Rare Vespasian Coin Die!

2202. Early modem cast fake. "Roman" JE "Sestertius" (50.60 gm). PIETAS AVGVSTORVM, III ET II COS, Confronted laureate draped busts of Philip I and II / MARCIA OTACIL SEVERA AVG, Draped bust of Otacilia Severa right. Near VF, dark brown patina. ($150)

2199. Roman. Vespasian obverse die. 69-79 AD. Circa 74-79 AD. Largest dimensions 18mm χ 30mm. Bronze obverse (anvil) die for an aureus or denarius in the form of a cushion-shaped torus. Cf. RIC 123124. Well preserved, green patina, some encrustation on face. ($1000) This die is said to have been found in Yugoslavia. The central edge projection may have been intended to fix the die in the anvil, or may be a casting sprue retained from the original mold. Yugoslavia was an area of constant military recruitment and activity. Its apparentfindspotindicates that dies manufactured in Rome were exported, along ivith bullion, to the appropriate "provincia", or field of action. Specie could then be made when and in whatever amount necessary to serve the needs of the army.

2200. " P A D U A N " after Giovanni Cavino. 1500-1570. Augustus. /E "Sestertius" (29.94 gm). Laureate head left / Two capricorns on globe supporting wreath inscribed OB/CIVES/SER in three lines. Klawans pp. 22-23, 1 (same dies). VF, bold chocolate brown patina with green highlights. Later cast. ($150)

AV 2203. RUSSIA. Baptismal Medal. Circa early 19th Century. AV 53mm (32.64 gm). BOCKPECEHIE-XPICTOBO, Christ standing facing, surmounting a cloud, holding Evangelical banner and gesturing / St. John the Baptist standing left, holding banner and baptizing Christ, kneeling right, dove of the Holy Spirit above; city view behind. Penningen 2024. VF, light waving, scratches, and a test mark ($1000)
