Assistant Professor, Education Librarian, Ed. D (cand.), MLS, MALS When you learn the nature of research the possibilities are endless! As an academic librarian, who is the subject specialist for the School of Education, I research both issues of concern to University libraries and to Schools of Education (and the field of education in general). Each strand of research informs the other. My doctorate is in Teaching and Learning so I enjoy quantitative investigation of teaching investigations.

Ask me about the results of these studies. Library Science: Information Behaviors Educational Psychology: How students learn Research on Information seeking behaviors often focuses on how people use different types of sources within various contexts. By studying how people use information, library researchers can improve technologies, instruction, and services. What kind of research would you like

to see conducted in Axinn library, to improve services?

Library research conducted: What do students really do in the library: An observational study. Graduate students’ patterns of information seeking: A meta-synthesis. Using ACRL Standards to assess the information literacy of graduate students in an Education program The information seeking behavior of mobile library users. Making a place for bibliotherapy on the shelves of a Curriculum Materials Center: The case for helping preservice teachers use developmental bibliotherapy in the classroom. Faculty perceptions and expectations of student information literacy

In some types of educational research we look to see whether certain types of curriculum or teaching methods work with different types of students. Think about the conditions under which you learn best. How effective are the teaching

strategies you often encounter?

I have written on and am presently working on the following educational research: Predictors of science achievement among African-American adolescents: A comparison of multiple national assessments. Evaluation of an online information literacy course by students with disabilities. Transfer of Ability to Evaluate Information in Situated Learning Environments The development and validation of a measure of information evaluation.

Additionally, my first master’s degree is in cultural studies so I enjoy investigating the ways in which cultures differ. Presently, I am completing a book titled: A global history of child death, burial, and parental grieving; a totally morbid, but fascinating subject!
