Lillies in bloom

Spring into...

The Lily got its beginning here from Louis Houghton, a World War 1 soldier, for the popularity of the Bermuda lily better known as the Easter lily. In 1919 he brought a suitcase full of hybrid lily bulbs to the southern coast of Oregon and gave them to his family and friends to plant. The climate there proved to be ideal for growing the lily and by 1945, over one thousand west coast growers were producing bulbs for commercial use. Its beautiful trumpet-shaped blossoms symbolizes purity, hope and life, the spiritual essence of Easter and all the promises of spring. Brides who want to look elegant, classy and feminine on their big wedding day might want to take a look at these stunning unique spring calla lily wedding flower arrangements and bouquets. Calla lily is one of the most popular types of flowers chosen by both modern and classy brides today for their wedding bouquet and for the décor arrangements also. And who can blame them? This lovely and charming type of flower can suit the simplest or the most extravagant type of wedding!

!

quick tip

eme Carry the th et to from bouqu cake topper!

History, mythology and art are filled with stories and images that speak of the beauty and majesty of the elegant white flowers. In ancient Eygpt lilies were associated with femininity. In Greek and Roman times brides wore a crown of them expressing hope for a pure life and lots of children. They were also used as a secret sign between lovers to express emotions without saying the words. The sweetness of the scent were used in sachets and dresser drawers to freshen the smell of clothing. Using lilies’ in your bouquet couldn’t be more elegant, they certainly do catch the eye of the beholder. Another unique item that we have spoken about in a prior issue is to use them in a chandelier suspended upside-down for that WOW appeal! And, by the way, did you know that lilies do come in different shades other than white so you can use them to coordinate into your color theme? Whatever, or however you incorporate lilies into your wedding day theme, they are sure to give your event that lavish look you are going for. The past is filled with references of the elegant white trumpet looking bloom. One of the most famous Biblical references is in the Sermon on the Mount, when Christ said, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin and yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” A mark of purity and grace throughout the ages, the regal white lily is the symbol of the greater meaning of Easter. Gracing millions of homes and churches, the flowers embody joy, hope and life. Whether they are given as a gift or the centerpiece on your table for dinner, the lily serves as a beautiful reminder Easter is a time for rejoicing and celebrating.

all that glitters...

Summer Trends...

The shine and sparkle factor is also going to be way up in 2015 and what bride doesn’t love sparkle? For the brides that want their bridesmaids to carry those pale blooms, we will see sparkly gowns and some will be in head to toe glitter. Since not everyone looks amazing in sequin everything, brides will be able to put their maids into chiffon with touches of glitter anywhere from the shoes, to a belt to yes, even headpieces. It seems like all that glitters is among the top wedding trends for this year! So it’s high time to bring out the sparkly (as if we ever put it away), especially for those who are about to get married this Summer! We collected for you lots of different ways and ideas how to use the glitter trend wisely, and not overdo it. For example, you can experiment with your dress by adding some sequins and rhinestones to the top of it, decorate your nails or use glitter in table settings décor. We girls love everything sparkling, so give vent to your feelings and shine!

1

Sparkle treats All of your special day can be complimented with that touch of sparkle and bling. Have your decorator add the details to all of your favors and sweet treats.

3

2

Fancy footwear

Bling dress Incorporating some sparkle into your dress makes a dramatic statement. It can be small accessories such as a belt or brooch or the entire dress. This stunner from Mark Zunnino is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Don’t forget to carry the sparkle to your wedding shoes. It does not matter if you are wearing high heels or flats, the sparkle is sure to make a statement.

4

Decorate yourself

The trend for glitter in makeup and nail art is perfect for your wedding day. Eye shadow and nail polish are just two examples of how to make yourself sparkle. You can add some glitter to a barrette to adorn your hair.

5

Touches of sparkle This glamorous trend can even extend to your wedding cake. Sugar crystals adorn your treats and make them shine like diamonds! Opt for a sugar crystal frosting for a gleaming cake, or just add a few touches for a more subtle shine. You can even dye sugar crystals to match the theme of your special day.

The bridal collection, named “A Story of Romance”, was inspired by “Salut d‘Amour (Love’s greeting)” and the poem “The Wind at Dawn”, where the designer infused elements of romanticism into its design, showcasing a collection full of love, and yet preserving the brand’s soul spirit, timeless elegance. The fashion show began with its inspiring song, “Salut d‘Amour (Love’s greeting)” by a violinist. The guests were then impressed by its flawless design incorporating different stunning features, such as bateau neckline, basque front with natural waist gathering, symmetrical detailing, voluminous sleeves and adorned hemline with the application of romantic lace. ART DECO WEDDINGS WHAT IS ART DECO?

The term ‘Art Deco’ is taken from the name of the 1925 Paris exhibition titled Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. The most popular and respected French artists of the day showcased their work at this exhibition. Jewelry makers, graphic artists, painters, architects, fashion designers and all other manner of craftsmen and women displayed their pieces at the exhibition. All of the works had a commonality - they were not only functional, but also very beautiful (i.e. decorative). The term came up again in an article by the architect, Le Corbusier, titled ‘1925: Arts Déco’ and in 1966 at the retrospective exhibition titled Les années ‘25: Art Deco/ Bauhaus/Stijl/Esprit Nouveau. But it wasn’t until Bevis Hiller published his book, Art Deco of the 20s and 30s in 1968 that the term was used to truly define that style movement. In essence, Art Deco is a modern interpretation of the art movement that preceded it, Art Nouveau. So it may be helpful to structure the Art Deco definition in contrast to Art Nouveau.

The great thing about art deco is that you can use any colors you’d like, although muted colors work really well. Consider Red, Gold and Black for colors however, any wedding color you choose could be integrated into an art deco wedding. One popular way of decorating art decostyle is to use feathers in your centerpieces, favors and hair. To tie in the theme, peacock feathers can be added to chair backs and even bouquets. Printed table linens featuring clean lines and a combination of pale colors, and styles would work very well for this type of wedding. For table settings, consider using Gold Chargers accented with Red glasses for that added contrast. If you can combine square and circular dishes – even better!

14 Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

HOW CAN I INCORPORATE ART DECO INTO MY WEDDING?

STYLE

Consider wearing a beautiful vintage wedding dress and having your bridesmaids wear vintage-style gowns. If you’d rather not actually purchase a vintage dress, many designers are creating dresses which look antiquated. Elaborate headpieces or beautiful vintage hair clips are a great idea. Black and white are perfect colors for art deco, so consider using this color palette for the wedding party’s attire. For the Guys consider a white suit with pastel shirt and tie. Tie it all together with a cane. Favors for an art deco wedding can be really fun. For a great memento, consider having black and white pictures taken of you and your soon-to-be spouse in vintage clothing. Order small prints and place them in silver frames with the wedding date engraved. Not only will this add to the charm of the wedding, but guests will cherish this memento long after the wedding. Favor boxes with paisley prints, black and white checks or modern art deco design are also a great idea. An art deco inspired wedding is a unique and beautiful way of celebrating your special day in a non-traditional fashion. With limitless options for color and detail, this is sure to be a fun wedding to plan and even more fun to attend!

