Chinese New Year

On Friday 20thJanuary the boarding and resident community celebrated Chinese New Year, welcoming in the Year of the Rabbit. It was wonderful to welcome back a number of former boarders to the dinner, exchange news and reminisce on their boarding experiences.

The conservatory was decorated in red, and Chartwells prepared an array of dishes. Following the Chinese feast, Thomas, a Lower Sixth boarder from Harsnett’s House, spoke about the meaning of the Spring festival and New Year traditions such as people cleaning their houses before the Chinese New Year to get rid of bad luck, and children receiving red envelopes full of money instead of wrapped gifts.
