One of the most difficult tasks each year is to write the opening letter, so I’m going to start it a bit different this year. Thank you! Thanks to our many customers, old and new, without you we couldn’t do what we do. It has been an incredible journey to this point for us, and I feel as though we are just starting to get warmed up. I could not possibly be more energized or excited about the future of agriculture. There is so much opportunity in my mind, with a dwindling population of food producers; the future is bright for those of us who want to do it. I heard a quote that sums thing up pretty well….You need a farmer three times a day… Today’s farmer, rancher, beef producer is one of the most highly skilled highly educated people out there. Educated in common sense, work ethic, and family values. Educated in stewardship of the land, animal husbandry, geneticist, mechanics, meteorologist, accounting and computer skills, the list goes on and on. We salute you all, and we are awfully proud to say not only are we farmers, but a fourth generation farming family. October 14 marks our 9th annual Pasture Treasures Fall Female Sale & Customer Appreciation Day. Our family would like to extend this invitation to join us for this fun filled event. I can’t stress enough this isn’t just a sale. It’s an event for the entire family. This year’s sale offering is extremely diverse, and perhaps one of the strongest sets we’ve ever presented. Our own offering will consist of all bred heifers for the live lots and a couple unique frozen section lots. Our guest consignors have really bought into the fact we want to bring the best of the best, and have dug in extra deep, you’ll see what I’m talking about as you get further into the catalogue. The consignor’s lots will all consist of heifer calves or solid young bred cows, diversity at its finest. No doubt some prep work will have been done to get these cattle ready, but for the most part they will be coming off the grass in working rig, presented how you will see them the other 364 days of the year. We realize you have choices out there, and are always looking for what can set us apart from the pack. We are thrilled to be teamed up with Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd again this year, for the Boehringer/Anchor D rewards program, and to be recognized as one of four herds in all of Canada to fall into their elite herd health status is an honor. Last years Anchor D Ranch Sired calf sales were a success, and will be back once again this year Friday, October 7 @ VJV Dawson Creek, BC & Wednesday, October 19 @ VJV Ponoka. Our intent is to offer as much service to you our customer in hopes that your hard work and efforts will be rewarded. Anyone needing additional details please contact us anytime. Please be sure to join us Friday, October 14. Cattle Viewing anytime sale day, supper at 5:30, sale at 7 and live entertainment to follow. Bring your campers or grab a room, it’s going to be a big time!! See you there.

“Kael” is a very deserving lot #1. This is a truly outstanding heifer I have admired since birth, not only for her physical makeup, but her top notched pedigree as well. She is a deep ribbed broody female with beautiful udder development. She is certain to produce herd bulls, combined with calving ease, strong maternal traits, and explosive growth. Her pedigree is genetic art work, tracing back to many of the great ones in our program. I feel her mating to one of our new herd bulls “Precision” will be very complimentary. I appreciate that our sale is one of the earlier ones, however I am very confident in saying this will be a front end female this fall. Exposed to Virginia Precision 16C -1135400- March 21 to May 19. “Elain” is a heifer I appreciate that much more every day. She comes from a stellar cow family in “Miss Arnold”. This is a cow you truly have to appreciate her impact on our program, given the fact that she entered our program at an older age, and was never added into our donor pen. (I don’t know why.) This has quickly become one of our top cow families, and 2 of her granddaughters entered our donor pen this past year. One of those 2 cows is “Martini”, the dam of “High Noon”, and grand dam of this heifer. The other “Unique” you will see a bit later on in the catalogue. “Elain” has a super disposition, much like the whole cow family, is dark red, moderate, and easy fleshing. She will be a great one. I am extremely pleased with the heifers we have representing “Barbossa” this year. His daughters are maturing into being very impressive cows that maintain the calving ease and transmit growth. “Karlie” is yet another female that combines those traits, and is backed by some outstanding cow families. This is as honest of female as you will find. With the likes of Antonius, Meister, Western and Romulus all on the bottom side of her pedigree she can’t help but be a great cow. She is flawless in makeup, and will produce big time. Exposed to Virginia Precision 16C -1135400- March 21 to May 19. Observed bred March 30, ultra sound safe to next cycle, due February 1, 2017.

