WOW!! I hate to start out by saying wow, but WOW! We are into July already. It seems like I was just sitting down to write the first issue of the year and now 7 months has flown by. I think Kenny Chesney said it best, “Don’t Blink”. The time seems to fly by faster as my age grows. It sure seems like it wasn’t that long ago that I was riding my first bike, a 63 Triumph, and more excited than I had ever been about anything in my life. I remember thinking around 1967 or 1968 that, “If I can just save enough money to buy a new Triumph Bonneville I would be the happiest guy in the world.” Well it did happen but not that year, it took me a couple more years to save up. I have been riding since about 1963 and have always had the love for the way riding makes me feel. I can release all my frustrations and forget all about life’s little problems when I hit the seat and fire up the engine. I have to believe that most of you that have been riding know actually what I mean. It’s truly a rush to feel the wind in your face and the noise of the road, the roar of the pipes (gotta have loud pipes) and the relaxation riding gives you. Whether I was going on a trip or going nowhere just burning gas, the excitement of the ride is always there. I still feel as excited today as I did back in the 60’s about riding, going to events and enjoying good times with other bikers. Whether I’m riding with old friends or making new friends it’s always a great time to ride. Don’t get me wrong I love cars and have collected them over the years but the feeling I get on my motorcycle is a feeling that you can only get riding two wheels. Now a days you can get there on 3 wheels too. My wife does the trike thing. Bikers are the most giving group of people I have ever met. I enjoy sharing stories and riding the roads with all of you. We have been fortunate to have been involved in so many great events and rides already this year and there are so many more yet to come. This leads me to our 6th Annual Grease, Gears and Grooves event that will take place July 19 on Gravois Road just west of Lindbergh at the old Sunset Ford Car Lot. I promise you this is an event that you will not want to miss. We will have the largest gathering of great vendors that GGG or any other event has ever had in St Louis. The bike and car show will be awesome and the Pinup model contest will be worth watching. GGG will boast good food, cold beer, ice cream, funnel cakes and other great eats. The day will be home to many great companies showing and selling their goods. We are going to have a lot of fun things to see and fun things to do. We are putting this event together to help raise money for Bikers Against Child Abuse and the Children’s Miracle Network. So we need your help to make this event a HUGE success. Bring your friends and family out to have a great day and help give these charities the opportunity to help the kids in need from our area. I hope to see all of you at the GGG event supporting these great causes. The gates open at 10am and we will go until 6pm. So bring the whole family out to eat and drink and check out the many items available for sale. Well, I can’t believe it’s July already. Seven months into the year. Time flies when you are having fun. June was a crazy month with multiple events happening every weekend. I was gone so much, my poor little Dachshund almost forgot who I was. But it surely didn’t take her long to know her Mommy was home. All y’all animal lovers knows what I’m talking about, right? OK, “HELMET”. Last month I put on the table for discussion, Helmet. I wanted a womens perspective on this subject. I mentioned that I’m not a big fan of helmets and every time I have an opportunity not to wear one, I don’t. And when I do wear one, it’s a novelty helmet; a brain bucket. This type of helmet may protect to a point, but not as well as the DOT helmets. I compared wearing a helmet to wearing a seatbelt. I wear my seatbelt every time I get into the car whether I’m driving or a passenger. Not because its the law, but because I feel more secure. Every newer car is manufactured with multiple airbags for protection in case of an accident. You are surrounded by metal and frame work to hopefully protect you. We all want to make sure that we feel safe and secure in our vehicles. I’m sure that are many of you that don’t even like wearing seat belts. I had one of my readers email me saying that she always wears her seat belt but doesn’t like it because they are to restricting and they add to her blind spot when she is trying to turn or change lanes. She also said that she hates wearing helmets as well. But The controversy is this; helmet, as of right now, in the state of Missouri, are the law. Now, our Illinois readers have a different perspective. Illinois does not have a helmet law, as most of the states that surround Missouri. So why are some state so relaxed about having a protective device on your head while you roar down the road on a motorcycle at 60, 70 or 80 miles a hour with no other protection around you? And so adamant about a device that will strap you into a vehicle that has upto 12 or more airbags and a metal frame that surrounds you all for your protection? I had another reader email saying that she is for both; the helmet law and the seat belt law. She rides her own motorcycle and she witness a motorcyclist go down. This person was not wearing a helmet. He sustain severe head injuries. This freaked her out and from that moment on, she vowed to al-

