TAURUS: If others push you to move quicker than is comfortable this week, wait till the timing feels right – you’ll know when. Take the space to alter pace as autumn equinox brings you to a crossroads, a change of mind, heart or direction. The recognition of a missing link’s your key.

J

GEMINI: Your curious nature added to this week’s dazzling distractions makes it hard to stay focused, especially with outgoing, extrovert Twin in overdrive around midweek Gemini moon. But as interest levels sizzle, then fizzle, inner Twin has some wise advice to keep you grounded and balanced, so listen to your intuition.

CANCER: Sure there’s heat in this week’s astrological kitchen, but its fiery influx also warms your heart for a fresh new start. Despite bossy, hot-tempered types, this is a highly motivated time – don’t waste it on energydraining clashes. Maintain emotional stability by regular defusing with your favourite soothers.

M

SAGITTARIUS: Saturn retrograde in your sign suggests reassessing your present status, deleting what doesn’t work and improving your product, content, service, strategies and/or organisation. Rather than take on something new, it’s advisable to hone what’s on your plate. And deal with frustrations straight up, before you reach snapping point.

N

CAPRICORN: With Capricorn’s planetary ruler Saturn retrograde, it’s worthwhile taking regular time out to process and integrate changes as they happen – which will give you a solid, rational foundation to cope with unexpected upsets and sudden reshuffles. And if you’re called on for quick decisions, to know they’re your best.

O

P

LEO: The cosmic kettle heats this week to bubble bubble here comes trouble – also a sexy simmer that ignites your Leo fire and remakes life into a splendid adventure. Its less fabulous attributes are erratic activity, irritable attitudes, eyebrow-raising flare-ups and emotional agitation, during which uber-cool is very definitely advised. VIRGO: Naturally you Virgos are far too savvy to be taken in, like some, by this week’s inflated promises, exaggerated claims or pushy personalities making a big deal out of nothing much. If unexpected events require split-second decisions, use your Mercurian ingenuity to steer problems towards positive, even profitable, results. LIBRA: While you might feel inclined to race and pick up the pace, this week’s made for celebrating. Venus your ruling planet’s in sensual, sensuous Taurus. It’s autumn equinox. Plus the sun moves into Aries, your opposite on the astrological wheel. Three good reasons to party – though do Librans ever need any?

L

SCORPIO: This week presses the start button on a potent, potentially turbulent broth of frothing possibilities as too-much-responsibility, too-little-reward scenarios are reassessed. Biggest no-no? Getting stuck in old, reactive behaviour patterns. Best dance steps? Recycling mistakes into learning curves and moving on through new windows of opportunity.

COMEDY VIRGINS IN MULLUM! The latest crop of new standup comedians are ready. This time it’s a smaller yield, with only six people stepping up on the night, but Mandy Nolan believes they are six pretty amazing new comics. ‘These guys have really raised the bar with their routines,’ says Nolan, who has been teaching standup comedy with Byron Shire Adult Education for 18 years. ‘We have had a hoot each week, which to me is always a sign about what is in store on the night!’ The comedy hopefuls get to graduate from their six-week standup comedy course by sharing their five-minute routines of comedy genius at the Mullumbimby ExServices on Sunday night from 7pm. Tix are $10 at the door!

BIG GIRLS’ GIG It was International Women’s Day on 8 March so it seems only fitting that some of the mouthiest mamas should take to the stage for the March edition of Ballina’s long-running comedy sensation The Big Gig. Jenny Wynter is a force of nature. Comedian, MC and cabaret performer, this energetic mother of three is known for her spontaneous and often very interactive style of comedy. Jenny doesn’t like to pick on her audience; when she chats it’s about making them feel like a star – with this very clever musical improviser making up comedy songs on the spot based on their input. From a love song to a tribute to their occupation, no two shows

AQUARIUS: First western new year, then eastern new year, now finally astrological new year as the sun flaring into Aries gives your year its bearings to rev full steam ahead. Yowza! Get ready for your attitude towards others to undergo a refresher course as understandings of complex interactions deepen.

PISCES: This week’s about active engagement. People won’t gloss over inconvenient truths, so expect to be called on whatever you might have let slide. Or for your opinions and feelings to be met with reason and data. Stepping out of judgment and defensiveness helps open the road to negotiation and reconciliation.

A natural, born storyteller Ellen has the knack of weaving a twisted tale, always delivered with a surprising sting in its tail!

Big Gig – with 10 kids between them, a vat of peroxide and a few ex-husbands, these girls know how to rock your boat!

The biggest blond breeder of them all, Mandy Nolan, heads up as the regular MC.

Thursday, 8pm, Ballina RSL. Free.

JENNY WYNTER AT THE BIG GIG IN BALLINA ON THURSDAY are ever the same, leaving the audience united and excited by their one-off special performance. Jenny honed her skills in the US, where she toured her standup, and throughout Canada, and was invited to be a MainStage cast member with the world-renowned improv company Loose Moose Theatre. In 2011 she was supported by the Ian Potter Cultural Trust to train in solo and musical improv in LA with renowned experts Gary Austin and Michael Pollock.

PEACH ELIAS

A solo show featuring new paintings by local artist Peach Elias opens on Saturday 14 March, 6–8pm at Gallery Cosmosis, 2/22 Brigantine St, Arts & Industry Estate, Byron Bay. Recent works are abundant in colour, subject, media and size. Jenny’s award-winning solo varied show was directed by Austin, who is an LA comedy legend known for launching comedy greats such as Will Ferrell and Lisa Kudrow. Jenny is joined by support act Ellen Briggs. This mother of twins has made a name for herself on the comedy circuit as the woman Trevor Hendy refers to as ‘the funniest comedian I have ever seen’.
