1. Assemble your paper lantern by following the instructions in your pack. Paint it red using acrylic paint. Allow to dry. 2. Cut strips of red, orange, and yellow paper measuring 4 x 29.7cm. You’ll need 3 strips of each colour.

4. Use a glue stick and apply glue to the top of a yellow strip. Place the orange strip over the top. Apply glue to the top of the orange strip and place the red over the top. Repeat for the other two groups of strips. Allow to dry. 5. Sketch “2022” onto your lantern. Trace over the numbers using PVA glue and sprinkle gold glitter over the top. Allow to dry.

7. Join the ends of the third frill group to create a circle. Apply glue to the rim along the crease. Attach to the top of your lantern. Allow to dry. 8. Thread gold yarn through the top of the lantern and tie a knot to create a hanger. Attach a gold tassel to the bottom of your lantern using a cow hitch knot. 3. Fold the strips in half along the long edge to crease the middle, then unfold. Cut small frills about 2-5mm wide, stopping at the creased centre. Repeat for all the paper strips.

6. Place one group of paper frills onto the lantern so it sits under the numbers. Place a second group of frills on the opposite side of the lantern to complete the circle. You may need to adjust how the paper curves and sits on the lantern. Secure with glue and allow to dry.

9. Your Chinese New Year Lantern is now ready to display!
