Some may know….and some may wonder…….how is it that NAWIC Guam #381 is known to the world as the “Unstoppable Chapter” “ All such musings come to an end upon meeting one of the “Unstoppables,” NAWIC’s President-elect, Ms. Crystal R. Cruz-Herrera. This unassuming CHammorrita native daughter of Guam, beat the odds and proved her mettle early in life, raising a young family and juggling multiple jobs while pursuing her engineering education at University of Guam. She successfully graduated from the University of HI at Manoa in 2015 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in the face of contrary stereotypes and judgments.

Ms. Cruz-Herrera has a most impressive work history, most recently being employed by the best-in-class Engineering and Construction Management Firm, AMorient Engineering. However, she was smitten by the entrepreneur bug and recently started her own company called MCH Consultants, which she describes as having been “born out of necessity and desire.” The company provides home inspections and independent contractor for inspections, such as reinforced concrete. Her vision is to showcase local engineering talent as a woman-owned and operated technical company, growing internationally through innovation and technology. Although she considers herself to be fairly new to the construction arena, it is quite clear the industry is already benefiting greatly from her energy, passion, and innovation in the field. In addition to her engineering degree, she holds multiple certifications, including an International Code Council Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector, American Concrete Institute Concrete Testing Field Technician Grade I, and an InterNACHI Certified

President-elect Cruz-Herrera feels NAWIC Guam has fostered her professional development and helps her grow a network of “like minded” women. A member of NAWIC since 2019, she has given back to NAWIC and the community by serving on the Board of Directors in a variety of positions including Secretary, Treasurer, and currently President Elect for 2022-2023.

When not working for her company, MCH Consultants, or NAWIC Guam, Crystal prizes her family time. She draws inspiration and strength in providing a strong and loving role model for her two daughters, Maddie (age 7) and Maia (age 17). As for being an engineer, Crystal shared, “This is more than a career for me. This is my personal legacy to my girls”. She is hoping they will learn that despite hardships in life, one must “always take one step forward” and be unstoppable…..just like their mom.
