The human spine was not designed to be an upright column, it just evolved that way. It evolved following the pattern laid out for it by its genes and the rules of physics.

The spine is a tensegrity tower that integrates with the limbs, head and tail and to the visceral system, as well.

A change of tension anywhere within the system is instantly signaled to everywhere else in the body and there is a total body response by mechanical transduction. The structure works equally well right side up, upside down, in sea, land, air or in space.

It allowed we creat more flexable structure which can be an extension of human body.

Clothing provides a shelter to the human body, in the same way that a building does provides protection. Our clothes consist an extended skin for our bodies.

The idea here is to create a structure around the body that will provide protection during some sort of bad external conditions i.e. weather. The scarf is inspired by the 16th century ruffs and the movement of the carnivorous plant.

At first, the scarf is gathered around the neck, and while activated it embraces first the head and then the rest of the body.

It is made by soft robotics and activated manually by hand.

BODY ARCHITECTURE REDEFINE OUR BOUNDARIES

At first we create a simple wearable volume, that can extend the physical boundaries of the human body, as a test to figure out how our brain adapt to the new shape and boundaries of our body. Emphasis is given on the area around the neck and arms, the waist and legs.

Then we create a series of polysterene volumes that provide extra mass around the neck and arms, hands and abdomen.

This idea is a translation of another idea of extending the human body. A system of magnetic balls that are gravitated on a surface attached to the body, and through a system of sensors these balls are able to move and create masses based on the given criteria. The polysterene balls was a representation of this idea.

The first experiment shows the heart rate of Chao, Ero, and Lana, for a 30 seconds period of time.

The charts show the heart beats per time for each person for two different cases.

The first chart shows the beats per time, per person during a relaxation state, according to the individual’s claims. The second chart shows the heart beats captured by the ear-clip sensor after a ten minutes exercise activity.

The second experiment’s graph represents the heart rate of Chao, Ero, and Lana, for a 3 hours period of time. The charts show the heart beats per minute for each person.

The first chart shows how these 3 people react during a 20 minutes funny video, and the second one how their mood has changed after forcing themselves to become sad, either by watching a sad video, or listening to music that was mentally connected to a sad moment of their lifes.

REFLECTOR WINGS MOVEMENT

LightBeats is a light space modulator that activated while captures people’s pulse. As soon as an individual touch the finger heart-rate sensors, the reflector wings start to move based also on each finger’s activity. The result is all the wings to move individually, creating a kind of involuntary movement spectacle.

Meanwhile the light which is fixed on the internal part of the modulator is reflected to all directions. The movement’s speed is based on the level of tension that each emotion is been felt.

The higher the emotion, the quicker the movement. It is an initial attempt to create a network between random people and their emotions, based on the influence of each modulator to the rest modulators around it.

AN OBSCURE EXPERIMENT EXQUISITE INSTRUMENT ERO PAPAVASSILIOU AKSA KHERA

This project is an experiment combining human emotions and their interaction with different light qualities, colors, or intensities. The purpose is to exam how each personâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s emotional state can possibly get affected or changed based on light spectacles.

The first part of the experiment was to capture different patterns of light creations. We used a range of different materials from metal tubes to translucent PVC sheets and got the results for three different colors of light.

Then we presented the videos to 50 people and asked them to fill a questionnaire based on the videos and their current emotional state. The next page is consisted with part of the evaluation results.

The first series is a combination of arrows describing how these people express each of the given emotions.

The second one shows in which way they can sense the impact of these emotions on their bodies. Finally, the third one is a combination of spots, on specific parts of their bodies, that they believe are more related with each given emotional state.

AUGMENTED REALITY CONCEPT CONNECTING PEOPLE THROUGH EMOTIONS

The oculus glass will consist an important part of our project. It is a mean of connecting reality with the visual realities that we aim to add in our concept, to create a network of augmented realities. An initial attempt, is to communicate emotions between people, through an AR, that is mainly a representation of colorful lines that express specific emotions.

