On behalf of our service members, defense civilians, retirees, and military families – thank you for making us a part of this great celebration. We are excited to be a part of our country’s largest night parade – Fiesta Flambeau(R)!

In addition to our Fiesta Military Ambassadors taking part in the procession, we will have entries from different military organizations and music provided by our military bands. Greeting Welcome to the Fiesta FlambeauÂŽ Night Parade! Since 1948 this parade has been lighting the streets of downtown San Antonio and entertaining crowds for generations. Today, the Fiesta FlambeauÂŽ parade has grown into one of the largest illuminated night parades in the world!

Greeting Greetings, As Mayor of the City of San Antonio, I would like to welcome everyone to FiestaÂŽ 2015!

FiestaÂŽ generates $300 million for the economy of San Antonio - the biggest event in the city by far - and I am proud to say that it embodies the true spirit of San Antonio: fun, diverse, and with a big heart.

This year, we have more than 100 events taking place over 11 days. These events would not be possible without the FiestaÂŽ 6DQ $QWRQLR &RPPLVVLRQ PRUH WKDQ QRQSURÂżWV 75,000 volunteers and dedicated sponsors. These individuals make FiestaÂŽ a resounding success year after year.

I encourage everyone, residents and visitors alike, to get out and experience FiestaÂŽ! With so many events, there is something for everyone. John QuiĂąones 2015 Fiesta FlambeauÂŽ Parade Grand Marshall John QuiĂąones is the Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC newsmagazine “Primetimeâ€? and has been with the network nearly 30 years.

He is the sole anchor of the “Primetime� series “What Would You Do?,� one of the highest-rated newsmagazine franchises of recent years.

During his tenure he has reported extensively for ABC News, predominantly serving as a correspondent for “Primetime� and “20/20.�

QuiĂąones’ work for “What Would You Do?â€? captures people’s reactions when confronted with dilemmas compelling them to either act or walk away. He has extensively covered a religious sect in Northern Arizona that forces its young female members to take part in polygamous marriages.

Other reports include going undercover with a hidden camera to reveal how clinics were performing unnecessary surgical procedures as part of a major nationwide insurance scam; he followed along with a group of would-be Mexican immigrants as they attempted to cross into the U.S. via the treacherous route known as “The Devil’s Highway�; and he traveled to Israel for a CINE Award-winning report about suicide bombers.

QuiĂąones has won seven national Emmy Awards for his “Primetime Live,â€? “Burning Questionsâ€? and “20/20â€? work. He was awarded an Emmy for his coverage of the Congo’s virgin rainforest, which also won the Ark Trust Wildlife Award, and in 1990 he received an Emmy for “Window in the Past,â€? a look at the Yanomamo Indians. He received a National Emmy Award for his work on the ABC documentary “Burning Questions—The Poisoning of America,â€? which aired in September 1988, and was also honored with a World Hunger Media Award and a Citation from the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards for “To Save the Children,â€? his 1990 report on the homeless children of Bogota. Among his other prestigious awards are the First Prize in International Reporting and Robert F. Kennedy Prize for his piece on “Modern Slavery -Children Sugar Cane Cutters in the Dominican Republic.â€? In 2005, the Smithsonian Museum’s exhibit, "Our Journeys/ Our Stories: Portraits of Latino Achievement," named QuiĂąones as one of the 25 most prominent Latinos in the U.S. ,Q 4XLxRQHV ZDV WKH ÂżUVW UHSRUWHU RXW RI WKH MRXUQDOLVWV ZKR FRYHUHG WKH &KLOHDQ 0LQLQJ GLVDVWHU WR JHW an exclusive interview with one of the survivors. In September 1999, QuiĂąones anchored a critically acclaimed ABC News special entitled “Latin Beat,â€? focusing on the wave of Latin talent sweeping the U.S., the impact of the recent population explosion and how it will affect the nation as a whole. He was awarded an ALMA Award from the National Council of La Raza. He also contributed reports to ABC News’ unprecedented 24-hour, live, global Millennium broadcast, which won the George Foster Peabody Award. He was honored with a Gabriel Award for his poignant report that followed a young man to Colombia, as he made an emotional journey to reunite with his birth mother after two decades.

