Prosecutors at a Burnaby murder trial intend to prove Ibrahim Ali attacked a 13-year-old girl on a trail inside Central Park, dragged her into the bushes, sexually assaulted her and strangled her to death.

After multiple delays in the trial, which began in BC Supreme Court inVancouver on April 5, prosecutor Isobel Keeley outlined the Crown’s theory of the case in an opening statement Friday (April 28)

Ali is on trial for first-degree murder in the death of the girl, whose body was found in Central Park on July 19, 2017.

Ali, who was 28 years old at the time of the girl’s death, has pleaded not guilty

The victim cannot be identified because of a publication ban.