“Roma” is a very smooth eye appealing dark red smooth polled Fleckvieh heifer that comes from a tremendous cow family. She will be a little finer built than the other 3 “Barbossa” daughters. This is a female that will produce stellar calving ease bulls and wicked good females. Don’t get me wrong you will be able to throw as much power at her as you want. As she will moderate birth weights and refine that front end while still giving you ampule performance. A true diamond in the rough here, going back to the “Desiree” cow family. We are very happy to have added “Precision” into our herd bull battery this past spring. He is sired by Radison, a bull Harry & Michelle Satchwell used in their heifer pen with great success. A bull we appreciated for not only his calving ability, but being able to produce calves from heifers that can contend with the rest of the pack. I feel as though “Precision” should be much the same. With the combination of Radison and Metro, there is certainly calving ease, as well as performance and growth on both sides of his pedigree. As this is his first year we pretty well used him on the Barbossa daughters to be safe, as they do have that extra calving ease cushion, but I look for big things from him in the future.

“Zaylee” will be the lone representative from “Valor”. He was the high seller at Beechinor Bros. bull sale a couple years ago. “Zaylee” comes from the “Miss Arnold” cow family, and her dam is a young female that has become a quick favorite here in her short time. We only had a small number of “Valor” calves, and his son in this springs bull sale brought $13,000 to Bernard Chamberland, and has a full brother this year every bit as good. Honestly the only reason we are willing to part with “Zaylee” is she has a full sister coming up next year that looks just as good. This is likely the feature heifer in the “Mr. Gibbs” sire group. She is picture perfect, very broody and angular, great udder development; there is really nothing to change on her. Her dam is a cow that out produces herself, and has a perfect udder. She has an outcrossed pedigree on the bottom for us. “Sahara” is a female that will continue to develop, and age like a fine wine, as you will appreciate her more and more every day. This year after a brief break we dipped back in the tank and started using “Regis” again. He not only was a bomb proof calving bull for us, but gave us very marketable calves in the process. We’ve had bull customers requesting his calves again, so note they are on the horizon. This will be a great cross. AI’d to Richmond Regis -507260- March 21. Her full sister last year was my personal favorite bred heifer of the whole pen, and has a great bull calf that will be found in our February bull sale. She has the pedigree to back her, from top to bottom, and the “Intuition” daughters are phenomenal. Mark my word this will be a great purchase for someone, and will develop into an outstanding cow with a bright future. She doesn’t have the best picture as she is an absolute pest, and is more concerned about being your friend than standing for a picture. Also note she is one of two heifers bred to another of our new herd bulls this year “Aegon”. We initially had no intensions on selling either of these heifers so let that be a bit of a guide for your decision making process as well. Exposed to Sibelle Aegon 26C -1145913- March 22 to May 19. When I saw “Aegon” walking beside his dam last September, he was a bull we immediately put on our radar. He is a super soft made bull from an outstanding dam. His grand dam is one of the front end cows in the Sibelle herd, and his sire “Kalibner” pretty well sealed the whole deal. He is a 10 year old bull who moves like a cat, has super muscle definition, and a great set of feet and legs. He very well could be one of the best kept secrets of our breed. I have huge expectations for “Aegon” and as I mentioned in the heifers footnotes, we had no intentions on selling heifers bred to him. This makes them just a bit more unique. For the past couple years we have been offering a small amount of semen on one or two of our herd bulls. Our herd bull battery has pretty well remained exclusive, so it’s not like the buyer is competing with tons of progeny out there. This year we decided “Intuition” would be the guy. When I found him, he wasn’t the lead off, high seller, or feature bull, however he was the bull for us. I couldn’t be happier with him, and our “Intuition” paid off, as he has developed into everything we want. He will make them super thick, with excellent muscle shape, huge tops, lots of rib, big footed, dark red with tons of hair. Although he is solid white faced, expect to get more than enough pigmentation. In fact for those of you who seen “Dominance”, one of his sons, at the National YCSA and Alberta YCSA shows, you will remember this polled blaze faced calf that will no doubt be one of our feature bulls this spring. We will offer 2 packages of 10 straws for the 2017 breeding season. Semen is exportable stored at Alta Genetics.