ways wear a DOT helmet every time she rides. She also wears her seatbelt. She was in a car accident and that seatbelt saved her life. There was a malfunction with her airbags and it did not deploy. If it weren’t for the seatbelt, she would have gone through the windshield. I was talking to my friend, Daisy, the other day about this subject. She wears a novelty helmet when she’s on a motorcycle with her husband. Her reaction was pretty blunt. (I love that about her.) “I’d rather be dead, than brain dead. If I’m going to go, then let me go completely. It’s should be my choice. Everyone should have the freedom of choice on whether or not to wear a helmet.” She said she wore a DOT helmet once and it kept cutting into her shoulders and was very uncomfortable. She didn’t like that at all. These devices are a crazy thing. Some state have a helmet law with conditions. for instance; if you are a permit rider and or under the age of 21 you have to were a helmet. In other state, there is just the age restriction. Some states you have to be at least 18 years old and other, you have to be at least 21 years old. And as I mentioned before almost every state has the sealbelt law. “Click it or Ticket it”. Whether you decide to wear a helmet or not, always ride safe, be aware of your surrounding and always remember, you will see the other guy way before they will see you. Next months topic is”Keeping fit”. When I am riding, I found it very benefical to staying physically fit. Everthing from leg strength, to core strength, to back, arm and should strength. I get up every morning a do about 40 minutes on my Yowza Ellipical and then go into my strength training routine. Y’all know I ride a trike and to make turns I have to use my core, back, arm and should strength. It also takes leg strength to hold up a bike. The Motorcycle Friendly Mayor

or the last few years the Grease, Gears & Grooves event was held in Sunset Hills at the former Ford car lot on Gravois just West of Lindbergh. When we decided to use the same venue this year for our big event, we had no idea the Sunset Hills newly elected Mayor, Mr. Mark Furrer, was such a bike and car enthusiast. Bob and I were at the Kick It Vintage event in Maplewood and Bob recognized this man across the parking lot. He said, “I think that is the Mayor of Sunset Hills.” We walked up and introduced ourselves and began to chat with him. As we talked, I came up with an idea to do an interview about him. He loved the idea, so we set it up. Bob and I went to the Sunset Hills City Hall to meet Mayor Furrer. The weather allowed the mayor to ride his Harley Davidson Heritage Classic to work that day, giving us an opportunity to get a few pictures. We also didn’t realize so many other Sunset Hills employees are motorcycle riders. Scott Reed, who is a City Inspector, rides a custom Roadking. There is an office administrator, Trish Moore that rides a Honda Trike. It’s always good to know there are so many of us out there. Once we were ready we all headed back to the boardroom to start the interview. Mayor Furrer has cars and motorcycles in his blood. As long as he can remember he has been extremely fascinated by cars and bikes. Starting at a very early age, he remembers going into the corner five and dime and picking up car and hot rod magazines. He would subscribe to the magazines and dream about owning his own cool car one day. This fascination was not just how they looked, it was how they functioned. He was very interested in the mechanics of it all. When he was around six or seven, he started buying model car kits. Mark would assemble and paint them and enter them into contests. He began winning trophy after trophy fueling the fire of his fascination. By the time he was 16 years old in 1970; he bought a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle. He proceeded to disassemble the car selling off most of the parts. He took what was left, which was the frame and engine, put a fiberglass shell around it and built his very own Dune Buggy. He drove that car everywhere; even during the winter. Throughout high school, he worked as a pump jockey at a couple different gas stations. While he wasn’t pumping gas or checking the oil or tire pressure, he worked as a mechanic; changing oil, rebuilding engines, transmissions etc. He then bought a 1964 Corvette Convertible for $900. Mark took that car, rebuilt the