Main Street Burger Bar The Main Street ‘Spicy Buttermilk Chook’

Tasty goodness in a bun

Once upon a time a young team of formidable fried chicken fanatics (aka the Main Street squad) kidnapped the original ‘King of Chicken’, Colonel Sanders himself. Through force and threat he helped us create a unique finger-lickin’ buttermilk marinade deep within the top-secret confines of the Main Street Burger Bar test lab.

EL DUDERINO Vegan vegetable pattie with nuts and fresh herbs, crunchy sea-vegetable noodles, sprouts, mixed lettuce and tomato with Tiger Thai Sauce on a vegan bun. Well known for our deluxe meat burgers, but also vegetarian and vegan options, we wanted to create another yummy vegan treat for the International Hamburger Day. Chef and creator Lumiar Ramos Rodrigues: ‘I was inspired by my little son to always make the tastiest vegan meals with different combinations of flavours and textures, using the best range of fresh veges, nuts and herbs.’ This from a burger joint? Yes, absolutely! We love to create healthy food that tastes sexy – there is so much more to a burger than just meat! But hey, if you are a meat eater, that’s all good – we get the best organic beef from our local butcher. Anyway, if you try El Duderino, you won’t regret it – promised!

Behind the burger When we were deciding on what burger to put on our menu, we first thought what we like to eat and not to over-complicate it; keep it simple. Just use good-quality ingredients and make sure it’s juicy and it’s a great tavern feed enjoyed with a cold beer. And we make a cracking ketchup!

You can get a great range of healthy burgers in Australia According to a recent study by the NPD Group, hamburgers are becoming one of the most popular dishes in France, a country otherwise renowned for its haute cuisine. In fact, the study says that three quarters of all French food establishments now sell at least one hamburger, and 80 per cent of those say it’s their best-selling item. In Australia in 2015 we consumed nearly three times as many hamburgers per capita as they do in France. According to the NPD Group, ‘If in France we have reached 14 burgers consumed per person per year, the UK

is on 20, the US on 30 and Australia on 38’, and, Australians, the chances are that you will have fries with that. Of course, not all burgers are equally as bad as the low-cost offerings served up by your local Hungry Jack’s, Burger King or McDonald’s, and if you’re an Australian you now have the choice of a great range of healthy burgers from a number of independent outlets – so choose wisely!
