Dangerous needle users: we almost dropped a stitch when we saw that last week the cops visited the Knitting Nannas Against Gas engaged in their vicious vigil outside newly-reelected MP Thomas George’s office in Lismore. The officers advised these thugs of the perils of purl one and purl two and of blocking the footpath with comfy cardigans. Perhaps George got the hump with the nannas asking him about his ever-vacillating opinion on CSG and required three custodians of the peace to help him out. Photo from the Nannas’ Facebook page.

As we go into National Youth Week (April 10–19), it’s a shame there’s still a cloud over government funding for the Byron Youth Service (http:// bys.org.au), which has been helping, entertaining and educating local youth for 20 years. Talented young people got together to help out at the Spirit Of The Bay 2 twilight concert on the weekend, which you can see in Sharon Shostak’s video at www.echo. net.au/2015/04/byron-youthrally-to-save-centre. Mullum experienced its own version of surround sound

last Thursday when there was a busker on every corner of the main intersection, creating a melange of musical styles at the centre point – where you could have safely stood without being hit by a car back in the 1970s. Most people enjoy a bit of music on the streets but we have received some complaints about the levels of amplification. If you need to amplify – and practically in all cases Backlash believes you don’t – try to keep it at a tolerable level so people can still enjoy their conversations.

The news that the Federal Court has ordered internet provider iiNet to hand over details of its customers who illegally downloaded the movie Dallas Buyers Club probably ran a chill wind over over Australia’s happy band of downloaders still waiting for timely delivery of bingewatchable series. However the highly articulate Communications Alliance CEO John Stanton – in an interview with Sabra Lane of ABC’s 7.30

Report http://ab.co/1ac9tgs – explained that the court had put restrictions on what the aggrieved producers could demand of downloaders. In America movie providers had engaged in ‘speculative invoicing’ through legal letters, asking downloaders for amounts such as $7,000 for a product worth $20. It’s about time we started speculatively invoicing some of the big corporations for desecrating the environment and generally being litigious dickheads. (Dallas Buyers Club is a great movie, by the way.)
