Exceeding expectations at EISENWARENMESSE

After four years, EISENWARENMESSE – International Hardware Fair Köln was finally able to return to Koelnmesse following restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite exhibitor expectations on what to expect lower than usual, there was a definite feeling of relief to be returning to face-to-face meetings. Editorial Assistant Becca England, visited the show to see what fastener, fixing and tool innovations were on display.

E

xhibiting this year were 1,400 companies from 50 countries, with fastener and fixing companies well represented in halls 3, 10 and 11. These included ARaymond SAS, Bossong SpA, Ettinger GmbH, Fixi Sistemi Di Fissaggio, GESIPA Blindniettechnik GmbH, INDEX – A Perfect Fixing, Pecol Sistemas de Fixação S.A, pgb-Europe N.V, Projahn Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH, STANLEY Black & Decker, Tecfi SpA, tesa SE, TOX Dübel Technik GmbH, F Reyher Nchfg GmbH & Co KG and many more.

Following the pandemic, it was apparent expectations were lower for certain exhibitors than that of previous years due to travel restrictions which remained in some countries. Despite this, 25,000 visitors from 125 countries attended the show – with 70% of visitors travelling from outside of Germany.

“The sense of relief at finally being able to meet face-to-face again after such a long time and do business in person could be clearly felt among all our exhibitors and trade visitors throughout the entire trade fair. You had the feeling that a big family was getting together again after a long time apart,” states Oliver Frese, chief operating officer at Koelnmesse GmbH. “The trade fair was a success, especially in the context of the ongoing travel restrictions in Asia; the acute energy and raw materials crisis; as well as the geopolitical situation in many countries. The feedback from our exhibitors about the business contacts they’ve made is positive across the board. Clearly companies made a strategic decision to attend EISENWARENMESSE – the decision makers were here, and exhibitors reported a high calibre of visitors.”

This was confirmed by Michael Martsch, vice-president of sales at Reyher, who said: “This year despite the uncertainty, we had a similarly high number of visitors at our booth as we did at the last Köln show. We were therefore very satisfied with the quality of our discussions.”

Echoing the high-quality of visitors was Bossong. “The quality of visitors at our stand was good with customers being excited to be back to face-to-face meetings. This also meant visitors were highly motivated to meet new and current suppliers, which certainly improved the experience,” commented Elenora Locatelli, marketing sales at Bossong. “The show marked a great opportunity to present our new E-Plus pure epoxy resin chemical anchor to visitors, which is earthquake resistant and environmentally friendly due to its styrenefree component.”

Also with new products on display was GESIPA with its new Birdie® cordless blind riveting tool. The cordless tool, which is notably lighter than its predecessor at 900g, has a setting force of 10,000N and a 25mm tool stroke, along with an 18V battery. As well as this, new TOX products designed for the construction industry were on

display at the TOX stand, including the Thermo Proof Wood spacer mounting system for timber constructions, the Thermo Proof Mini Wood, as well as the Aqua Stop Pro sealing plug. “We were able to welcome many interested parties to our stand – both existing customers and new contacts,” said Carola Marquart, export sales manager at TOX. “All our target groups were represented, such as large DIY purchasing organisations, wholesalers, retailers and industrial customers and were very satisfied with the quality and quantity of visitors.”

Returning to the show was STANLEY Black & Decker. “We’re over the moon to be back after a break. Our international customers have told us that they travelled to Köln especially to come and see us, which makes EISENWARENMESSE the ideal place to not just meet current customers but also tap into new areas of the market and find new retailers,” explained Paul Samms, director of licensing at STANLEY Black & Decker.

EISENWARENMESSE will return in 2024 from the 3rd – 6th March at Koelnmesse.

Particularly with such a large and renowned exhibition such as Fastener Fair Global, which has such wide ranging and international participation.”

High-level exhibitor satisfaction

At the last edition, nine in ten exhibitors claimed to be satisfied with the show. This is reflected in the concrete business goals that were achieved through participation in the exhibition, as 85% of exhibitors received positive business enquiries as a result of taking part in Fastener Fair Global. Furthermore, the exhibitor satisfaction was affected by the quality of the attendees at the show, with 95% of visitors having an influence on or personally making purchasing decisions.