engine, gave it a fresh coat of paint and later sold it for $2,200. As he was going to college at St Louis University, he worked at Frumar Fiberglass which specialized in Corvette repairs. His job was to work in the body shop and as a painter. Marks fascination didn’t stop at cars. He was pretty much intrigued with anything that had a throttle; motorcycles included. His parents were against motorcycles, but that didn’t stop Mark hopping on the back of them and enjoying every minute. His first motorcycle was a Kawasaki. He’s owned several Harleys, a Honda XL and his current motorcycles are the Heritage Classic and a fully restored 66 Honda 305 Scrambler. Now you would think that with all this history of being around and working with cars and owning motorcycles, Marks profession would have been in the automotive industry; not at all. Mayor Mark Furrer is a Banker by trade. He came from a long line of bankers. His father and grandfather were both bankers. In fact, Mark’s grandfather was the Banker Dave Mungenast Sr. tried to secure a loan through so he could open up his very first Honda motorcycle dealership. And he was the banker that proceeded to turn him down. Oddly enough, Mark’s Grandfather was great friends with Dave Mungenast’s father, Andy. Mark was crushed, when he found out his grandfather denied Dave his loan, but later down the line made it up to Dave Sr. when Mark was the Banker that approved a loan to open his Acura Dealership. Even though Mark was in the middle of a successful career as a Banker, he continued going

to auctions, buying cars, fixing them up and selling them. At one point he was making more money doing that then at his career. But, none the less, he just kept it as a hobby. He currently owns a 1963 MgB, 1969 Elcamino SS 396, and a 1932 Ford Hot Rod. Other cars he has owned were a 1963 Corvette split window 36 MG TA, 1980 Porsche 930 turbo, 1980 Ferrari 308 GTS, and a 1964 Jaguar XKE. In 2010 Mark retired from his career in the banking industry which gave him more time to pursue his hobby of cars and bikes. But it wasn’t until he decided to run for Mayor of Sunset Hills, that his story got even more interesting. It wasn’t that he got elected; it was HOW he got elected. About two years ago, being unhappy with how the current mayor was handling the town and having him run unopposed which bothered Mark a bit, he told his wife that he was thinking about running for mayor. She wasn’t overly thrilled about the ideas so he left it alone. When it came time for the next election, he still wasn’t happy with how thing were being run. But, by the time he decided to do something about it, it was too late; or, so he thought. Mark was talking to his friend, neighbor and fellow Vintage bike owner; Keith Meier mentioned he could run as write in. (Here is why this is so interesting. All this happened TWO weeks before the election.) As a write in, your name isn’t even on the ballad. The voters have to understand how to proceed with voting for a write in. They cannot take any information regarding the candidate into the voting booth. “Write In’s” rarely win. He knew his chances of winning were very slim. There just wasn’t enough time to work his campaign. Mark knew this was going to be an uphill battle. But, he made a decision to hit the ground in a full on sprint. He made a call to a friend of his that was a former City of St. Louis Alderman asking for help. He really didn’t know where to begin. His friend’s first reaction was he thought Mark needed a psychiatrist. Mark said. “Maybe so, but can you help”. He’s friend gave him a name of a guy that specializes in political campaigns, tax issues, waters issues, bonds and candidates. So, Monday morning, again just “two” week before the election, Mark made the call and the gentlemen indicated that they have an eighty-six percent success rate if they had enough time to run the campaign. The best that he could do was a one-time brochure. Mark agreed and put the funds together and pushed forward. With no time to waste, Mark practically lived on the phone. He was calling every single person he knew, even people he didn’t know. His friend and neighbor, Keith, later led the campaign by running a social media blitz that engaged 5000 readers. With phone calls, Facebook, Brochures mailers, running from one end of town to another, he was determined to win. He started to gain volunteers to help him. He had yard signs made up and business cards to pass out. On top of the crazy two weeks of campaigning, half his family was on vacation, leaving him home to tend to his special needs son and his horse with an injured hoof. Needless to say his head was spinning. What amazed him the most was all the positive feedback he was receiving. This was just the thing to keep him going. The City of Sunset Hills has approximately 8000 residents 6600 of them are registered voters. In the 2012 election approximately 1200 of them voted in the mayor. Even