2021 Friend of 4-H

Phil Hurtt began his passion for 4-H as a 10-year 4-H club member. He continued as a 4-H advisor for the Clarksburg Jolly Feeders Club for 43 years. Generations of 4-H’ers were impacted by Phil’s encouragement, knowledge, and gentle teasing. A face well known by members, parents, and fair friends for his efforts organizing fair camping during his 27 years on Senior Fair Board. But, Phil did so much more. He helped behind the scenes with many 4-H and Jr. Fair events. As a Swine Superintendent for decades, he often was the one taking care of invisible projects that kept things in the hog barn running smoothly during his years as a Swine Barn Superintendent. Phil went above and beyond to assist in every way he could from double-checking tag-in supplies, teaching Quality Assurance, to serving on the Ross County Jr. Fair Building Fund committee. Phil modeled having an attitude and action of selfless service. We recognize Phil as the Ross County 4-H Friend of 4-H and hope his legacy lives on to encourage others to continue the path he blazed, to constantly give back to his community, and to believe in investing in our youth.