A wine Bouquet

DIYstyle

A nice bottle of wine is always a perfect gift for a host or hostess. We have all seen the velvet wine bags sold in stores these days - they’re nice, but they lack individuality. Even worse are the plastic or foil bags that your liquor store will offer. Don’t do it! A few years ago, I created a wine bouquet that can be wrapped around any bottle of wine, which I use when bringing wine as a gift. It takes a little time, but people do stop and notice this charming way of presenting a bottle of wine, and your host or hostess will feel especially appreciated. Let’s start with the basics. You’re going to need a bottle of wine. How should you go about selecting a wine? If you know what your host or hostess prefers that’s great. If you don’t, I firmly believe in asking the experts. While I am a wine aficionado, I am by no means an authority! Try to find out what your host or hostess will be serving and tell the wine merchant. What you need for this project: • A bottle of wine • Raffia• Garden twine • Moss (regular or Spanish moss, available at any garden center or craft shop) • Evergreen clippings - from your yard or garden center • Decorative ribbon 1 ½ inches wide Steps to a wine bottle bouquet: The secret to making a killer wine bouquet is to add the different elements one at a time. This allows you to “build” the bouquet off the wine bottle easily, and makes sure that it is secure. 1. Take the bottle and place it on its side, label facing up. A sMARt tip: to keep the bottle from rolling, place it between two large books. 2. Take the garden twine and tie a knot tightly at the top of the neck of the bottle, just under the rim, with the knot in the front. The front is the side with the label. We will build the bouquet from here. 3. Gather together a small bouquet of evergreen clippings in a variety of textures and colors. Place the bouquet on top of the neck of the bottle. The stems of the bouquet should be on top of the knot and extend down the neck of the bottle about three inches. We will trim them later. Attach the bouquet by tying the garden twine over the tops of the stems with a knot to secure the bouquet to the bottle. 4. Once you have secured the bouquet, crisscross the two ends of the twine around the back of the bottle neck and then back around to the front again. (Think of a ballerina lacing her shoes up her leg.) When at the front of the bottle again—you should be at the base of the neck—tie another knot in the front to secure the ends of the stems. Now trim the stems that fall below this knot. 5. Place a bit of decorative moss, a little smaller than the size of your palm—over this knot, and tie the twine around it to secure it. I prefer to use Spanish moss as it has a whimsical, organic look. 6. You can now add seasonal greenery, such as holly, small flowers, a pinecone, or brightly colored autumn leaves. A small bouquet such as this is often referred as a nosegay. This is a great opportunity to recycle the flowers from a wilting bouquet that still have some spunk left in them as the wine bouquet is designed to last for a day or so, depending upon your choice of flowers. Simply lay them on the moss and tie another knot with the garden twine. Tie a small knot at the end of the twine and trim off the excess. 7. Now for the ribbon. Cut a piece of decorative 1 ½ inch ribbon about 16 to 20 inches long. This will serve to hide the stems and secure the whole bouquet to the bottle. Wrap it over the seasonal greenery and tie a bow about 4-5 inches wide leaving 3 to 4 inches for the ends. Trim the ends. I prefer pinking shears.

Selfies….

How to do them right!

Everyone is doing it, but, how do we do it well? We have gathered some tips to help you make the most of your Selfies so let’s begin: The best way to start with a gorgeous look is to find out what beauty mistakes are messing us up. There’s no denying that filters can do wonders, but there’s only so much they can do. Priming: If you aren’t doing it, then you really are doing a disservice to yourself. In order to keep your skin looking flawless you should always use a moisturizer or primer prior to applying your makeup. Lining Your Waterline: A definite way to make eyes look smaller because it visually closes eyes in is to line them with black liner. Lining them with a softer color will open them up and even make them appear to be larger and look more awake! Lip Balm: If you’re wearing lipstick in your selfie you absolutely need to apply a balm pre-color to prep your lips for a smooth application. You don’t want the camera to pick up any cakey or cracked look of matte lipstick on dry, flaky lips. Placing lip balm on will prevent that from happening. Under Eye Concealer: An instant way to open and look more awake is by using coverup under your eyes. It will give your face an instant lift by highlighting the cheekbones. Go one shade lighter than your skin tone to brighten without looking unnatural. Only Putting Mascara On Top Lashes: To draw attention to your eyes and make them appear more intense you need to place mascara on both your top and lower lashes. Apply two coats of black mascara to the top lashes and one coat to the bottom lashes to add volume and length. Skipping Blush and Bronzer: The one thing you don’t want in your selfie is to look washed out. By adding a blush and bronzer it will give you a healthy and soft glow to your skin. Try using a bronzer a couple of shades darker than your skin tone and a pinky-peach blush to look natural and healthy.

WHAT COULD BE BETTER?

dani. fine photography Dani Klein-Williams

than art deco Boudoir,,,

Boudoir sessions have been gaining so much attention these days it’s hard to know how to style yours so it stands out. As a groom’s gift boudoir is hard to beat, but with a little extra attention you can take your session to the next level (which will have the added benefit of making your fella totally smitten)! As a style, nothing compares to the inimitable and elegant, Art deco. Classic, timeless and highly polished, this style can be seamlessly woven into a boudoir session with stunning results. Before your session, do a little research and select ensembles that are reminiscent of the era or have a bold geometric quality. Bring in some era appropriate accessories or an antique prop to further the theme (i.e. a Great Gatsby novel, opera gloves, a flapper hat or long strand of pearls). If you chat with your photographer in advance, share with them the look you’re after. Ask your photographer to focus on symmetrical shots, those that imbue the scene with a deco quality and perhaps request they do a few striking silhouettes. Integrating an Art Deco theme or style into a Boudoir session is not only fun, but will also provide you with some fabulously chic photos!

The Origin of the Cocktail... Have you ever wondered where the name Cocktail came from or am I the only one? I was doing some research on the word and first went to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary which described it as “an iced drink of wine or distilled liquor mixed with flavoring ingredients.” Researching further I found a few other descriptions. Apparently people have been mixing drinks for quite a long time. Back in the 17th century the precursors of the cocktail drinks like the Slings, Fizzes and Juleps became popular enough to be recorded in the history book. Who, what and where it began is unknown, but it seems to be a specific drink rather than a category of mixed drinks during that time. There is a popular story that tells of a rooster’s tail that was used as a garnish for a Colonial drink. There is a story written by James Fenimore Cooper dated 1821 who named one his characters “Betty Flanagan” who supposedly invented the cocktail during the Revolution. Betty may not have been a real woman, but according to the story she was a tavern keeper, who at that time served the French soldiers a drink garnished with tail feathers from her neighbor’s rooster. This was suppose to have been happening around 1779. Another thought I’ve heard is to have been influenced by the colors of the mixed ingredients, which may resemble the color of the rooster’s tail. This would be a good tale today because of all of the colorful ingredients in our mixed drinks, but back then I don’t think that would have been so. A published story in 1936 spoke of English sailors from long before having mixed drinks in Mexico that were stirred with a Cola de Gallo (cock’s tail), a long root of a similar shape to the bird’s tail. Still another story is of an American tavern keeper who stored alcohol in a ceramic, rooster-shaped container. When his patrons wanted another drink they would tap the rooster’s tail. Whether or not any of them are truly the reason behind the cocktail is still a mystery! Some tales are funny, some believable and who knows, one of them may actually be the truth!

DIY Floral Ice Cubes How to Make Flower Ice Cubes: Step 1: Work in layers to suspend flowers in the cubes. Fill an ice tray (preferably one that makes large ice cubes so the ice lasts longer) a quarter of the way with water, add flowers facing down and freeze. Step 2: Use Distilled water that has been boiled to make ice appear clear, then cool the water. This will limit the air bubbles and impurities which can make the ice look cloudy. Step 3: Use only Edible Flowers such as: pansies, snapdragons, nasturtiums and orchids that have been grown to be eaten and not treated with chemicals.

Signature Cocktails DON'T

FORGET the Garnish

We love when couples have a signature cocktail at their wedding because it brings a little piece of their personality to the bar. And what We ADORE even more is when signature cocktails have a beautiful garnish that enhances it. You can choose garnishes that go with your wedding color or are just pretty & delicious additions to the beverage, the choice is yours. Remember, the options are endless. Step away from the ordinary and try something a little different? You can freeze whole strawberries and they will act as the perfect ice cube in drinks without watering them down. You can also skewer a blueberry, raspberry and blackberry and put it in your drink. So have Fun!

Old Flaves

New Flaves editor’s choice: old fashioned taffy... Pulling taffy was a part of our family traditions. I think our parents loved hearing us yell as we pulled hot taffy with our buttered hands until it got hard. Then we would place it on waxed paper until it hardened and cooled and then broke it into smaller pieces. I will tell you it was worth all the pain though, homemade taffy is the best!

ingredients

2 pounds sugar, 4 pounds corn syrup, 2 tablespoons butter, 3/4 cups milk, 3 drops red or peach coloring, 2 teaspoons peach flavoring for taste, Cornstarch for sprinkling on pulling table. Special equipment: 4 (15 1/2 by 10 by 1-inch) well-buttered baking pans; table or marble slab, for pulling; yardstick; waxed paper, cut into 2 by 4-inch rectangles, for wrapping and twisting.

preparation

In a saucepan, mix together the sugar, corn syrup and butter, stirring over high heat until mixture reaches 240 degrees F on a candy thermometer. Reduce heat and slowly add milk and cook until thermometer reaches 248 degrees F. Pour mixture onto the 4 buttered baking trays. When taffy is cool enough to handle, butter your hands and bring corners to the center to form into a ball. Take all 4 balls and form into 1 large ball. Place onto a table or marble slab so you and a helper can start the pulling process. Start folding and stretching your taffy ball. You should pull the taffy from your friend, fold over and over in your hands, then let your friend pull the taffy from you, repeating this process until the taffy turns light in color. Pulling the taffy adds tiny air bubbles throughout the candy, making it lighter and chewier. Place the taffy on your pulling table/slab, add the color and flavoring, and start the pulling process all over again until the liquids are well incorporated and the taffy is the color you want. Now you can lay the taffy on the table that has a small amount of cornstarch to keep it from sticking. While still soft, press into a 3/4-inch thick sheet. Take a yardstick and cut a straight line with buttered scissors or knife. Continue cutting the taffy into 1/2 to 3/4-inch wide strips. Cut strips into pieces that you want to wrap, about 2-inches. Begin wrapping the pieces in the waxed paper and twisting the ends.