in a general election the county expected a six to seven percent turnout. Now, 2014 was not a general election year. There was such an overwhelming response to his campaign. This election brought in nearly doubled the amount of voter than the election in 2012. Mayor Furrer won the election by 53% with more than 1,100 votes. Going from a Banker to a Mayor, Mark Furrer has never lost sight of his first love “the love of cars and motorcycles.” So, if you are riding around town and you run into Mayor Furrer, stop and say hello. everal weeks ago Bob and I were out covering an event and we heard this amazing music. We went over to the tent where the band was playing and saw a banner that said “DEE ROCK COUNTRY”. Well, the name says it all. As we sat and watched him play we were drawn in by his authenticity. He’s not your typical cover band that you may hear around town, he is an original. He still may play some of those old familiar favorite, but his original work is amazing. After his first set, we approached him with the idea of having him play our Grease, Gears & Grooves event; he was honored. I also indicated that I would love to do a story about him so our fans will become his fans. I wanted to give our readers an opportunity to get to know the man called DEE ROCK. Dee is a self-taught musician with deep country soul roots. Even though he was born in California, his families Texas roots go back to the Alamo and Jim Bowie where Dee spent much time with family and loved the outdoors and country lifestyle. Texas was always home to his parents and when Dee was growing up he remembers always being around music. He recalled sitting around with his family while they pick at their guitars and played old familiar tunes. On Sunday’s after the football game, his father would pour a glass of whiskey and along with Dee would sit and listen to music. But one of his father’s requests was; “You can’t listen to music with your eyes open, you need to close your eyes in order to really get it.” They would listen to music from BB King, Allman Brothers, Buddy Guy, Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash. He also would pulled out some of his favorite R & B artist like Otis Redding and Sam Cook. As a child, Dee would play around with the guitar, but it wasn’t until he was in high school that he began to take guitar playing more serious. It was in California that Dee and his high school friend started to form music groups playing R&B to Southern Rock. He said his friend never knew what kind of mood he was in, musically, whether Dee was going to listen to Waylon Jennings or P Funk. After high school Dee’s music career began to take off. Not only did he find success on stage, he was becoming successful off stage as a song writer and producer. He’s played alongside recording artist like Lenny Kravitz and Sheila E. Opened for Chuck Berry and Jackyl. He’s written and produced song for recording companies including Virgin, EMI, and Capital Records and writing the sound track for the Warner Bros. film “Divas.” His guitar playing and song writing can be heard on the hit show TLC “American Chopper” as well as the Discovery Channel biker show “Southern Steel/Milwaukee Iron”. He’s even composed music for the P90X infomercials. In December 2008, Dee got the call that would change his life. A record producer, Brandon Shane, who heard about Dee’s music through a DJ Jody Dickey, called Dee and said that he’s heard his music and proceeded to ask why he was in LA and not Nashville. With your old southern rock sound, Nashville is where you need to be. The following year and after several trips, Dee made the move to Tennessee. Sadly, he never had the chance to work with Brandon because he passed away before Dee had the opportunity. After Brandon’s passing, Dee felt as if the road turned into a dead end. Next thing he knew, Dee received another call from a good friend of Brandon’s; Tom Paden. Tom has produced and written songs for artist such as Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, George Straight, Tammy Wynette and Kenny Rogers to name a few. Tom told him and he wanted to do what Brandon wasn’t able to. He wanted to honor Brandon’s memory by helping produce Dee’s music. Together they produced his album “The Road Ain’t Long.” From there, Dee has collaborated with Montgomery Gentry’s band leader and keyboardist Eddie Kilgallon. They have written songs like “Callin’ All Cowgirls” and “This is God’s Country; and God Ain’t Leavin’”. Dee’s “The Colors I Fly Tour,” was well received as he toured the southern state spreading his wings and sending out his heartfelt patriotic message. His song “The colors I Fly” and the video have been embraced by Patriots, Veterans and everyone that believes in God, Family and Country as he does. The one thing that Dee stated to me was that he was extremely grateful to the amazing people of St. Louis, Grafton and Alton areas. They have been so warm and