Doctor Travel’s Tip: Take a Deep Breath When we get upset, we get tense. When we’re tense, we tend to take short, shallow breaths, which only adds to our stress. Quiet our mental chatter, take control, and reduce your stress with some deep, slow breathing. Try inhaling and exhaling to a set count. For example, slowly count to eight while inhaling and then do the same when exhaling: L-o-n-g, s-l-o-w, d-e-ep breaths. Again, l-o-n-g, s-l-o-w, d-e-ep breaths. L-o-n-g, s-l-o-w, d-e-ep breaths. Repeat until you’re calm. An article in the National Business Employment Weekly about relieving stress noted: “Deep breathing clears your mind, refocuses your energy, cleanses your lungs, and increases your body’s oxygen supply.” “The technique,” says the author of the article , Myra Ellen Edelstein, “is so simple that people often forget to use it.” (Taken from page 138) James Feldman, (a.k.a.
