Lucien Tinkler won the Legends Tour Championship Professional event at the Byron Bay Golf Club earlier this month, while local 16-year -old Conor Whitelock won the amateur section. ‘Another successful event was staged here at the Club. Our course was presented to the players in perfect condition and the scoring was good considering the tough conditions that were experienced,’ Byron Bay Golf Club professional Greg Stewart said. ‘Mother Nature provided electrical storms on the Saturday afternoon giving us a suspension of play for the day,’ he said. The professionals recommenced their rounds at 6.30am on the Sunday morning. The final round then started at 11am with a shotgun start. ‘The great final day story

was the leading five professionals battling for the professional victory. ‘Then we had 16-year-old Conor Whitelock leading 18-year-old Jay MacKenzie by one shot in the amateur section,’ Greg said. ‘Conor played outstanding golf to finish the 54-hole event with a three under par total of 213 to claim the amateur section. Lucien Tinkler won the Legends Tour Championship Professional event with a five under total of 21. ‘Lucien has supported this event over the past five years and played great golf to claim the victory,’ Greg said. ‘The Byron Bay Golf Club would like thank the ongoing support of all our sponsors and the fantastic volunteer contributions that help to make this tournament what it is,’ he said.

The All Girls Surfriders at Lennox Head wrapped up their 24th year of successful operation with their end-ofseason presentations and celebrations last week. ‘It has been a fantastic year of surfing, learning, fun, new friendships and old friends all coming together to make up this awesome club of ours,’ club person of the year Jane Collins said.

‘It has been an absolute pleasure to spend the year with all of you and watch everyone take on all of the different conditions that Mother Nature dishes out to us as surfers, some pleasant and some super challenging. ‘I would like to thank the committee of 2017; this club would not be here without your dedication and hard work throughout the year. ‘Lastly I would like to throw a big thankyou out to

each and every club member and parent involved; it has been a pleasure and an honour to have met you and surfed with you all throughout the year. This club would not be the club it is without each of you,’ she said.

Mullum Brunswick cricketers are back to their winning best

Bowl0 keep rolling in Twilight cricket Sly Reid

Bowlo remain undefeated and T&C kept up a winning streak in last week’s games of the Byron Bay 16-over Twilight cricket competition. Monday’s match proved to be a tight game with Rip Starters eventually being beaten by the Mighty Bowlo after Simon scored 31 keep his side’s undefeated run. Greeny hit 30 for the Starters. On Tuesday the Kronix managed to defeat the West Tower Windies even though both Hailey and Casper got their 30 runs. Mick did the same for the Ks. The Rugby Club overcame the Hot Bread Loafers on Wednesday evening with Schmidty hitting 32 and Larsso 30 for the footballers.

Town and Country Surfboards leapt into third place on Thursday by virtue of their win over Paul Munn Designs. Buttercup hit 34 and Dougie 39 while no-one in the PMD reached the magic 30-run mark. The same can be said for the two sides that played on Friday night. The TNR crew just could amass enough runs to overcome Eureka, whose win puts them in second place on the ladder. Eureka’s bowlers were too good, limiting TNR to 57 runs. The team’s batters took just 10 overs to chase down the total. With one round to go before the Christmas break the season resumes mid-January with all players rested and refreshed.