welcoming. f you didn’t read the title of this article in your best Michael McDonald voice you are missing out! Welcome back readers and riders! It’s that time of year again! No not Christmas or my birthday, but it feels just the same to me. We are right around the corner from the 2015 Harley-Davidson new model release! We saw some major changes last year and in my opinion it was all for the better. This year we will see an old familiar friend return to the lineup as well as some new kids on the block. That’s right as everyone turns their noses up and cringes, I myself am intrigued. That’s right, the intro of the new liquid cooled 500cc and 750cc Street models. Let’s not all forget that Harley already produces the Revolution liquid cooled 1250cc V-Rod motorcycle. As much as some of us would like to forget the V-Rod, the truth is I ran one at the drag strip and it was a fun bike. Mainly in a straight line but still a fun fast bike all the same. Harley showed the world last year they were starting to comply with EPA bullshit with the release of the Twin Cooled Twin Cam 103 hi output motor. Although the new system is beneficial to heat reduction as well as holding power in hotter temps it’s not what I believe the Motor Company or what every consumer really wants. With a greater need for maximum power and demands from the EPA it seems that one day they will all be liquid cooled radiated motors. So enter the new fully liquid cooled 500cc and 750cc Streets! The demand for this type of bike exceeds the EPA nonsense and that’s why I believe these bikes could be a major contributor to the industry. With that being said there is some controversy in regards to the new release. Some consider Harley the holy grail of the industry. Most folks don’t start on a Harley. I sure as hell didn’t! This bike now gives the consumer that choice. An affordable Harley referred to as an “urban option” with a price tag ranging from $6700 to $7500 MSRP. That’s sport bike money! Think of all the younger generations that could share that over all pride with us? Some of you will cringe at the thought of skinny jeaned kids riding Harley’s; it’s just not the “Harley way”. And while on the subject of the “Harley way” the other issue that has folks in a tizzy is the fact that Harley has again dedicated itself to the global market and will be producing the Streets in India but only for the Euro market. The US models will be built here in the great state of Missouri across the plains there in KC plant. As Americans we should be proud other country’s look to mimic us! Think about it, the Cubans just held

“Streets” their first national rally a couple years ago! A communist country full of Harleys no older than 1959 that are still on the road today! Be flattered be proud! Other people in other countries want to be like us and share that pride. So what’s all the fuss? The platform itself looks promising though I have yet to ride one. The best way to describe the new Streets is that they are in fact the little brother to the V-Rod. It’s a smaller platform called the Revolution X that’s a liquid cooled single overhead cam V-Twin with four valves per cylinder in a unified case sharing fluid with the transmission. It’s nothing ground breaking, overhead cam set ups have been around for a while now and have proven to be tried and true. Things like valve lash adjustment services will be needed so take that into consideration when shopping. While most of the servicing seems straight forward and simple some techs in the industry will have to beef up the metric arsenal in their toolbox. Harley has shifted some of its thinking these days and they are for sure looking towards the future of our industry. The 750cc Streets were featured in both the Winter X-Games and Summer X-Games sponsored by ESPN to show case the ice racing class and flat track possibilities as well as involve and excite the next generation of enthusiasts. Me being the adrenaline junky I am I love the X-games and was very impressed to see Harley’s involvement. The Harley-Davidson “Skunkwerks” aka The Wiley G. Design studio, themselves built three custom models to entice the young hip grease monkey. Check it out on youtube.com, Street Custom Concepts, the bikes look damn good and appear to have the potential for performance. Make sure to welcome the new comers of both metal and flesh. Tell that fresh faced kid checking out the new Streets about your bike and the experiences you have shared with you friends. You might just help create a Harley rider for life. The very first and last brand he or she may every buy. The Harley-Davidson motorcycles, liquid cooled or not, it’s the lifestyle we share. I guess for now its hurry up and wait? The future is on its way to a show room near you very soon! While we are still waiting on those flying cars and jet packs we were promised by Popular Mechanics so many years ago, the new liquid cooled 500cc and 750cc Harley-Davidson