Clinton Kelly is a co-host of ABC’s lifestyle series The Chew, seated alongside restaurateurs and Iron Chef America stars Mario Batali and Michael Symon, Top Chef alum Carla Hall and health and wellness enthusiast Daphne Oz.

Ingredients: 1 ball pizza dough, 1 cup mini marshmallows, 2 graham crackers (roughly crushed), 1/4 cup dark mini chocolate chips, olive oil, 1/4 cup melted butter, 1/4 cup cinnamon-sugar.

Directions: Preheat a grill over medium heat. If not using a grill, preheat oven to 425º F. Cut dough ball into 4 equal pieces. On a floured surface, roll dough into circles. On half of each dough round, place an equal amount of marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate chips. Close the dough around the filling to form a half moon. Crimp edges to close. Brush with melted butter. If using a grill or grill pan: Place calzone directly on the grill. Close grill and cook 2-3 minutes per side until insides are gooey and melted. Brush with more melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. If using oven: Place calzones on sheet pan. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden, gooey and melted.

Chef’s Tip: If bringing the calzones to a tailgate, freeze the raw calzones. Keep cool until ready to grill.

Creative & Cute

kids tables

Traditionally, children have always been included on the guest list of wedding celebrations with the entire family attending together. After all, marriage is a major factor in the circle of life, and it is important to be allowed to grow up participating in these life-changing events.

Hint #1: Ask their parents the ages of the children attending.

Young children (ages 2 3) need some help while eating so it may be better for them to stay with mom or dad, or at least have mom and dad on a table very close to them. Some grade-school children are shy and would rather stay with mom and dad than sit at a table with children they have never met before. If you have a flower girl or ring bearer, they would most likely enjoy sitting at the kid’s wedding table or with their parents and not with the adults (who can be so boring). Most children’s tables are for kids ages 4 to 12.

Hint #2: A Kids Menu is a Must Have.

Choose foods that you know they are familiar with to eat and everybody will be happier. Chicken strips with different types of sauces they can dip into or a cheese pizza. If the meal is a buffet, consider choosing a few child-friendly items to add such as mac and cheese or hot dogs. To prevent children from becoming cranky consider purchasing individual bags of crackers or lightly sweetened cookies to help children wait until the buffet line is open, or the meal can be served. You can even add a pretty ribbon to the package to dress it up a bit! The parents will think you are a genius and will be most appreciative that you have taken special notice of their child. Child-friendly food generally costs much less than your caterer’s most popular dishes!

Hint #3: Let’s talk about drinks, make sure you have lids on those cups at the kids

tables to keep the little ones dry. Resist any temptations to place crystal or glass drinking glasses on the children’s table even if it dresses down your reception theme. Request cups with lids for the children’s table and keep in mind that a wet table is worse than ordinary plastic drinking cup with lids and straws. If the venue doesn’t have them, then it’s worth the investment to purchase them yourself.

Hint #4: Having activities for children to do is of the utmost importance.

Remember to kids it can feel like an eternity until they can eat and dance on the dance floor. Children need something to do while adults are enjoying appetizers and conversation. Look for age-appropriate, small, individual games and sticker sets, crayons and paper can be a good place to begin. No need for anything messy or loud. Make sure that every child has their own activities. If you choose activities such as crayons, puzzles, and snacks for the Children’s Wedding Table, have a set for each child (labeled with their name), at their place setting. Your young guests will feel welcome and be thrilled with your thoughtful gift, they need to feel special too! Here’s some ideas to place on the kids tables: Cover the table with brown paper and give them crayons. Let them get creative! Disposable Cameras – wouldn’t it be fun to see what pictures kids come up with? Activity books - There are so many choices in the stores to choose from. Finger Puppets - are always so cute. Bubbles - what kid doesn’t love bubbles. Stickers – Again, there are lots of varieties to choose from for boys and girls.

HEARTY TONES

Marsala Weddings

Pantone has announced its’ color of the year for 2015, and its’ name is Marsala! It is a beautiful deep rich earthy tone, red kissed with a hint of blue. It is flattering to all skin tones and has hints of sophistication with its warm reddish brown look, but it is a deep dark shade. I am already getting emails from my brides saying, “Grace, my wedding is in the Spring/Summer, how am I going to incorporate this color into it, and still look trendy and in style?” My wedding is going to be on the beach and I need something more pastel, please help! My answer to you is simple: Use Marsala as your accent shade. It pairs well with so many other colors. Keep it neutral by using shades like dusty pink, nude, taupe, gray or aqua sky. Or, step it up with bright colors like yellow, green, paprika, tiger lily, tangerine tango or chili pepper. If you are going for a Deco Wedding Theme Marsala, Black and Gold make an excellent choice when grouped together. Sephora has put out a collection of makeup in the Marsala shades for you to wear. Check out their lipstick, eye shadow and blush. Use bottles of wine for your party favors to incorporate the theme even more. Adding your engagement photos on it would be a perfect touch, or place marsala colored ribbons onto bells to hand to your guests to ring after you are pronounced husband and wife.

48 Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

Wedding Accessories Small details can add a pop of color. Consider adding a stunning floral bridal sash or colorful bridal shoes to your wedding day look. A flower girl basket accented with marsala ribbon can be displayed at the ceremony’s entry, filled with tissues; or use as decor elsewhere in the ceremony or reception location.

Colors to Pair Marsala’s earth-toned color is perfect for any season! Pair with golden tones and coral for a spring garden wedding; vibrant blue-greens for a hot summer wedding; soft peaches and browns for a fall wedding; or silver and light lilac for a winter wedding.

Wedding Day Wardrobe Bride, groom - or any member of the bridal party - this gorgeous color looks amazing on just about anyone no matter the season.

!

quick tip

Try pairing Marsala and Metallics!

Flowers & Decor Marsala blends with many of nature’s colors, especially during the Fall season. Choose multiple shades of reds and burgundies, matching marsala’s warm charm. Linens and place settings add to the warmth, creating an inviting space for your guests.

Favors & Food Carry the color throughout, including in food, drinks and favors. Creating a themed wedding cocktail is the perfect way to infuse marsala into your beverages (think: cranberries!). Your wedding cake can be designed with marsala fondant or accented with ribbons on each tier. Another way to add color is by creating a candy buffet - guests will love this sweet treat, plus it adds to the decor of the venue. Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 49

Goin’ to the Chapel and we’re gonna get married... I think most of us have heard the old song “Going to the Chapel, and we’re gonna get married”. Chapel weddings are unlike church or outdoor weddings. They tend to have less amount of guests attending, and therefore are a perfect setting for the couple that wants to have a more intimate wedding. Wedding Chapels provide everything that a church or outdoor wedding provides. The officiate will help to personalize your wedding vows for you, and if you like you can add on photography, videography and special music for the ceremony. A Director will help to coordinate the bride and groom and bridal party on the day of the wedding. Wedding Chapels are fully decorated, affordable and provide the space plus the wedding professionals who will bring your dreams to life! These are experienced professionals in the wedding industry who share your vision and genuinely care that your day is a very Special one! Being wed in a chapel combines both a romantic private union and a grandiose fashion. The ceremony for your wedding is the very core of your wedding day. Making it perfect requires careful planning. The most important detail is where your ceremony will take place. Choosing the right venue is as important as choosing the right gown you will wear. What about a reception, you may be wondering? Having a chapel wedding does not mean you cannot have a reception following for your guests. A Champagne toast, wedding cake and food can also be provided. Having your wedding in a chapel is a great beginning for newlyweds without a huge cost attached to it. If you are thinking about your budget, but do not want to compromise its beauty think about a Chapel Wedding!

