The Märta Måås–Fjetterström atelier’s 100 year jubilee Märta Måås–Fjetterström founded her atelier in Båstad 1919. Since then, Måås–Fjetterström and her studio have become world–famous. There is no other textile artist in the 20th century who has had such an impact on textile and carpet art as Måås–Fjetterström. Constantly taking her designs to new levels makes Märta Måås–Fjetterström an unique artist. She took inspiration from a wide range of eras and styles, from old Nordic ornaments, medieval patterns, ancient legends, folk art, art nouveau, to colourful Oriental carpets and art deco. There is no other textile artist with such a wide variety of motives in carpet, tapestry and textile designs as Märta Måås–Fjetterström. Among Måås–Fjetterström’s skills were her ability to see the effect her designs would have on people. To her, a carpet was a piece of art in itself, not just an interior decoration. While Märta Måås–Fjetterström was a master of patterns, her successor, Barbro Nilsson’s strenght was in colours and her way of combining them. Barbro Nilsson also managed to enrol several textile artists to the studio, such as Marianne Richter. Among the artists who worked in the studio were also Barbro Sprinchorn, Ann-Mari Forsberg and Kaisa Melanton. Bukowskis congratulates Märta Måås–Fjetterström AB on the 100 year jubilee!

An unusually interesting and one of the biggest tasks for Barbro Nilsson was an order in 1966 from Sydsvenska Kraft AB. The company wished for seven tapestries to the entrance hall in their building in Malmö, in southwestern Sweden. She created seven different tapestries with the theme of Bäckahästen, an ancient mythological animal common in Swedish folk art textiles. The tapestries show the Bäckahäst rushing through air, clouds, rain, water, sun – all elements that create natural forces which the mythological horse symbolizes. Barbro Nilsson succeed in designing the tapestries to be greatly powerful, colourful and each one very different from each other. Now Bukowskis is proud to get the assignment to sell the collection.

Swedish Modern In Sweden, the early 1930's functionalist movement's primary goal was to create a good environment for the modern people. Alongside with the discussion among the scholars, the crafts industry and the Swedish furniture manufacturing companies gradually developed into something new. Eventually it gave the result that the program declaration from the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition did not only become a theory but a reality for more and more people. From the early 1940's, Swedish homes and interiors were adapted to a more modern way of life and living. The Swedish modernism, often described as a bit softer and perhaps more humanistic form of modernism, which among other things was shown both in Paris 1937, and two years later in New York in 1939, has come to be called Swedish Modern. The emphasis was on developing utilitarian wares and works of art for everyday use, combined with an innovative design. During

the 1940's it was yet again in the production of luxury wares that most of theinnovative ideas appeared. The new way of creating cosy and comfortable interiors that emerged in Sweden during the late 1930's and 1940's is something that characterizes the Scandinavian way of furnishing even today. Examples of designers and architects working within Swedish Modern are Bruno Mathsson, GA–Berg, Elias Svedberg, Carl–Axel Acking, Carl Malmsten and not least Josef Frank. With a few words, Swedish Modern is regarded as a softer and more pleasant form of modernism.