Streets will have to do for now. Thunder Valley Bike Rally The weather was perfect on this early Saturday afternoon of June 14, 2014. Temperatures in the low to mid 80’s, a steady breeze blowing with occasional gusts that came at the right time when you were feeling just a little hot. The grass was soft under your feet, the smell of food being grilled hung in the air. There were sounds of friends laughing and visiting, and all of this punctuated by regular intervals of the crackle of straight pipes from a vast array and variety of motorcycles entering the venue. The first, annual Thunder Valley Bike Rally was in full swing as wave after wave of biker groups drove down the short road from the Missouri highway 96 to the registration station and then thundered their way to find a parking place. There were those on portable chase lounges just soaking up the atmosphere, which included the music of a local band on the stage at one end of the venue. Others were enjoying a hot dog while setting in the abundant shade from the massive trees populating Kellogg Lake Park in Carthage, Missouri. Many were milling about through the venders selling their wares. You could not miss the booming sound of the Radio station, Rock 107.1 mobile studio truck broadcasting on location. Then there was the noticeable, but non intrusive, presence securing personnel in bright yellow “Security” shirts who were there to aide and assist. This writer was impressed by those planning on staying overnight. Their quarters ranged from motor homes of the venders who follow such events to the pop-up tents for those who planned on making a weekend of it. Of course, there were the rows of conveniently located Johnny-on-the spot. More than a year of planning and preparation was becoming a reality. Slowly, the anxieties of rally organizer, Chris Howell, were melting away. A little more than a week earlier, Kellogg Lake Park was under water from flooding caused by weeks of rain. Then there was the threat of more rain as late as Thursday before the event opened on the evening of Friday, June 13. After taking all this activity we were able to corral Chris Howell long enough to ask some questions. The first questions was, “Chris, why did your organize this event?” Chris explained, “About 15 years ago, in another line of business, I got to ride a Harley to Sturgis. Then, about three years ago, when I got my own bike, the first question I

asked was, ‘Is there a rally around? I want to go to a rally.’” Not finding any local rallies, Chris decided to start one. For the past year he has been working with the City of Carthage, Missouri, local business leaders and bikers associations to make the Thunder Valley Bike Rally a reality. “I have learned so much and know what to do,” Chris said. “Next year’s rally (which is already being planned) will be a lot easier.” Chris said he is “building” a rally “down at Cave and Lannigan” in August” and is thinking about a Fall rally this year. Chris was also motivated by wanting to do the “right thing. I want to donate to charities. Bikers donate more to charities than any other organization.” When asked what charities the rally would be supporting, Chris responded this year we want to donate to Combat Veterans and that the Carthage Police Department has a Christmas party for under privileged children, which he wants to contribute to. There will always be a contribution to Children’s charities. Chris said there was some resistance from the Carthage leadership, but he and other community business leaders convinced them to give the rally a chance. The closeness he has experience from the biker community allowed him to assure the city leaders that people will come to the rally just to hang out together, enjoy each other company and get to hear some good music from bands like Big Skillet, Borderline Band and their head liner, Texas Hippie Coalition (which play at 10 PM on Saturday). Your Full Throttle Magazine reporters were unable to stay for the whole event, but talked with Chris on the following Monday. He reported there were about 1700 who attended the Texas Hippie concert on Saturday evening with nearly 2000 registered for the event. He said the crowd had a great time, got involved with the concert and when it was over, slowly made their way to their tents and campers and went to sleep. The next morning, there was a rain storm that went through about 5 AM. Chris, himself, woke up at 8 AM and checked on the status of Kellogg Lake Park. He reported that the majority of the campers were gone and there was very little clean up that had to be done. He was a bit surprised and very pleased When asked about his plans for the future, Chris said, of course, next year. He is, also, planning on continuing building rallies. His goal is to build rallies along old Highway 66 (The Mother Road). Be on the lookout for Full Throttle Magazine to announce of more upcoming Rallies built by Chris Howell.