The mix of visitors to the last show represented the diversity of markets served by the fastener and fixing industry. Most visitors were either wholesalers, manufacturers or distributors, all playing a vital role in the supply chain. Visitors came from a wide range of professions, such as senior managers, buyers, engineers, R&D professionals and specialists who source and trade fasteners as well as fixings for various sectors, mainly automotive, construction, distribution, and mechanical engineering.

UKCW returns with record visitors

The UK’s largest event for the built environment, UK Construction Week (UKCW) Birmingham, made a welcome return to the NEC from 4th – 6th October 2022, with visitor numbers up 19% from last year.

D

rawing over 23,900 visitors from as far afield as Turkey, Brazil, Australia, Norway, India, the UAE and Canada, UKCW Birmingham celebrated culture change in construction with three days of debate and discussion from top speakers across seven stages. There is a real sense of momentum now as we plan the next one, especially on meeting our Net Zero targets and creating long-lasting culture change. A record number of companies have signed up for 2023 so we look forward to really growing the UK’s largest trade show for construction.”

Dates for next year’s two shows have already been announced – UKCW London will take place from 2nd – 4th May 2023 at ExCeL and UKCW Birmingham will run from 3rd – 5th October 2023 at the NEC.

New trade fair management for HUSUM WIND

From 1st October 2022, HUSUM WIND, a technology trade fair for the German renewable energy market, has new management, with Diana Haagen as project director.

aagen has many years of international experience in the B2B segment of the trade fair industry. For more than ten years, she worked for H Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH as project manager for maritime trade fairs, among others. She was also responsible for the market launch and positioning of SMM’s foreign subsidiaries SMM India and SMM Istanbul. Previously, she has also worked in the foreign department and was responsible for the organisation of German pavilions which are held worldwide as part of the foreign trade fair programme by BMWi (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action). In recent years, the certified event manager has been self employed.

Klaus Liermann, CEO of Messe Husum und Congress GmbH & Co KG, commented: “In Diana Haagen we have brought in an experienced manager with in-depth knowledge of the trade fair industry. She is a native of Husum and has followed the development of HUSUM WIND since its beginnings. We are very pleased that she is taking over the position as project director for this trade fair.”

The HUSUM WIND website has also been relaunched in a new design together with a new logo and claim; ‘Transforming Energy.’

Visitors return to parts2clean

By the end of the third and final day of the 19th edition of parts2clean, it was abundantly clear that the requirements for cleaning industrial parts are becoming increasingly diverse and demanding, with more than 2,300 visitors attending the show – up by around 15% on 2021.

From 11th – 13th October at the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre in Germany, the show saw a number of trade fair attendees from outside Germany with the strongest nations being Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Poland.

“We are satisfied with the course of this year’s parts2clean in the face of the prevailing conditions,” says Hendrik Engelking, global director at Deutsche Messe. “More important for us, however, is that participating in the trade show was worth it for our exhibitors.”

Most of the 140 exhibitors from 16 countries who presented their new, enhanced and established products and services for industrial parts and surface cleaning on over 4,300m2 of display space, were able to hold highly detailed discussions. This was confirmed by Michael Höckh, managing director of Höckh Metall-Reinigungsanlagen GmbH: “For us it was an acutely interesting trade fair. Our visitors here were overwhelmingly devoted to finding solutions to projects they are planning to implement in the near future. Often this involves making replacement investments in order to meet higher cleanliness requirements.”

Another highlight at parts2clean 2022 was the presentation of the FiT2clean award for outstanding achievements and solutions for a current challenge in industrial parts cleaning, which the Industrial Parts Cleaning Association (FiT) was offering for the first time. The award went to Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) for its new and unconventional approach of using liquid butane gas as an effective and energy saving cleaning medium.

The 20th and anniversary edition of parts2clean will run from 26th – 28th September 2023 at the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre.
