Until Saturday 24 April

JAC

Off The Wall began as an online community project on Monday 30 March 2020 to provide enthusiastic photographers in the Island with a weekly creative prompt, and ran in its first incarnation until Friday 11 September. During this time 665 photographs were submitted by 194 photographers! The project was revived in January 2021 as part of our on-going digital programme.

Each weekday, a featured photograph was chosen which displayed the week’s theme, then a composite virtual Gallery of all submitted works was shared on a Friday to celebrate all the works that had been entered. These themes ranged from more abstract ideas such as ‘Home’, ‘Freedom’ and ‘Calm’, to more direct prompts such as ‘Coast’, ‘Wildlife’ and ‘Blue’.

So whether your work is featured in the exhibition, or you would just like to enjoy some beautiful photography, do come along and support this community project – there are so many wonderful images to discover!

seventy-five years

occupation, liberation, reconciliation

Tuesday 27 April - Saturday 22 May

As part of the 75th anniversary of Jersey’s liberation from occupying forces, in 2020 Jersey Arts Centre commissioned 17 Island poets to respond to our title and the ideas of occupation, liberation and reconciliation.

Originally intended to be displayed on the walls of the Berni Gallery during spring 2020, Jersey Arts Centre is now delighted to exhibit these poems, having initially shared them online throughout May 2020.

This unique and compelling word exhibition showcases the literary skills of some of our Island poets and storytellers in relation to the past, the present and the future.

The commissioning of these poems was made possible by a grant from the Bailiff’s Chambers, the Liberation 75 working group and the Government of Jersey.

Love & Rebellion - Photographic Exhibition

Hautlieu School

Monday 24 May - Saturday 12 June

Love & Rebellion is a group exhibition featuring films, photobooks, newspaper and prints produced by A-level photography students at Hautlieu School who have explored issues around youth, gender, race, equality, climate change and recent experiences of the coronavirus pandemic.

Part of students learning was to research global and local context of the legacies of colonialism and racism, as well as protests and activism in art and politics. Collectively, examples of work will be presented as a newspaper distributed Islandwide by the Jersey Evening Post and also be exhibited as part of a pop-up display.