Car companies sit and brainstorm to come up with catchy, cool

names for each car model. Some of which will stand the test of time like the Mustang, Corvette, Regal, Cadillac and Camaro to name a few. Others like the Edsel, Viking and Geo weren’t able to sustain. We have seen American companies use birds, fish, cats, horses and even just numbers to name their models. Chevrolet was no exception. In 1958 the Chevrolet Company was introducing their newest automobile to the top of their lineup of Chevy models which was to be one above the Bel Air from prior years. When it came time to give it a name, they came up with “Antelope.” After further contemplation, Chevrolet felt the US wasn’t quite ready to say “Yeah, I drive a Chevy Antelope.” So they scratched that idea and the “Chevrolet IMPALA” was born. One thing that set this car apart from all the others was the POWER that was available in the “SS” package. If you are anything like Lance and Evie Waitz, power is what they were after. Several years ago I met Lance and Evelyn purely by fate. I go to a lot of car shows and hand out my business cards to a limited amount of people. I remember a show that I met a really nice couple who was interested in painting their car in the future so I gave them my card. A few years went by & I received a call from Lance, we talked for a while and he told me how a friend of his gave him my card. That friend was the couple from the car show I had met years prior. See I knew they were good people when I met them. As it turns out Lance & Evie was on a quest to find a good body shop and painter for their ’67 Impala SS and were not having any luck at all. They went to a lot of shops, but no one really seemed interested in helping them or they didn’t seem like they could do a good job. He even went to a local shop that told him he wouldn’t want to spend the amount of money it would take to paint the car. Lance told them the amount of money he had saved up; they looked at him and laughed and told him the car wasn’t worth that kind of money. So to “HELP” Lance they offered to buy it. Now what kind

of person would want to buy a junky old Impala that is not worth spending money on?? Once Lance stopped laughing it was time for him to take his car and plans serious, so he brought the car to me “SHOWCAR SPECIALIST”. We discussed his ideas and the total revamping was under way. We stripped the car down to almost nothing; down so far that I remember one evening when Lance stopped by to see how things were going; you could tell in his eyes something was wrong, terribly wrong. I stopped working and asked what it was and he refused to tell me. I put down my tools and said I won’t do any more work unit you tell me what’s up. He said I drove my car into your shop and now look at it. I really don’t know you and I’m afraid you may not be able to put it back together like all of the other body shops that I have heard of. I used my “Call a former customer card”. I called Kevin McGowan, a life time friend and customer who also felt the same as Lance in the beginning. I gave the phone to Lance & Kevin told him if anyone could do it Roger Ferris could, and not to worry. Several months and a lot of hard work went by but the end results were great. I did all of the suspension upgrades, bodywork, painting and the Flame job before putting the car back together. All of Lance’s fears went away. With all of the good looks out of the way it is time to think about the FULL THROTTLE possibilities, Lance had the original 396 cubic inch engine rebuilt and bored 30 over. For the throttle response he went with 2-Edelbrock 600cfm carbs, a Mallory Uni-Lite distributor, Hooker Super Comp Headers with 2” primary tubes and 4” exhaust. But the fun was added with the Muncie Close Ratio trans with Hurst Competition Plus Short throw shifter pushing the power to the factory Posi-traction 4:11 gears. Lance and his family, Evie, Richard, Rook and Connor really love to show off the car and push the GO Pedal FULL THROTTLE as often as possible except for 1 month each year but that is a whole different story.

in the Bronx and clearing his throat asked, “Um, err, which of you gentlemen owns the Doberman tied outside to the parking meter?” A giant of a man, wearing biker leathers, his body hair growing out through the seams, turned slowly on his stool, looked down at the quivering little man and said, “It’s my dog. Why?” “Well,” squeaked the little man, obviously very nervous, “I believe my dog just killed it, sir.” “What?” roared the big man in disbelief. “What in the hell kind of dog do you have?” “Sir,” answered the little man, “it’s a little four week old female puppy.” “Bull!” roared the biker, “how could your puppy kill my Doberman?” “It appears that your dog choked on her, sir”

She quickly snatched the phone out of my hand and cursed me hysterically, screaming that I should never touch her personal property, then accused me of trying to spy on her. Anyway, I have never broached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn’t want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her. I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson Lowrider next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the street around the corner when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my motorcycle that I noticed a small amount of motor oil leaking through the gasket between the rear head and rocker arm cover. So...is this something I can easily repair myself or do you think I should take it back to the dealer?
