RAISING THE ALARM Bato challenges Davao City police force to contain increasing crime incidents

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa challenged on Saturday authorities in Davao City to do their best in resolving crimes amid the increasing crime incidents in the city of late, particularly rape.

The strong message comes at the heels of the rape with homicide case of a 28-year-old architect who was found dead in a banana plantation at Purok 6, Barangay Dacudao, Calinan, Davao City on May 18, 2023.

Dela Rosa, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, said that the high incidence of rape cases in Davao City is an indicator that drugs are prevalent again.

Around 4,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes due to the threat of an alleged leader of terrorist group Dawlah Islamiyah in Marogong, Lanao del Sur, the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) said Monday.

“Nasa 4,000 residents involving 400 to 450 households of Marogong evacuated,” PRO BAR public information office chief Police Lieutenant Eirene Mazon said.

Mazon said around 20% of the evacuees have already re- turned to their houses.

At a press briefing in Quezon City, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. said they have already boosted the deployment of police forces and coordinated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to secure the area.

“We have ample of security forces enough really to safeguard yung bayan [the town],” he said.
