Whitehaven Coal says it will start building its Maules Creek coal mine within weeks. Two protesters out of a group of around 100 chained themselves to a truck in midDecember to try to stop work at Maules Creek and were arrested by police. Earlier on, 75-year-old protester Raymond McLaren was cut free from a car he was chained to on an access road to the site and fined $420.
