A cheeky campaign to ensure everyone is enrolled for the costly non-binding postal marriage equality vote ran through Mullum on Saturday. ‘Brides’ Adrienne Dewdney and Bec Talbot dropped into the Mullum monthly market to propose to market-goers. Dropping to one knee, Bec presented her ring box and asked, ‘Look, I know we’ve only just met, but will you update your enrolment details with me?’ The Northern Rivers Greens duo say they helped a dozen people update their details on the spot. Thursday, August 24 is the last day for updating details with the AEC. As it’s a postal vote, you won’t get sent the ballot unless your details are up-to-date. Visit www.aec.gov.au for more info.

It’s the next instalment of Hunter shenanigans! An entertaining and informative Bay FM report on Byron Shire councillor Alan Hunter’s court case – against his own council – ended abruptly last week after Cr Hunter became agitated and hung up –Trump style. He didn’t seem to like the questions from Jim Beatson. Cr Hunter is clearly feeling the heat over his plans to expand his rural self-storage operations, against strong neighbour opposition. Negotiations between Council’s general manager and Cr Hunter

continue behind closed doors with his fellow councillors apprently incapable of making their own decision. The Bay FM interview is available at http://bit.ly/2uTUZkN. Q Q Q Q

L o c a l Ru s s i a n c h oi r Dustyesky, known for their songs of solidarity which they cannot themselves even understand, took the Russian Community Centre by storm in Brizneyland last week. It was the first performance by the lads before a Russianspeaking audience. The choir’s longstanding dream is to perform in Russia, preferably during the Football Cup 2018. However, to implement such a grandiose plan, Dustyesky needs appropriate assistance and support from interested sponsors. Backlash hears the crew of the SBS television channel expressed interest in accompanying the choir during any future trip across Russia to shoot a documentary.

In case you missed it, it’s not just the US where politics is rapidly disintegrating. Surely alarm bells would have rung with the first few heads on the dual-citizenship chopping block? Paul Keating apparently said of Trumbull that while he’s brilliant, ‘he’s got no judgment’. For a self-made millionaire – who stashes his tax-free odd $200m in the Cayman Islands – Trumbull appears to have very little spine for taking on the loonies in his party. He has much less to lose than they do, and throughout his uneventful leadership continues

to fold on once-held beliefs and principles.
