Mission of the Fellowship

The Castilleja Catalyst for Equity and Inclusion Fellowship supports the recruitment, retention, and development of underrepresented teaching candidates of color at Castilleja. Fellows engage in a three-year comprehensive program that ultimately serves to foster a more culturally responsive community.

Context

Following the death of George Floyd, a collective of Black alumnae formed CBAA (Castilleja Black Alumnae Association) to urge the school to move towards greater equity and a safer and more responsive learning environment for students of color. In response to, and in support of the CBAA’s urging, an alumna donated a generous gift to create an endowed fellowship to support the recruitment of underrepresented communities of color. In addition, EPOC, Castilleja’s employee people of color affinity group, will serve as another resource.
