Our Saints apply learning to life.

Academics

And we know that life offers a lot to learn.

At St. Paul’s we have high expectations for our Saints’ academic performance. But academic development is not enough. Our intimate atmosphere and interdisciplinary study allow for rich and diverse interactions among students and teachers, assuring that students grow intellectually, socially, and creatively too. We utilize many active learning methods: simulations, experimentation, oral presentations, and travel to assure that all students have ample opportunities to excel. Students move from grade to grade, prepared and excited to graduate as competent and confident individuals.

When exchanging ideas and making new discoveries, our students and teachers create moments filled with excitement and intrigue.

Classes at St. Paul’s bring students and teachers together to create influential encounters that provide lasting memories for students.

Students will be asked to contribute and will be challenged to articulate their opinions, beliefs, and passions. A seriousness of purpose guides our work in the classroom . . . a seriousness that makes learning a joy.

Arts

Saints are created through their confident actions.

Creativity matters at St. Paul’s.

Artistic expression is a hallmark of a St. Paul’s education.

Our students act in exquisite productions, produce beautiful sculptures and paintings, and create remarkable photographs.

A tremendous body of research stands in support of the benefits of a superb arts education for our students. By focusing on intention and purpose, our students demonstrate improved academic performance, true leadership and social skills, advanced creative problem solving, and an overall enhanced ability to compete in a 21st century workforce.

An arts based education also creates an increase in school attendance, student motivation, and a child’s sense of belonging. Boasting the national, state, and local honors to prove it, the arts program inspires students to achieve at a level rarely found among young people.

This is just part of the end result of a purposeful arts education curriculum.

Our art students create magnificent sculptures, perform classical pieces on their strings, and capture magical moments in their photographs.

Love God and love one another. At St. Paul’s Episcopal School, love is at the center of everything we do.

Spirituality is a cornerstone of a St. Paul’s education, and love is the centerpiece of our spirituality.

We know that a St. Paul’s education does not stop at the threshold of our doors. Our students carry forth their life-long learning and their love for God and one another as they travel through their days. True to our Episcopal tradition, St. Paul’s is grounded in Christian beliefs, yet welcomes students of all faith backgrounds. Students and

teachers gather weekly to attend chapel and monthly for church services. These moments provide a shelter from the whirlwind of daily life, offering time to look inward and to focus on what we have done and left undone. They encourage us to think of loved ones and those in need. Treating fellow students with dignity and respect is not merely talked about but is lived and taught through the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program beginning in Kindergarten and continuing to eighth grade. Through this program our students are taught skills which enable them to handle a multitude of situations that may arise. At all times St. Paul’s Episcopal School seeks to embody authentic Christian qualities of concern for and acceptance of others, with compassion, generosity of spirit, and empathy. Our community service program stems from this world view. In all we do, we instill in our students sympathy for others and a citizen’s personal responsibility so that they use their talents to serve others and the world at large.

Winning championships doesn’t make us Saints.

Caring about the character of every single player? That just might.

St. Paul’s athletics are not a frivolous distraction. Sport is an equal opportunity teacher. It is a nonpartisan event. Universal in its application, athletic endeavors are unrelenting in their ability to exact a measure of commitment from all.

Through hard work and continual effort, our student athletes increase in self-esteem as they push their bodies and minds beyond what they previously believed possible. It is fundamentally American to rely on one’s individual skills to achieve desired goals. However, we combine individual effort and achievement with superb intrapersonal and team building skills to create championship teams. At St. Paul’s Episcopal School we believe that our sports teach lessons in ethics, morality and fairness.

The sense of community connected with St. Paul’s athletics transcends wins or

losses. Our Saints know that each time they take the field or court, approach the track, or sprint onto the diamond they are doing so with the support of their parents, coaches, teachers, classmates, and alumni.

At St. Paul’s, winning is important, but it is character, sportsmanship, and fairness that matters most.

Saints love learning and learn to love.

Our little Saints start their first year the same way they end their Senior year, with a song on the “red steps” of St. Paul’s Church. At St. Paul’s, starting the learning process is the most important part of the education equation.

Engaging Activities.

Keeping wonder and curiosity in learning is fundamental at St. Paul’s Episcopal School. Ample opportunities abound for our younger students to interact with objects and artifacts, engaging the senses through touch, sight, hearing, and movement with the intention of cultivating their love of learning. We seek to guide students’ learning, but also to enlarge their hearts.

We aim to educate our students toward a higher call, nurturing their spiritual life while building their character and integrity. In addition to giving our students a strong academic foundation, we teach the importance of friendship by leading students to understand the ideas of dignity, respect, and kindness.

Offering a helping hand, speaking encouraging words, and resolving conflict peacefully are active ways for us all to love the Lord with all our heart, all our understanding, and all our strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Great technology. is no substitute. for great teaching.

But having both provides worlds of opportunities.

At St. Paul’s Episcopal School we believe that creativity is thinking new things and doing new things. Technology allows our students and teachers to do both; that is why we are one-to-one with a device beginning in fifth grade. Doing so allows students access to advanced technology which assures that our teachers are no longer bound by a fixed curriculum found in a single textbook. Using new and improved materials, via the device, encourages an innovative and creative environment for both teachers and students.

St. Paul’s Episcopal School | GRADES 5 - 8

Because students in fifth through eighth grade face times of tremendous growth, our teachers at St. Paul’s create a curriculum that challenges, interests, motivates, and engages this delicate age-group. You will find that our students are rarely passive in their learning; they are students who learn by “doing,” both in and outside of the classroom. This means that our students are artists, writers, scientists, athletes, and mathematicians who seriously enjoy using their emerging skills to solve, create, compute, and compete to be the best they can be. They do all this in an environment that is safe, nurturing, and loving. Fifth through eighth grade is an essential, transitional component of St. Paul’s college preparatory mission. At this stage, students learn to meet the accelerating demands of the academic curriculum in an environment that is, first and foremost, student-centered.

Upper School marks the culmination of the St. Paul’s experience.

As students move from childhood into young adulthood, they gain access to a tapestry of challenging academic courses, clubs, activities, sports, performances, student leadership and service opportunities, extra curricular travel, and social activities.

Combining these elements creates a unified and fulfilling educational experience that expands intellectual boundaries, builds confidence, and ultimately prepares students for college and life.