KELLY! CLINTON

Q

A Q A Q A Q A Q A Q

By: Grace Crompton - Managing Editor

It seems we share the same enthusiasm for writing. You earned your degree in communication and then went on to be a magazine editor and a freelance writer, and are currently a contributing editor for Woman’s Day magazine penning a monthly column called “Clinton Solves it”. With all of your other projects it must still be a good feeling to be able to write. Did you always have that passion? I found it in college. In my Junior year I took a writing course and loved it, so I began to take as many writing courses as I could. That’s when I realized writing was what I was to do. I figured I would write that great American novel, things didn’t work out that way though. What Not to Wear was such a fabulous show. I followed it for years and loved the transformation and confidence the women showed after their makeover with you and Stacy. Would you tell our readers what your favorite memories were about the show, and if there was a particular moment that was really emotional for you? I have mixed feelings about the show, it was difficult. I know it probably looked like it was a lot of fun, but we spent a week filming for every episode, and I did 350 episodes! For the most part we had to convince people that they needed a makeover, so it was a lot of pushing and pulling. I did make some wonderful friends, ones that worked on the show, and ones I meant along the way. On the first episode I wasn’t sure why I was suppose to be there, what my part was suppose to be, or how I was suppose to act. If the show was one where we were faking, I wouldn’t have done it, but seeing the positive influence it had on so many women’s lives was very fulfilling. It must be exciting to have your husband Damon being featured on the Chew. Yes, he is a psychologist and so he is very private. Having him on the show was just hilarious! The Chew just makes you want to go out and buy all the ingredients to make those delicious recipes. They look so good! Do you have a favorite recipe? I would say that some of my favorite recipes are the sausage bean stew, the mini beef wellington, and I love the cream spinach and potato casserole that’s used as a side dish for Thanksgiving. Your clothing line Kelly by Clinton Kelly was recently featured on QVC. Can you give our readers some advice for dressing their body types? I could talk about that forever. FIT is the essence of style, and you should wrap your head around that. When you are wearing something that is too tight you are going to look bigger. If you are wearing something too big you are going to look sloppy, and look big, too. If you are clueless about what will look good on you, take tons of clothes into the dressing room to find the right silhouette for you. Try lots of different styles, prints, colors, solids. Also, go for a professional bra fitting. Wearing the correct bra can do wonders for you. Your new line of dinnerware for Macy’s, Effortless Table is so refreshing, it makes me feel happy to look at it. Anyone would love to have such a gorgeous setting on their table. To have 6 different settings that don’t match is so interesting and creative! Each setting has a name, I adore Prince Charming with a frog on it, and our Brides and Grooms will love the setting called Lucky in Love incorporating the color blue. I think they would make the perfect wedding gift. Would you like to elaborate more about the collection?

KELLY! CLINTON

Q A Q A Q A Q A

The idea behind the collection is to help you be able to express yourself. I have a couple of different houses. One I decorate with the colors blue, pink and purple. My house in Miami I have decorated in a Retro style so I use lots of Pink. Every time I open my cabinet it makes me happy. That’s the same way clothes should make you feel, like you could conquer the day! Tell us about growing up in Panama City, Panama and what brought you to New York. My father was in the service and stationed at the Panama Canal. My mother decided she liked being in the states better, so when I was only six months old we left. I don’t have any memories of Panama, but I would love to go visit one day. I understand you are now the spokesman for bridal at Macy’s, that’s such an honor! They call you the “Best Man of Weddings”, love it! Do you have any advice for our brides and grooms that are beginning their new lives together? It doesn’t have to be a cookie cutter wedding. If you want it to be that is certainly your right, but if you want it to be a bit crazier that is your right also. If you want a country western theme, a luau, whatever your theme is make sure it is a Special Day! Don’t forget to Kick off your lives together with Fun and Love to make it a good beginning. Don’t worry if the bridesmaids dresses aren’t the right shade, or if you get 2 shrimps on your plate instead of 3, or if the dj missed a song he was suppose to play. Start your new lives together right, with the spirit of Love. If you were to look into a crystal ball, what does the future hold for Clinton Kelly? I would take that crystal ball and drop it on the ground! I am not sure what I will be doing, and I don’t think I even want to know. I do know though that whatever projects I do take on will need to be emotionally fulfilling and entertaining to me. I am living life on a daily basis.

In conclusion is there anything you would like to add?

Have a good time with it all. Life is too short to worry about small details.

Clinton and I spoke while he was in the airport in New York waiting to catch a flight to sunny Miami. I have heard his voice so many times before that interviewing him felt so very comfortable. My prediction in that crystal ball (before it gets dropped on the floor) is, I am sure that we will be seeing a lot more of Clinton Kelly in the future.

CLINTON’S GUIDE TO GETTING MARRIED... the rehearsal dinner You have a million things to think about so planning your rehearsal dinner outfit might not be at the top of your to-do list. It’s just some close family and friends grabbing a bite to eat and a few drinks, right? I can guarantee that everyone there will be posting pics every 5 minutes and blasting the event onto the Internet, where it will live forever. So wear something cute.

56 Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

Keeping It Casual If you’re planning a casual rehearsal and dinner, aim for a comfortable, polished look. For the rehearsal, you could pair a colorful A-line or pencil skirt with a sleeveless white button-front shirt, a cardigan and ballet flats. Then, on your way to dinner, lose the cardigan, add a sexy heel and a statement necklace. Same outfit, twice the appropriateness! For the Fellas: Your safest bet is a button-front shirt, trousers, leather shoes and a matching belt. Also appropriate: a polo shirt, chinos (maybe even colored ones!), suede loafers and a contrasting belt.

Semiformal Fabulous Donning a simple sheath is the easiest way to balance a house of worship’s dress code and the touch of glamour a semiformal dinner calls for. It works for day or night and comes in a variety of price points, fabrics, colors and patterns. Worn with a tasteful shoe and a cardigan or jacket, a sheath should prevent disapproving glances from the minister’s wife. On your way to dinner, remove the jacket, throw on a sexy strappy heel and add chandelier earrings. If a sheath isn’t your thing, pair silky dark trousers with a fitted embellished top. Finish the look with a wedge. When you’re done rehearsing, replace the wedge with a pointy-toe metallic stiletto and add a fitted silk blazer for dinner. For the Fellas: Your safest bet is a sport coat or blazer, trousers (they don’t need to match), a tie, nice shoes and a belt. Also appropriate: a suit (no tie), nice shoes and a belt. tip: You’ll look fun and modern in a patterned button-front shirt with a jacket, slacks, and a pair of oxfords with brightly colored laces. Remember: you’re not going to work!

Formal Affair If you’re hosting something dressy, you’ll probably want to do a complete change between the rehearsal and the dinner. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t think it’s in the best taste to march down the aisle of a holy venue while wearing a cocktail dress and stilettos. For the rehearsal, choose a sheath dress in a dark color with visual interest like layered ruffles, ruching or beading and pair it with a jacket in a beautiful jewel tone. For the party afterward, slip into a sophisticated and chic cocktail dress in a dark color or a rich tone from your wedding palette. Finish the look with a metallic heel and a clutch with sparkle or a textured pattern. Feeling particularly brave? Try a women’s tuxedo paired with black pumps for the rehearsal and add bold jewelry and sexy colored or metallic heels for the rehearsal dinner. Hot! For the Fellas: You don’t want to look like you’re off to the office, unless your office is a really fabulous one. Make sure your suit has been professionally tailored so it fits close to the body. A dark color, like black or charcoal gray, is your best bet for an evening event. You’ll be fine in navy, a lighter gray or even khaki for daytime or even a summer nighttime event. Choose a shirt and/or tie with a pattern so you don’t look like you’re attending Aunt Edna’s funeral.

Bonus points for: a pocket square. It’s your wedding, for cryin’ out loud. Take a chance. Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 57

FLYING HIGH KELSEY RYAN

“ We wanted our engagement session to reflect the playfulness of our relationship

62 Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

St. Petersburg, Florida Ryan and I were introduced 15 months ago at a friend’s birthday party. At that time, we discovered that we attended the same young adult ministry at church. It wasn’t until a month later that we really hit it off while hanging out with friends at the local Dubliner Irish Pub. Ryan asked me out after hours of playing basketball one Sunday shortly thereafter. The rest is history. What amazes us both is how God orchestrated bringing us together. My family moved to the Florida sun after I graduated high school. I studied nursing at the University of South Florida and now work as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Ryan left home 9 years ago. He attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He then moved to Del Rio, Texas for Pilot Training for 2 years and then Altus, Oklahoma, for 6 months where he learned to fly the KC-135 Stratotanker.

He was tasked to Tampa for his first assignment at MacDill AFB, and we met two years later. We wanted our engagement session to reflect the playfulness of our relationship and include what Ryan loves to do—fly planes. Our photographer Marc Edwards was instrumental in helping to coordinate the whole session. He located Tom, with Bi-Planes, who allowed us to borrow his plane and shoot on the runway. Marc was amazing! He went out the day prior, to work out a plan for the shoot, which included a park in St. Petersburg, then moved to the Dali Museum, and ended at Albert Whitted Airport as the sun was setting. It was a thrilling and beautiful day!

