A Southern Thang to Make You Laugh Out Loud Orange Community Playhouse’s “Dixie Swim Club” celebrates Southern culture and female friendships in the most “Steel Magnolias” way, resulting in a chick-flick for the stage and a must-see for Southeast Texans. Five Southern women, whose friendships began on the college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge their relationships, free from husbands, kids and jobs. Each year they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. With self-deprecating humor they discuss topics from multiple marriages to multiple cosmetic surgeries, to the lure of younger men, to the disastrous outcomes of unwise choices and unfortunate offspring. Director Diana Hill, with assistant director John Gray, brings this Jones, Hope, Wooten (three writers who worked on TV’s “Golden Girls”) story of five unforgettable women to life casting five remarkable Southeast Texas women: Kristen Campbell, director of wholesale at YaYa Club Clothing Company Angie Hill-McClelland, founder of YaYa Club Clothing Company, wife and mother of three Tanya Guillotte, lead over the DuPont CCMS Contract Administration Group Codie Vasquez, chief operating officer/acting executive director of Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas Janet Bland, teacher at Bridge City Intermediate School and dyslexia designee/instructor Keri Anne Foreman, (understudy) full-time mother of seven children and student; also a board member of Orange Community Playhouse. Performances are Feb. 12-14, 19-21 at 7:37 p.m. and Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include wine at intermission. Call 409.882.9137 or go online to www.orangecommunityplayers.com.
