Those words were written by DJ’s Editor-In-Chief, in sorrow, yet also as a tribute to the overwhelming response from Jeddahwis of all ages who came together to transform tragedy into triumph during those painful days after the floods. Join DJ in our remembrance of the 1st anniversary of the Jeddah floods, but also celebrate with us the numerous volunteer groups that exist all over the city – some have been in the public eye, but many others work selflessly in anonymity. It’s when ordinary people perform extraordinary deeds that true kindness and compassion can flourish. Pure hearts full of inspiration to alleviate poverty, to clean up the environment, to heal the sick...this is the heart of Jeddah. Perhaps these tales of local heroes will inspire you too to take action. Let Jeddah’s motto be ‘inspiration, motivation, participation’ – enjoy!