BRIDE 2015 Spring Collection

Vera Wang always dares to be different during Bridal Fashion Week, whether it’s showing an all pink or black collection or sending her models with full-length leather gloves down the aisle. This year is no exception -- in fact, it may be her boldest move yet. For the first time in 24 years, instead of doing a live runway show at this year’s bridal market, Wang opted to do a visual video presentation that went live on her website on Sunday, April 13. In a press release, Wang says her intention is to reach a wider audience than she could with a runway show. “The opportunity to create a visual and expressive experience of the clothes, as interpreted by my fashion vision, is a whole new way for me to communicate with not only brides, but women everywhere,” she said. “In this instance, bridal becomes the artistic vehicle to advance my love of fashion in general. I hope you will enjoy this new experience.” The new collection has an ethereal, cutting edge quality to it and even features a gown with a bra top (yes, really!). To get the look for the collection, Vera Wang went seriously dark and edgy. Models donned smudged brown eye shadow and dewy lips for an almost hollow, haunted look. Each look mixed her simple, airy style with an added seductive edge. Sumptuous silk charmeuse, corded lace, detailed appliques and intricate construction made a bold statement in all of the designs. Trend-setting webbed lace, strapless bra pieces and see-through lace shirtwaist gowns created dimension while signature voluminous tulle creations are rooted in timeless elegance.

The shoot took place in the India House which is located in the “stone street historic district” of NYC. We wanted to create a wedding that might have actually happened in the 1920s as this venue has retained its historic beauty. We had a variety of gorgeous gowns and headpieces that reflected the style of that era. Our wide eyed bride looked perfect in this style as did our handsome groom. Our style was carried throughout the shoot from the casting of the models to the invitations, flowers and everything in between. “My eye is always drawn to the details, whether it be the brides beautiful eyes or the flowers she holds. I love to stay creative, this shoot was a joy to put together.” - Emma Cleary, Photographer

Happy trails to you

until we meet again...

Growing up I remember listening to the lyrics of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans singing Happy Trails – What a Great theme for a Rustic wedding. Placing the lyrics on the table of your Trail Mix Bar brings all the wonderful home feelings you are bringing into your wedding day with friends and family. Here is what you would need to build your own trail mix bar. It’s a great way to allow your guests get creative and make their own snack. Add a tie tag with the saying “Happy Trails till we meet again” on it as a party favor for your guests. Glam up your trail mix station. One approach you could take would be to go fancy! Use glass apothecary jars, mini topiaries, and antique style candelabras combined with wood slabs and a craft paper banner— it works! Use quaint containers. Much of the charm of your bar will come from what you serve your treats in. Consider vintage-style tea tins and bread boxes, and place labels on sticks to help guests make their choices! Set out a tempting selection. Offer an eye-catching array of ingredients to ‘mix’! Consider items that are sweet, savory, and salty. Here are some examples we like: chocolate chips, M&Ms, nuts like cashews, peanuts, and almonds, sunflower seeds, mini marshmallows, and pretzels. You can also opt for some spicy choices that are flavored with cajun, wasabi, and hot bbq sauce. Bring in those multi-purpose cylinder vases. Those amazingly versatile glass cylinders that can act as vases, planters, candle holders, and yes even food servers. Simply attach various ingredient labels to the vases and tie them with jute twine. Help guests out with signs. Just in case guests wonder what all those yummy munchies are…and what to do with them, display helpful signs and labels. You could go with a bunting-style banner, individual tent cards or craft paper sheets. Include rustic touches. Since your theme and venue are likely to be laid-back and rustic, make use of woodsy elements like wood chips and woven country baskets. Other options would be twigs, berries, bunches of wheat, acorns, pine cones and colorful wildflowers. Prepare take-home containers. Take your pick from bottles, mini baskets, woven boxes, and a whole slew of pouches for guests to bring their goodies home. A great idea, though, would be muslin drawstring bags that you can personalize with stamped designs, your monogram, or a fun message! Happy Trails with the couples name and wedding date would add that personalized touch! Provide serving scoops such as stainless steel ice cream scoops that come in a variety of sizes. Other creative ideas include measuring cups, tea cups, decorative paper cups, and oversized spoons creating a cozy at-home look. If you want a more casual look for your table you can always go for a more hand-crafted vibe—especially for an at-home wedding. Don’t forget burlap, it adds that rustic home feeling. Happy Trails to you until we meet again in the Fall/Winter issue!

look instantly

younger with

Bangs

Bangs can make you look instantly younger—but what looks good on one person may not look good on you. We have put together a list of different style bangs to fit the shape of your face. If You Have a Square Face… The goal would be to counteract any hard angles and soften other features. Try bangs that will narrow the forehead (side-swept styles are especially good for this). Another option is a full fringe that hits just below your brows at the center and gradually gets longer on the sides, maintaining a wispy feel. This will soften strong jaw angles. Keep fringe light enough to allow some of your forehead to peek through to allow bangs movement and help maintain softness. If You Have a Heart-Shaped Face… When your forehead is wider than your jaw line the goal of your bangs should be balancing out the bottom half of the face. A long, side-swept bang is great to achieve this look. “This cut has a balancing effect since it draws attention away from the chin and toward the eyes,” Ask your stylist to add some long face-framing layers to create movement. If You Have a Round Face… Round-faced girls typically shy away from bangs because they have a reputation for making a full face look fuller, but it doesn’t have to be the case. Stay with longer, more tapered side-swept bangs to give the illusion of length. Equally important is what styles won’t work; when it comes to round faces, stay away from wispy styles If You Have a Triangular Face… Women who have a wider, squarer jaw line and a narrow forehead should go for bangs that get longer as they reach the outside of the face. Keep them “slightly wispy and texturized to help conceal a narrow forehead.” The triangular-faced girl’s worst enemy: heavy, blunt bangs that will further accentuate the jaw. If You Have an Oval Face… Of all the face shapes, oval offers the most versatility when it comes to fringe because of the proportions of the shape. From blunt bangs to side-swept and everything in between you can get away with bang experimentation. The Style That Works on Every Woman Heart-shaped bangs look great no matter what your face shape. “This ultraflattering fringe starts slightly longer on the sides and subtly curves with the brow line [but falls just below it], descending down to meet just above the bridge of the nose.” Think of a heart drawn with an extremely shallow point, with pieces longer in the middle and shorter just above the brow. Celebs like Kerry Washington, Lea Michele, and Rashida Jones have all sported this style of bangs.

Controlling your weight is oh so...

delicious!

Nuts...

tweezing tips...

People who eat the most tree nuts were up to 46% less likely to be overweight than those who ate fewer nuts according to a study conducted by Loma Linda University in California. Nuts are high in protein, fiber and unsaturated fat which digest slowly, and help you feel full longer. Nuts do not cause a blood-sugar spike and subsequent insulin release, so your body is less likely to store the calories as fat. Limit your intake to one ounce to avoid an excess of calories though. The following is an example as to how many nuts to eat for a healthy intake: 20-24 almonds, 14 walnut halves, 28 peanuts, 14 pistachios, or 16 cashews. Almonds, walnuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts are particularly linked to weight benefits.

Popcorn...

Say Yes to Popcorn and No to fattening snacks like potato chips. Air-popped popcorn has only 30 calories per cup, and with a whopping 5 grams of fiber per 4-cup portion, it keeps you feeling full. To avoid those extra calories stay away from adding on the butter and oil, which negates the health perks. Try seasoning instead: Dust with chili powder and a dash of sea salt. Lightly mist with olive oil and sprinkle with a tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese and black pepper. Or toss with rosemary, thyme and sage.

Water...

Here is a fact you may not know: People often think they are hungry when they are actually thirsty! Drinking water helps you feel full. Beginning your meal with a broth-based soup or a veggie-filled salad (veggies have a high water content) will help you eat less of your main course. A German research study found both men’s and women’s metabolic rate surged 30 percent after drinking about 17 ounces of water. What does that mean to you? Over a year’s time it could add up to a five-pound weight loss.

Peaches (and other fruits)...

The fruits with the highest water content—such as peaches, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, papaya, and grapefruit—tend to have the lowest calorie levels, giving you the biggest bang for your buck. High-fiber fruits like apples (with skin), berries, bananas, apricots, and pears help by filling you up. Aim for two or three servings of fruit per day. Top yogurt with berries, add sliced apple to your sandwich, or have a kiwi for dessert.

Oats...