QuiĂąones joined ABC News in June 1982 as a general assignment correspondent based in Miami, providing reports for “World News Tonight with Peter Jenningsâ€? and other ABC News broadcasts. He was one of the few American journalists reporting from Panama City during the U.S. invasion in December 1989. During the ‘80s he spent nearly a decade in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama reporting for “World News Tonight.â€?

Prior to joining ABC News, he was a reporter with WBBM-TV in Chicago. He won two Emmy Awards for his 1980 reporting on the plight of illegal aliens from Mexico. From 1975 to 1978 he was news editor at KTRH radio in Houston, Texas. During that period, he also was an anchor-reporter for KPRC-TV. Quiùones received a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communications from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, Texas. He received a Masters from the Columbia School of Journalism. He received the 2010 Outstanding Alumni Award from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and his coverage on the African Congo was named one of the 50 greatest stories by a graduate in the last 100 years.

Mission Statement The purpose of the Fiesta FlambeauÂŽ Parade Association Inc., hereafter known as the Association, shall be to plan, organize, produce, and stage the Fiesta FlambeauÂŽ Parade annually during Fiesta San Antonio. The Association shall do so to enhance the celebration for the San Antonio community and its visitors.

Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier 2015 Fiesta FlambeauŽ Parade Honorary Grand Marshal 'U 0DULD +HUQDQGH] )HUULHU VHUYHV DV 'LUHFWRU RI WKH QHZO\ FUHDWHG 7H[DV $ 0 2I¿FH of Mexico Relations. From 2008 until January 15, of this year, Dr. Ferrier served as the inaugural President for Texas A&M University-San Antonio. In this position, she provided leadership for the University’s recent growth and development as a self-standing University. As President and CEO, Dr. Ferrier provided on-site executive direction of academic, administrative, and student services; vision and guidance in strategic planning, collaboration with external constituencies (including the local community, business, and state leaders); and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Prior to coming to the Texas A&M University-San Antonio, she held many prestigious positions, including her appointment in 2002 by President George W. Bush DV 'LUHFWRU IRU WKH 2IÂżFH RI (QJOLVK /DQJXDJH $FTXLVLWLRQ IRU /LPLWHG (QJOLVK 3URÂżFLHQW 6WXGHQWV LQ WKH 8QLWHG 6WDWHV 'HSDUWPHQW RI (GXFDWLRQ 'XULQJ KHU WHQXUH DW WKH 8 6 'HSDUWPHQW RI (GXFDWLRQ VKH ZDV SURPRWHG WZLFH ÂżUVW WR 'HSuty Under Secretary, and then to Assistant Deputy Secretary. Upon her return from our nation’s capitol, Dr. Ferrier served as Executive Director for External Funding of the Southwest Independent School District and the Executive Director for the Southwest Independent School District’s Education Foundation.

From 1995 to 2002, Maria served as founding Executive Director of City Year, a national service organization that became the model for the now federally funded program known as AmeriCorps. In 2008, she was appointed Executive Director of the then- Texas A&M University – Kingsville System Center at San Antonio, through its designation as a stand-alone university in May 2009.

Maria is a native San Antonian and has served in San Antonio public schools for 20 years. She has received numerous awards for her work with underserved student populations including the Hispanic Heritage Award, US Department of Labor; Women of Action Award, La Prensa; National Hispanic Corporate Achievers Award, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Life of Idealism Award, City Year and has been inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame.