Our main concept is built on the idea that nowadays, people have lost their physical contact. So we design an eye device and challenge people to come closer to each other. As soon as two people acquire physical contact, and touch each other, their ear-clip heart sensor starts rating values. These values are transformed into colors, based on each emotion that they represent, and create lines that compose connections between people. The oculus allows you to be able to see these lines.

AUGMENTED REALITY CONCEPT CONNECTING PEOPLE THROUGH EMOTIONS

HUGGING JACKET INTRODUCING NETWORK

This project is an attempt to create a network between two people that are in different places at a specific time and feel the need to interact with each other, through a hug. It can also be used as a mean of interaction between two random people.

The first person presses the touch sensor that is inserted on the jacket, which sents a signal to the second personâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s jacket and turns on an LED. Then the second person might recreate the hug movement, and through the flex sensors that are introduced in his gloves, the first jacket got activated. Both jackets are made of soft robotics, so while activated, the air muscles are filled with air, and provide the feeling of an actual hug to the wearer.

ENHANCING THE BODY POLYMELIA PROJECT

“Polymelia” is the idea of extending the human body as a whole, looking forward to a future body that will be an improved version of our current one, with enhanced capabilities, more resistance and strength.

Our brain normally recognises our given by birth body schema as the standard and each one of its functions follows that schema.

There is lot of research around the case of amputation or the phantom limbs, and a neurological and sociological analysis of the patient’s after those incidents life.

However, we don’t know much about the case of polymelia. How our brain could possibly recognises the extra limbs or parts in general, how easily it will adapt to the new prosthetic exoskeletical body, and what will be the impact on a more psychological and sociological basis?

This project is inspired by the structure of eyes in order to bring views inside.

Augmented reality is a variation of virtual environments (i.e. virtual reality). VE technologies completely immerse a user inside a synthetic environment, where he is not able to see the world around him. AR gives the user the possibility to see the real world, with virtual objects composited or superimposed upon with the real world; instead of completely replacing a reality, it supplements it. In an AR, 3D virtual objects are integrated in real time into a 3D real environment.

These virtual objects display information that the user cannot directly detect with his own senses.

EYE TRACKING METHODS BINOCULAR VISION DIAGRAM Gaze tracking or eye tracking devices provide the information to analyse where we are looking at. This device requires two cameras to capture the views of both the pupil and the world. Based on different positions of the eye-motio-tracking camera, it can be divided into three categories.

POLYEYES VOL 1.0 PROTOTYPE 1.0 Starting with the head, we focus on extending the sense of vision as part of our general development of our visual spatial perception.

There is a mutual relationship between the human body and the space. The structure of a body defines the space around it, and at the same time, this space affects the perception of that body in a completely personalised way. By changing any of these two aspects, we are automatically affecting the whole process. Our concept seeks to upgrade the human body and by extension, redefine the way of perceiving the surrounded environment.

Thus, our initial concept is to provide 360 degrees of vision around the perimeter of the head. We build a very simple device that is consisted of three layers and two structures, the esoskeletical and the exoskeletical one. The first layer is the oculus glasses. Basically, these glasses operate more like a case for our mobile device. The second and third layer are combined together as part of the exoskeletical structure, and they are consisted by two cameras (representation of our eyes), and a surface that covers the face and the glasses (as a representation of our facial skin).

The whole device is connected with the esoskeletical structure through a stepper motor, that is allowing the rotation of the device, and its direction of rotation is being controlled by two flex sensors that are placed on the two pointer fingers of the wearer.

The operation of this device is also simple. The wearer can control the direction of his vision rotation and choose what to see, through bending his two fingers. Then, the exoskeletical structure is rotating, and he can see exactly what the two cameras are capturing.

The cameras are sending two seperate videos on the mobile deviceâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s screen and the oculus glasses are transforming this videos into a united 3D space to the eyes of the viewer.

Arm and hand’s muscles are specifically designed to meet the body’s diverse needs of strength, speed, and precision while completing many complex daily tasks. Activities such as lifting weights or heavy boxes require brute strength from the muscles of the arm. Most of the muscles that move the wrist, hand, and fingers are located in the forearm. These thin, strap-like muscles extend from the humerus, ulna and radius and insert into the carpals, metacar pals, and phalanges via long tendons.