Eating whole grains has been associated with maintaining a healthy weight. They control appetite for hours because of their fiber and water content.

Breakfast...

Research shows when you skip breakfast you are more likely to be overweight or obese. By eating a nutritious meal in the morning it will jumpstart your metabolism and may prevent you from overeating later in the day. Too busy, then Prep the night before—hard boil eggs, peanut butter-banana sandwich, or a yogurt and fruit before you head out the door.

Dark chocolate...

This is the best part yet! A study found people who ate chocolate more frequently had a lower body mass index on average. By having small amounts of its intense flavor will help to satisfy sweet and chocolate cravings, saving you from the high calories of treats like cakes, cookies and ice cream. It’s all about the weight-suppressing effect to an antioxidant compound called oligomeric procyanidina. An ounce or so is usually enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, while keeping calories to a minimum.

Brides look luscious with fuller lashes so apply falsies using waterproof lash glue

For the most dewy fresh and glowing Bridal skin always remember to “Carmindize” the face. Use a powder or cream highlighter in a shimmering pink champagne hue in 3 key places to highlight the planes of your face and really make it look stunning. Apply it under the eyebrows (lifts the eyes), on the inside corners of the eyes (makes them sparkle) and on tops of the cheekbones (makes cheekbones look lifted and skin radiant). For a full looking pout apply it around lips too for a plumper smile.

Be the blushing Bride by swirling on a warm pink sheet powder blush using a big fluffy powder brush not a traditional blush brush. This larger size brush will hug the apples of the cheeks better creating the perfect flush with less blending time and mistakes.

Brides look luscious with fuller lashes so apply falsies using waterproof lash glue. For easier application snip a pair of false lashes in half and apply them in 2 separate sections for precision application. Remember to apply a few coats of waterproof black mascara afterwards to blend the real and falsies together. If you cry...everything stays put!

Take “Selfie” tests. Whether doing your wedding day makeup yourself or getting it done professionally always do a few different trial looks before the wedding and take “Selfie” snap shots of the look. This way you can choose your favorite. Don’t forget to ask your future hubby what he thinks as his input is the most important.

Extreme beauty treatments like heavy spray tanning, chemical peels, Botox/fillers, first time brow waxing, drastically changing hair color or anything you have not done a thousand times should always be tried months before the wedding date to ensure you don’t have a bad reaction or decide you hate the way it looks.

Create stay put lip color that doesn’t get cakey by starting with a lipstain. Apply a rose tinted lip stain first as a good base for your lips. Next line your lips with a matching lip pencil and fill them in with it. Now apply a moist lipstick in the same shade on top for a perfect finish. If you want to add gloss wait until you are just about ready to walk down the aisle, and then only apply it on the center of the lower lip so the layers don’t break down. Your lips will stay perfect through all the toasting and kissing, and if the layers do wear off then the stain will stay on as a backup.

Go for a sweat proof and waterproof foundation like my Carmindy & Co Game Changer Foundation. After a full night of dancing and maybe happy tears, your perfect wedding makeup will disappear if you don’t start off with the correct base first.

Your maid of honor should always keep a small cosmetic bag with the following emergency beauty products in it. Waterproof lash glue (in case one comes loose), a brightening concealer stick for around the eyes, face powder, blotting papers, your lip color, a small non-latex sponge, a little vial of your foundation, a toothpick and breath spray.

Use appropriate light when doing your wedding makeup. If you have an outside daytime wedding then apply your makeup in natural daylight. If you have a nighttime wedding then use a front lit indoor mirror. Never apply makeup with overhead lighting as it creates shadows, and can cause over application or bad blending.

White teeth will do wonders in your wedding photos so get a BrightSmile treatment or start using Crest Whitestrips a few months beforehand. Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 83

Danny and I met in Knoxville, TN four years ago while I was in graduate school and he was working at the ABC TV station. We went to the same gym and had noticed each other before, but officially met while out with friends in downtown Knoxville. We started dating almost immediately. We loved experiencing new adventures together and took many weekend trips, whether it was to a sporting event, concert, or to explore a new city. Two years ago, Danny and I were both lucky enough to land job opportunities in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and we jumped at the chance to live on the coast. The past two years we have “lived it up” in our surroundings. We enjoy boating, jet-skiing, fishing and just living in sunny South Florida. Danny and I knew we wanted to get married near the beach and water and after we visited the Four Seasons, we knew it was the place for us. The resorts grounds are stunning, from the landscaping outside to the beautiful flowers inside. The ceremony location overlooks the ocean and was perfect for the sunset vows we had in mind. We wanted the theme to be classic elegance, with our colors being blush and champagne. Champagne itself was also a theme- from the signature cocktail (rose champagne with gold sugar rimmed glasses), to the champagne “guest book,” and the mini bottles for the guests’ favor and seat assignment.

“We wanted the theme to be classic elegance, with our colors being blush and champagne.”

Belivia

&Dave

The Lange Farm, Florida

Belivia (Buffy) met Dave when they were invited to a barbecue at a friend’s house - little did they know that they were the only two guests invited! The matchmaking was a success, and the two single-parents fell in love with not only each other, but with each other’s children. When Dave proposed to Buffy, she knew she wanted a wedding that was visually beautiful but also something intimate where they could enjoy and appreciate the day. So they planned an intimate ceremony where the only two attendants were their two children, and after exchanging vows in front of a Great Oak tree, they danced and dined under a canopy of moss-clad branches as the horses looked on from their stables. Her rustic-chic love birds vision was brought to life through such details as suspended bird cages, blush bird napkin rings, feather accents, bird nest escort cards, a trail mix bar, and even the hors d’oeuvres and desserts featured edible nests and eggs! A nest adorned her bouquet, the flower girl’s dress was trimmed in feathers, and even the ring bearer carried the rings in a nest made of twigs! Following the intimate wedding, the couple hosted a small reception for close friends and family where they danced and celebrated their nuptials. Guests enjoyed a candy buffet and DIY photo booth area before being treated to a private screening of the wedding video from their special ceremony.

Green Peace, In the limelight and the After Party!

FIVE Trends Forman Productions saw in 2014

Foreman Productions had the honor to be a part of over 300 events in 2014 and here is a little of what we saw: Limelight Please! Flame directed on a cylinder of lime created the white light that illuminated Broadway from the start and the importance of Lighting continues to this day. Customers and attendees commented very frequently on the lighting as one of the most important aspects. DJ Play My Song! Modern and contemporary music sometimes required a special digital injection of flavor that a DJ and Fusion Band concept brings home perfectly. Be sure to discuss with your band leader the new trend of Fusion Music. Green Peace! Past clients have expressed repeatedly the natural color and warmth that palm trees, ferns, and everything in between can bring to the color palette of the event. Foliage options are usually much more affordable when you package them with other services. After…Party…Food and Music! Recent years have led to the after-reception food bar experience. Rather tacos, local fair, or White Castle we have seen consistent requests for food and light music after the reception period. Save Money! Working with a company that can provide multiple elements of an event from entertainment to décor can be the perfect way to simplify billing, streamline production oversight and create an opportunity for increased savings.

Duff Goldman Chef Duff Goldman founded his Baltimore based bakery, Charm City Cakes after discovering the time demands from his day job in the kitchen weren’t allowing him the freedom to try his hand at a new career: playing bass as a working musician in a rock band. As he and his team of friends and musicians gained national attention by pushing the boundaries of what a cake could be, Food Network soon tapped Duff and his staff to star in Ace of Cakes.

