ENTERTAINMENT WITH LILITH RETRO MERCURY IN THE SIGN OF FIERY TONGUES FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS CAN ACTIVATE A WORLD OF REACTIONS, REGRETS AND REMORSE, SO THINK ALTERNATIVE RE WORDS: RETREAT, REPEAT, RECONSIDER, RELATE AND ABOVE ALL RELAX… ARIES: Communication during Mercury’s retrograde phase can be confusing, usually owing to misunderstanding. You don’t like having to repeat yourself, but this week’s crossed wires make it worth the effort. And with seasonal stress already a given, no need to up the ante by inviting it in for a drink and a whinge.

LIBRA: Venus in Sagittarius brings a carefree balance of community partying and merry shindigs to retro Mercury’s edgy, contentious seasonal shopathon. Which is best approached with optimism, generosity and a spirit of fun rather than as an unavoidable burden. A week to include diverse viewpoints and opinions in the festive mix.

TAURUS: As Venus leaps into Sagittarius for some extravagant holiday shopping, Mercury tosses in complications just for the fun of it. Yes, others will bitch and criticise while you search for workable alternatives, suggesting your guiding verb for this week could well be the fabulous English word coddiwomple, meaning purposefully travelling towards a vague destination.

SCORPIO: If this week finds you in take-no-prisoners mood with fraught and fractious end-of-year urgencies, it’s time to get your legendary self-control doing its thing. With communication glitches omnipresent, arguing’s an unprofitable exercise; use energy more efficiently by confirming arrangements, backing up electronics and rechecking plans.

GEMINI: Following funloving, light-hearted Gemini full moon attracting charismatic newbies into your orbit, this week’s Mercury retrograde also suggests contacting people you haven’t seen in a while – but keep in mind differences of opinion can be sharp and harsh during this speedy, angsty period. Practise safe speech by pausing before you talk.

SAGITTARIUS: V e n u s joining Sun, Mercury and Saturn in Sagittarius makes for a powerful planetary quartet bubbling over with energetic bounce and push. But you know your constitutional tendency to overdo it, so when you come up against restrictions and setbacks, take notice of retro Mercury’s message to rein in that wild brumby.

CANCER: The pre-xmas leadup can be a bit of an obstacle course, especially if earlyweek’s full moon fuelled domestic disagreements or misunderstandings. Let midweek moon in your own sensitive sign soothe the pressures and tensions of being dependent on others. This isn’t a time to be making big changes. LEO: This week could see promises inflated and estimates exaggerated, with late-week Leo moon inclining you towards big ticket buys. Make sure return policies are solid in case of post-purchase dissonance. When people don’t agree with you, it’s wiser to adapt than persist. And never forget that delays can work in your favour. VIRGO: Mistakes happen more often in stressy cycles, so downplay the frustrations of your planet ruler Mercury’s retrograde with patience towards yourself and others if something needs rearranging or renegotiating. Don’t let small disappointments and miniglitches spoil your week’s enjoyment. Put obligations on hold occasionally and do something unexpected, spontaneous.

CAPRICORN: Saturn continues winding up its three-year sojourn in your house of completion this week. But of course as one story approaches its close, another one starts up. If the hectic round of social obligations doesn’t wildly appeal right now, then accept retro Mercury’s excellent invitation to rejig commitments and reconsider holiday plans. AQUARIUS: Everyone’s in a rush and taking things for granted, but as the saying goes: Don’t count your Xmas chickens before they’re hatched. Hasty words or behaviour can have eruptive repercussions, so start applying the brakes while you still can. Ease unbudgeable, no-win situations by being flexible and inventive. PISCES: Pisceans are known for their poetic side, and might find this week’s quotation from the Indian mystic Kabir useful: I felt in need of a great pilgrimage, so I sat still for three days… This week of contradictory impulses and oppositional opinions has intuitive clues and useful cues for those who are listening…

STOP ADANI!

Mark toured Dad. Joke. and How Deep Is Your Love? all over Australia. They led him to host Studio 10 with Ita Buttrose and on to Late Night Love with Philip Adams. His play Water Falling Down showed at QTC in Brisbane and B Street, Sacramento. Mark took Jeremy Boutsakis to Edinburgh in 2007. He moved to Mullum in 2013, is a director of the fabulous Spaghetti Circus, company secretary at Enova Energy and the proud MC of Mullumgrad’s leading all-male Russian choir Dustyesky. Let him know if you’d like to chat, run a by-election or conduct an unnecessary postal survey together. A bonkers friend also made some Alt PM badges. We’ll sell them at the gig to raise a few more bob for the Romero Centre. Should raise at least a dollar, maybe two. Mullum Ex-Services, Thursday 7.30pm.

Guarding the Galilee is a 30-minute documentary on the battle to stop the biggest coal mine in Australian history, the Adani Carmichael Project. The documentary screening, narrated by The Castle’s Michael Caton, is about the epic fight to stop the Adani mine. Speakers on the night will be Mandy Nolan and Tony Barry and there will be a performance by Sophia Fletcher.

KIDS GET FUNNY WITH MANDY For years comedians have made jokes about how funny kids are. And sure, they are. They say some pretty hysterical stuff. But what do kids actually think about adults? About our hypocrisy? About our rules? About how we run the world? Find out what the world looks like from a kid’s perspective when comedian and mother of five Mandy Nolan presents Funny Kids — a 2-hour standup comedy spectacular that features 20 kids, aged 8–12, all performing their first standup comedy routines.
