You’ve been in this profession for nearly half a century. Can you tell us about the details of this craft? What qualities must one possess to take this profession on? It truly is a difficult craft. You need skill to hold a screw and part (as small as a pinhead) using a sharp tweezer with three fingers and make it function properly. You might think you can do it but it’s not that easy. There’s a lot of skill that’s required when holding and moving parts. You have to have a micro-surgeon’s attention and use precision when holding the parts.

So is this a summary of your profession? The details of the profession are based on the fact that the machine you’re dealing with is the smallest of all machines. Imagine pulling apart an automatic watch that’s the size of your pointer fingernail. It may just need repairing. You have to disassemble a piece of machinery that contains roughly 80 parts without interruption and also without leaving fingerprints to prevent it from rusting. Then it has to be put through gas, pre-cleaner, and then you have to dip it into gas again, oil it with a special oil with a moisture level of 0.004 and put it back together again with not a speckle of dust. You have to set it and then close it up. That’s how detailed it is. Furthermore, what I’ve just mentioned is simple clock making for a piece that hasn’t required repairing a part or anything. Repairing a part is much more difficult. You have to love this craft and be patient in order to take this craft on.