In 2011 the show saw its United Kingdom premiere draw record numbers for Food Network’s latest overseas venture: Food Network UK. Duff most recently starred in the Food Network series, Holiday Baking Championship and has two new shows on the network beginning in early 2015, Duff Till Dawn (premiering January 29th) and Kids Baking Championship (premiering February 2nd). He has appeared in such culinary hits as The Best Thing I Ever Ate and Sugar High, and has been featured in episodes of Iron Chef America, The Next Food Network Star, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Chefs vs. City, Cupcake Wars, Chopped among others, as well as several guest-starring roles in both TV and film. In 2011, Duff was nominated for two James Beard Foundation awards for both Best TV Food Personality/Host and Best Television Program. In the summer of 2012, Duff opened a West Coast satellite of Charm City Cakes in Los Angeles, Charm City Cakes West. At the same time, he also debuted Duff’s Cake Mix, a do-it-yourself cake shop in the heart of Hollywood. Currently, Duff and his Charm City Cakes brand have formed successful licensing partnerships with several companies including Gartner Studios, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Godvia and more. The Baking Race Is On in Duff Till Dawn In his new series, Duff judges exceptionally creative bakers who must build a cake after closing time in Duff’s L.A. shop. On the line are bragging rights — and the golden whisk. Find out more. What makes Duff Till Dawn such a unique competition show is that the judge and mentor is one in the same: Duff Goldman. As viewers got to see in Sunday’s sneak peek episode, Duff advises the bakers during competition and even helps them out during the challenge, all while hosting the show. But in the end he puts on his judge’s hat and, with two fellow judges, determines who has earned the Golden Whisk by being the best baker to interpret the challenge at hand. The History of the Crinoline Choosing your bridal gown may be one of the most difficult (but fun) parts of preparing for your wedding day. To make the dress look its best, you may need a slip to add volume or to smooth lines created by the lingerie you have chosen. This holds true in the majority of cases, even when the dress includes a built-in crinoline petticoat. There are a number of options to choose from, including sleek, silky full slips, fluffy petticoats, and crinolines and hoops. Slips are available in a range of colors, although most brides prefer white, off-white, or ivory to match their dresses. Can you imagine what it may have been like years ago before our current slips came to be, oh my! The first ‘crinolines’ were petticoats starched for extra stiffness, and often had ruffles to support the skirts to the desired width. However, dress fabrics were heavy but not stiff enough to support their own weight, which tended to collapse the petticoats out of shape. In the 1830s, women started to wear petticoats with hoops of whalebone or cane around the hem. In 1856, the cage crinoline was patented in the United States by the American W.S. Thompson. This facilitated the fashionable silhouette’s development from a cone shape to a dome. The cage crinoline consisted of steel hoops suspended by tapes descending from a band around the wearer’s waist. The crinoline was worn by women of every social class. The wider circulation of magazines and newspapers spread news of the new fashion fueling desire for it, and mass production made it affordable. The crinoline was the subject of much ridicule and satire, particularly in Punch magazine. Dress reformers did not like it, they seized upon the cage aspect of the crinoline and claimed that it effectively imprisoned women. Given that the crinoline did eventually have a maximum diameter of up to 6 feet it is easy to imagine the difficulties in getting through doors, in and out of carriages, and the general problems of maneuvering in such a large structure. Crinolines are still worn today; however, they are usually part of a very formal outfit, such as an evening gown or a wedding dress. The volume of the skirt required is not as great as at the height of the Victorian craze for crinolines, so modern crinolines are most often constructed of several layers of stiff net, with flounces to extend the skirt. If there is a hoop in the crinoline, it will probably be made of plastic or nylon, which are cheap, light and flexible. Slips, petticoats, crinolines and hoop skirts are all bridal undergarments designed to enhance the look of your wedding dress. Without a slip or a wedding petticoat, your bridal gown may look droopy or have unnecessary folds that detract from the overall appearance. It is crucial to have your wedding dress slip on hand when making alterations, as this wedding undergarment will often affect the fit of the wedding gown. The fullness of the bridal crinoline can also have a major impact on the length of the hem. The choice between a wedding petticoat and a hoop skirt is based mostly on personal preference. Hoop skirts are ideal for a bride who does not want material against her legs, especially if the wedding is during the hot summer months. The hoop slip also provides better support for heavier fabrics. The main drawback to the hoop skirt is that it can be more difficult to sit in than a petticoat. Its rigid structure also makes it more difficult for the bride to get into and out of a car. Crinolines can also help during the alteration process. Wedding petticoats often lift the dress off the floor an additional one to two inches, which may be enough to bypass hem alterations all together. For example, if the wedding dress arrives needing a one-inch shortening of the hem, it may be possible the bridal crinoline will actually resolve the problem by elevating the wedding gown by just that amount. This may save you money in the long run when you consider the cost of hem alterations.

We’ve come a long way baby! 102 Florida Bride Spring/Summer 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

ALEX CRAIG

&

Alex and Craig are one of the coolest couples. They are fun, easy going and up for anything. When I first met with Alex about her wedding coverage we talked a little about their engagement session too and she mentioned the idea of doing something with their boat, maybe even on skis. When we started talking logistics, I thought maybe it would be best to use regular skis rather than slalom so that we could really see their full outfits -including both legs. So these two pulled their skis out and made it happen. It was one of the choppiest days ever, but Alex’s mom drove the boat perfectly. Okay except the part where she nearly threw us all off. Apparently the throttle is a wee bit touchy, but Alex and Craig did their thing in JUST ONE TAKE. I was amazed as they got up on their skis, carried their props, had a blast and all on the first try! I was blown away and loved every second of this wonderful shoot. Alex brought her own creativity to this, but still gave me total space to do my thing and shoot the story. We made a great team! Oh, and Craig agreed to it all with a smile and sip of river water, WHAT A GUY.

“Anthony Galati” I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, and one of my favorite subjects has always been people. This was never more true than when I learned to paint with oils, something that I had dreamed of learning for many years. As I began to create one figure painting after another, learning various techniques and ways of working, oils began their ascent to become my favorite medium. This work was typically extremely tight and realistic, which meant that it also took many hours to complete. A few years ago I began to include a new subject to focus on. In one of the most iconic cities in the world, Central Park is the heart of inspiration where the pulse originates. Not just any park will fill the shoes of being the sanctuary to the nonstop way of life for the residents of New York City. The many bridges, boulders, greenery and structures of Central Park are just as appealing to anyone traveling in from out of town. It was there among the many wonderful little worlds that there are to discover that I chose to delve into landscape painting. When doing plain air landscapes, outside in the elements of the site that you are painting, the conditions around you are constantly changing, so you must paint fast. Live event painting was a natural progression for me as it is a combination of the fast way that I had learned to paint scenery and the slower, more detailed way in which I had done my figure paintings. Instead of clouds changing their shape, and the sun changing the direction of the shadows on a tree, I now had DJs swapping blue uplighting for purple, and full dance floors clearing out to hear the first toast of the night. My models? They definitely weren’t standing still anymore. To do this kind of work, you definitely have to “roll with it” and constantly adapt to new changes that are happening.

The bride’s dress is always one of my favorite things to paint in these complex scenes full of so many elements

Loaded with daisies, a spray of paper fans and a cheeky ‘He loves me’ theme, it’s absolutely brilliant for a spring bridal shower. Sugar.. Sugar.. . infused

Inspired by the distinctly chic, wrapped sugar cubes served in Parisian Cafes, Denise Cook,

a then software engineer working abroad became fascinated with the exquisite detail of the stylish wrapped sugar cubes she was served daily with her Cafe Americain. They were the perfect blend of both modern form and function she explains: “I fell in love with the balance of both glamour and modern design that these cubes represented.” Taking a handful of her favorite exquisitely wrapped sugar designs home she immediately thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could make the everyday ritual of sharing tea/coffee with friends that much more special?” And in that moment Artisan Sugars was born. With a scientific and methodical approach Denise perfected the Artisan Sugars Design Technique and introduced a whole New Look for Sugars that pairs modern form with artistic execution. With a nod to one of the most iconic designers of our time, Christian Dior, she directly references his revolutionary vision that combined ultrafemininity with modern lines in the world of post war fashion.

At the heart of Artisan Sugars lives a love of entertaining, making friends and family feel welcome with style and grace. There’s a strong spirit of individualism in the air this new year, with couples keen on infusing their ceremonies and receptions with their own personality. Couples want to communicate who they are. They want their wedding to be elegant and Magical and still very fun for their guests, but they also want all of the details to reflect who they are as a couple. The result is a wedding that feels very personal and unique. How does all of this individuality come together? In the details, of course! Here are the most noteworthy wedding trends we’ve got our eye on this year.

Top blooms. English roses, peonies, hydrangeas, dahlias and ranunculus continue to be go-to favorites among brides. They’re dramatic, they’re romantic and they’re versatile, so they look perfect whether you’re planning a traditional affair or something more relaxed. British invasion. Credit the unwavering appeal of Princess Kate and Downton Abbey for the influx of stylish details that bring to mind afternoon tea and garden parties. For this look, dining al fresco is a popular choice. Tables are often uncovered or simply adorned with a vintage lace cloth. Lush garlands get turned into runners and loosely styled floral centerpieces hang from above. Then enjoy a cozy brunch with homemade scones and jam at each table.

Corner Grooming perfect

Eyebrows! Fashion is not just for women anymore, men are also exploring all aspects of it. So, don’t get surprised if you notice a man busy grooming his eyebrows. Yes, many men groom their eyebrows, one of the important features of your face. They can just stick to the original shape, and pull off the extra hair to have a perfect look. Some guys feel that there shouldn’t be any hair in the middle between their brows. It’s your personal choice, of course, and no one says that you should walk around with a unibrow either, but you need to know how much to take off and where to stop.