Elizabeth Ruiz Mistress of Ceremonies Elizabeth Ruiz is the morning drive news anchor at News Talk 550 KTSA Radio. She also hosts “On the Scene with 15” on Catholic Television of San Antonio and has covered City Hall, the Bexar County Courthouse and police beats during the past 34 years at KTSA/KTFM. She’s one of the city’s most community-involved media personalities in San Antonio and you’ll often see her serving as emcee at Fiesta Events, charitable fundraisers and City Parks and Recreation programs at the Arneson River Theater. Liz is a former teacher and served as choir director and assistant band director at Burbank High School for four years before pursuing a career in radio broadcasting. She enjoys singing at church and with mariachis and has sung the National Anthem at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, as well as Spurs games. Fiesta San Antonio has been a longtime tradition for Liz, who attended many Fiesta parades and events when she was a child.

She marched in Fiesta parades as a twirler with the John. F. Kennedy High School Rocket Band and while attending college she taught twirling lessons and her twirling corps participated in the Fiesta Flambeau.

She’s a product of the Edgewood School District and is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. In 1977, she was part of Fiesta Royalty, wearing the crown of Miss Kelly Air Force Base.

Liz graduated Cum Laude with a music degree from Trinity University in 1975 and as an assistant band director at Burbank High School; she accompanied the Bulldog Band in the Fiesta Flambeau. She later earned an associate’s degree in Journalism and Radio-TV-and-Film from San Antonio College. She’s a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, Edgewood Hall of Fame, the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame, Image de San Antonio Outstanding Hispanic Woman Role Model and is a recipient of the governor’s “Yellow Rose of Texas” award. Liz also is a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists. She was the 2009 United Way of Bexar County Volunteer of the Year in Cultural Arts, La Prensa’s Women in Action Award Recipient and has been named one of San Antonio College’s 75 Most Distinguished Alumni.

John A. Martinez 2015 Fiesta FlambeauŽ Parade Association Medal Artist John A. Martinez is a professional artist in San Antonio, Texas and is owner of JAM Fine Art, Designs and Signs with his wife of 28 years, Gloria. He has accumulated over 40 years of painting large scale murals and renderings. In the 80’s, John was Art Director and painting supervisor for Rollins Outdoor Advertising which is now Clear Channel. His duties included hand painted large renderings of products, TV and radio personalities that are now produced by large format computerized printers. Since opening JAM Designs in 1988, his work is in many local establishments such as Mi Tierra, USAA, La Margarita, Pearl Properties and many others. John has IXUWKHUHG KLV VNLOO DQG HGXFDWLRQ E\ DWWHQGLQJ ZRUNVKRSV ZLWK KLJKO\ VXFFHVVIXO ¿QH DUWLVWV VXFK as Warren Hunter, John Pototschnik, Martin Grelle, Bruce Greene, and Greg Glowka. He currently teaches an art class every Thursday at Harold’s Art to artists from beginners to seniors who love to learn about art and oil painting. John showcases his paintings in the annual Alamo Kiwanis Western Heritage Art Show where a percentage of the selling of art goes to children’s charities. A current piece was on display at The Institue of Texan Cultures Museum for the Dia De Los Muertos event this November. His sculpting abilities can be seen throughout San Antonio RQ WKH 'DYLV /DZ )LUP ELOOERDUGV ZLWK WKH ' H\HEDOOV DQG ' KDQG VKRZLQJ ¿QJHUV -RKQœV other passion is music. He plays several instruments and has composed many original songs.

Marcelino F. Villanueva 2015 Fiesta FlambeauÂŽ Parade Association Poster Artist Local Artist, Marcelino F. Villanueva Jr., recalls his love for art at a very young DJH Âł, ZDV IDVFLQDWHG WKDW , KDG WKH DELOLW\ WR GUDZ REMHFWV ZLWK QR GLIÂżFXOW\ ´ VD\V Marcelino, “Also as a young child I always wanted to be an artist.â€? Throughout his middle and high school days his artwork was always recognized, he credits Rudy Trevino, his Art instructor at Lanier High School, for teaching him to paint in different media’s. After having completed a two year course in advertising at San Antonio College. he began his career in 1979. With experience in advertising, designing, marketing and illustrating. Currently employed at the San Antonio Express-News as computer graphics artist for the past 28 years.
