i never have a statement about my art. but i know for sure, my work is a work in progress. things are non stop moving. the world is changing like cr azy, contempor ary art is today this and tomorrow that, on top of that, myself, i am changing in a unavoidable biological pattern towards the end. nothing is ever steady. i want to speak about that and make art like writing a diary. go through my life, babbling about this and that. i am not looking for any conclusion, more so, i love confusion. that keeps me interested in things.

OLAF BREUNING

JOHN

Most of my imagery has a stodgy aspect, and plays with that as a theatrical trope. It's a pedantic posture. Instead of subversion, I would assign the value of dysfunction to painting.

MILLER

I want someone to look at a sculpture of mine and know that everything is intentional, and to do that in a way that`s not academic or fussy. And I think that someone can really feel that in a work, you know, you just feel when something is realized and when it`s not. You need a kind of philosophical distance from the work because these are objects of philosophy.

TONY MATELLI

OLAF BREUNING

Olaf Breuning (USA, 1970) – is a sensitive artist whose works are full of irony embracing a wide variety of media, including photography, sculpture, installations and video. Specially for the Moscow display Olaf Breuning has created a group of eight marble sculptures with absurd in meaning but elegant in form inscriptions engraved on them. The world have never seen the Epitaphs like these.

City Hall Park exhibition «Lightness of Being» (2013), Happening of Station to station (2013), Miami Art Basel (2013).

Sculptures and installations by Olaf Breuning have become an essential part of urban landscape. The artist has participated in a large number of prestigious public projects, including City Hall Park exhibition «Lightness of Being» (2013), Happening of Station to station (2013), Miami Art Basel (2013).Before the Moscow show, on March 4th 2014, New York’s Central Park hosted the installation of Breuning’s new sculpture group - «The Clouds». The nearly 10-meter-tall sculpture is the artist’s largest open-air project so far.

The artist’s works are on display in famous museums and galleries worldwide and are also part of permanent museum collections including:

new GRAVITY

Tony Matelli

Tony Matelli (USA, 1971) – one of the most prominent and most promising American artists whose works reflect the subtle and ever-elusive combination of concept, contemporary technology, as well as the demanding attitude to technique and art in the best sense of the word. Once an assistant to Jeff Koons, Tony Matelli looks at the experience he has gained from a new angle deeply feeling the burning issues of the day while at the same time preserving a serious attitude towards the quality of his work and demonstrating scrupulous attention to detail. Matelli’s work reaches beyond the boundaries of political correctness and the social conduct code. Every of his objects incorporates a provocation, a protest against playing by the commonly accepted rules, and aggression as an integral part of the surrounding world. He focuses on loneliness, desolation, degradation, defenselessness and, at the same time, resilience and resistance to unfortunate circumstances. While demonstrating an acute personal response to basic emotions, Tony Matelli is ironic about himself and smiles at the absurdity of what’s happening around him. He is set on questioning everything what many thought unshakable; on striking the right visual forms to impart subtle philosophical concepts. The Moscow exhibition showcases the artist’s objects of the past five years and the brand new works which will see light for the first time. The laws of physics are no longer evident in Matelli’s works. Challenging the laws of gravitation, he utterly readjusts the optics thereby giving us a new picture of the objects and phenomena that surround us and transforming the existent reality into a new one. Tony Matelli’s works have been on display in a large number of prestigious museums and galleries all over the world and are part of permanent collections in a variety of world famous museums:

JOHN MILLER

John Miller (USA, 1954) – an artist, musician, university professor, the author of critical essays on art. His works are part of prestigious world collections such as:

Museum Ludwig, Cologne Cabinet des Estampes, Geneva Carnegie Mellon Museum, Pittsburg, PA Deutsche Genossenschaftsbank, Frankfurt Frac Limousin, Limousin, France Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles

Pangea Consortium, Zurich Progressive Corporation, Cleveland, OH Queensboro Community College Gallery Collection, New York Rehazentrum Lubben, Berlin Whitney Museum of American Art, New York

Cindy Sherman, Christopher Wool, Mike Kelley, Pipilotti Rist, Richard Artschwager, Rosemarie Trockel, Peter Doig.

John Miller is a member of the narrow circle of American conceptual art gurus, including Mike Kelley, Tony Oursler and Jim Shaw. His works have been on display in cities across the USA and in the rest of the world since the mid 1980s. Miller’s works embrace a wide variety of genres. In addition to paintings and sculptures, the artist excels in photography and video, has been monitoring a large number of projects and writes art reviews. The gem of the exhibition is the so-called «gold» series – reliefs, sculptures, installations. On display are also the artist’s recent works on which he has been working since spring 2013. These include wall reliefs which imitate passers-by and transform the chamber exhibition space into a lively street. In 2011 John Miller was awarded the The Wolfgang Hahn Prize (Museum Ludwig, Cologne). The former laureates of this prestigious award include Cindy Sherman, Christopher Wool, Mike Kelley, Pipilotti Rist, Richard Artschwager, Rosemarie Trockel, Peter Doig, etc.