Here’s some Tips for Men’s Eyebrow Grooming: Thin out middle. You don’t have to take away all of the hair. You can tweeze out single hairs from the middle taking random thicker hairs, leaving the finer ones. This will thin out the area making the hair look less noticeable. If you’re removing hair on the bottom part of the brow, make straight or slightly curved lines. Stick to just taking hair only outside the main shape. Use a good pair of tweezers. Good tweezers make the job a lot easier and quicker, by grasping hair and not sliding off.

Eyebrow Shapes for Guys: The natural shape of eyebrows in men are completely different from that of women. Also, men have thicker brows. Brows play an important role in the looks and personality of men. Here are some tips on choosing the right eyebrow shapes for men. Round: Men with large eyes and those who have a wide forehead should opt for the round brows. These must be in line with the frontal bone and should gently taper at the ends. Remember, do not have a sharp round shape, it’s only for women! This will also add a tinge of delicacy to your looks. Angular: This one is perfect for men with round faces. Angular shaped brows are suitable for those with a chubby face. This shape enhances the eyes and gives your face a well-designed look. You must opt for a soft angular shape so that it looks natural and attractive. This also looks great for those with a small forehead. Flat: This looks great for men with an oval face. You have to keep them as straight as possible. Do not have an arch or round at the ends. This will give your face a small and round look. This is also among suitable shapes for men with small eyes. Remember to keep a bit more space between the brows, by plucking extra hair, to make the eyes appear larger.

How to Shape Eyebrows One of the brow shaping tips is don’t over-do, try to maintain the natural look, just adding little details according to the desired shapes. Too much perfection is not required. You can decide to shape your brows using one of the hair removal methods, plucking, waxing or threading. While threading would need professional help, you can do waxing and plucking by yourself, but if you are doing it for the first time, it is best to visit a salon. Waxing is a painful process especially for the first timers. If some extra hair gets plucked out, you can use a brow pencil of the same shade as your brows, to fill in the gap. Nowadays stencils are also available for the same. These can also be used by those with sparse eyebrows to create the desired eyebrow shape. Very dense hair or very large eyebrows must be shaped to have a good-looking face. You can just brush them and remove the stray Photography by and long hair to have a decent look, if you don’t want to opt for one of the aforementioned shapes. Shaping the eyebrows will enhance your facial appearance. So guys, if you are planning to shape your brows just go for it! BradHallStudios.com

TIE THE TIE... THEN TIE THE KNOT The Trinity Knot: The Trinity knot, much like the Eldredge knot, is a relatively recent innovation. The finished knot shares a resemblance with the Celtic Triquetra knot. Tied using the small end as the active end, this knot is initially tied loosely and pulled tight at the very end. The Trinity produces a rounded shape that is slightly asymmetrical, slightly larger than the Windsor knot and is visually striking. All who gaze upon the trinity knot will worship her. Trinity Knot Instructions: Start with the wide end of the tie on the left and the small end on the right. The tip of the wide end should rest at the top of your belt buckle. Only move the active (small) end.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7

8 9

Only move the active (small) end. Over the wide end to the left. Up into the neck loop from underneath. Down to the left. Around the back of the wide end to the right. Up to the center, towards neck loop. Through the neck loop and down to the left.

Across the wide end to the right. Up into the neck loop from underneath. Down through the loop you created in the previous step. Keep loose.

10

Bring the small end around the back of the wide end to the right.

11

Bring it across the front towards the center and through the loop created in the previous step.

12

Tighten and tuck the rest of the small end behind neck loop on the left side.

You are now on your tie game. Show it off to the world. Now that you have the your trinity knot mastered...

Let’s accessorize!

Does your man have that certain Pursona? Heard of Pursona? “Give a man a pursona and he will look great for a lifetime.” We believe with every fiber in our being that more than owning a pursona, wearing a pursona is an art. The effect of a pursona accessory can be compared to that of a pair of cufflinks. It adds class and style to any outfit and makes a world of difference. Adding pursona to your wardrobe is essential for that polished and professional look.

{ Packing for the Honeymoon... }

GET the look!

Congratulations! After years of dreaming and months of planning, you and your new husband can finally settle into your new life together with a sundrenched honeymoon in a tropical island. Packing efficiently ensures that you are prepared to have a fantastic time. Before loading up your suitcase (carry on of course!), it’s a good idea to research your specific destination as individual locations may have varying requirements for the time of year in which you are traveling; look out specifically for seasonal rains or dramatic changes in temperature; and also local customs. Additionally, call the place you will be staying and ask specifically about what they will be providing. After all, there is no need to pack things like a hair dryer if they readily provide one.

Deciding what to wear on your honeymoon is something any new bride or groom thinks about, but who has the time to think about that when you are in the midst of putting together one of the biggest and most important events of your life? Understanding how it is, we came up with some ideas and a check list, along with some tips on how to prepare yourself to make packing a breeze.

{ {

Keep In Mind….. You’re going to be taking more photos than usual, so you’ll want to look your best. Pack ONLY the a-list items and splurge where and when you can. You may lose weight with the stress of the wedding planning, so be sure to have a few sizes in your honeymoon wardrobe pile. Know your destination. Is the resort casual or is it formal? What plans you are making for dinner? All of this will help you make a plan for what you need to pack. Don’t forget to bring the sex appeal. This is your honeymoon for Pete’s Sake! Toss out the old PJ’s and go sexy. If sexy isn’t your style, at the very least pack NEW pajamas!

Know your excursions. Have an idea of what you plan on doing. For example, if you plan on riding down the beach on a horse at sunset, you’re going to need pants or long shorts, in addition to shoes that won’t fly off. If you plan on hiking, biking or even taking an ATV tour, pack appropriate clothing. Nothing can ruin a fun day more then having a rash, irritated skin or blisters. Trust us, it will put a damper on your fun night. Coordinate your jewelry so that you can pack as lightly as possible, but still look hip and fresh.

the essentials... When it comes to packing for your honeymoon, you can never be too prepared, right? Not so! Tote too much, and an unwieldy bag will bog you down. Take too little, and you end up buying what you didn’t bring. The solution? Our barebones honeymoon packing checklist will keep you covered for emergencies and help you sail through your honeymoon with ease.

Plus-sized Bride

Celebrate your curves with these stylish wedding dresses that come in every size By: Shafonne Myers, CWEP, Member of Association of Bridal Consultants Founder and CEO of Pretty Pear Bride Let’s be honest, as a bride-to-be we can’t all be a size 0, and truthfully some of us don’t even want to be. Some of us actually want to flaunt and celebrate our fabulosity as a curvy bride. But buying a designer wedding gown can be a bit complicated with those curves. Don’t worry because we are here to save the day with a roundup of the best plus size wedding dresses for curvy brides to be. The plus size bridal industry is growing tremendously and there is a whole world of plus size wedding dresses waiting to be found. In this community there are plus size specialists like IGIGI, and even some of your wedding market mass retailers like David’s Bridal, Watters and Kleinfelds are taking notice to full figured brides. Curvy wedding dresses are meant to fit perfectly and flatter every part of your gorgeous body. They feature fabulous curve slimming silhouettes, blinged out belts that will cinch every inch of your waist and rouched bodices that enhance and define all your best assets. They all have the latest trends that are gracing the bridal runways from illusion necklines that allow you to show off just the right amount of cleavage, lace that will make you fill as romantic and elegant as Grace Kelly and sheaths that will make you feel like you are walking a Hollywood red carpet. First, gowns with sleeves are the perfect option for the bride-to-be who prefers to keep her arms and shoulders covered, or just favors a more modest style — but don’t confuse coverage for frumpy! From 3/4-length sleeves to delicate cap sleeves, there’s no shortage of stylish takes on this trend. Prefer something more versatile? Consider a wedding dress with a matching cape, since it allows you more versatility with your look on your big day.

Another look perfect for the fuller-figured bride? Tea-length dresses! Not only do they look incredible on a girl with curves, they’re also super flattering for a bride who wants to add some height to her wedding-day look. (Plus, it gives you an excellent excuse to splurge on a pair of killer shoes!) Corsets were another big hit on the bridal runway, and it’s easy to understand why this style translates well for any size bride. They create that coveted hourglass shape and define your curves! Another easy way to flaunt your favorite assets is to select a dress with incredible embroidery and detail. They’ll draw attention where you want it, meaning you can highlight (and hide) what you want! Embroidery and design transform a classic look into something extraordinary.