This is the fourth daughter from Polly in a row to sell in our sale with the other two going to Parview Stock Farms, and the second high seller from a couple years ago to Ferme Gagnon. Unfortunately for “Randi” she has short ears, but don’t let that fool you for one minute her dam has been a prolific producer for us and “Randi” will no doubt walk in her footsteps. Her dam was extremely sick when she had “Randi”, so she was a bit malnourished and ended up fending for herself, her weights don’t reflect who she really is. We tried to buy her as a bred heifer but fell just short, so jumped at the opportunity to get some embryos from her when the chance rose up. “Rosie’s” dam was a bit of a family favorite, as she was orphaned at an early age so grew up as a bit of a pet. “Rosie” is simply just a very honest heifer that will be in everyone’s budget. She will be a steady workhorse that will add pounds and power, and carries the polled factor. She won’t be the lead heifer sale day, but will be a very good investment. Having said that, in a few years’ time our intensions with him is to give him a group of front end cows, when we find his equal in the calving pen. Big power. “Zoey” is a performance female designed to create power bulls. If cow families and longevity are on your radar, she combines them both. Her great, great grand dam finally entered the donor pen this past year. She is as sound as they come and still producing, as our oldest cow on the farm coming 17. As a first calver she produced the $14,000 “Narcissus” bull that did such a great job for Stone Simmentals, and just kept producing from there. We have retained every one of her daughters, and everyone is still in the herd including her oldest coming 13. I can’t endorse “Zoey’s” credentials more than that. “Embry” is a heifer I have a bit of a hard time parting with. She is the youngest in this year’s sale, and I expect great things from her. “Windsurfer” typically doesn’t add a bunch of chrome on his offspring; however “Embry” received a great paint job. Her dam is a big bodied solid producing cow we purchased as a calf from the Wild West Dispersal. She is a true workhorse, and I feel her daughter will be much like her being super productive, and putting her own stamp on the progeny. There is more power here than what meets the eye as well, as she gives up an easy 2 months to most of the heifers in this group. A very solid heifer worth a second look. Each year there is that select few that get notched early to be a sale heifer. “Braylin” is a very eye appealing female that should make a huge contribution to the breed. We only have a couple “Epic” daughters in this years sale, but they are simply quite good. Backed by the great “Herlinde” cow family, that is noted for extra longevity. “Braylin’s” grand dam is gone, but we do have a full sister to her that is coming 14 years old this year. If you keep any of our past catalogues no doubt you would have seen me brag about “Sonita” time and time again, (one of my favorite cows) and for an aged cow, has a flawless udder. “Braylin” is a dark red smooth polled heifer that can be bred to about any type of bull you want. She is just as simply sexy as a cow can be and is sure to turn your bulls head. Exposed to Virginia Precision -1135400- March 21 to May 19. Same great cow family backing “Rome” as in “Braylin”. This is one of my favorites in this years sale. “Rome” is a bigger framed performance female that has bull producer written all over her. She is a female that should virtually last forever, with grand dams that both produced well into their late teens (Desiree 18, Hera coming 17 and still going). As a yearling performance wise she ranked #3 out of 71 in that contemporary group. I mentioned to Karen the other day this is a heifer that I really don’t want to see go, having said that if we don’t have those heifers that are hard to part with in the sale we haven’t looked hard enough. I’m not saying she will be the high seller, but I can promise she will produce her fair share of them. Exposed to FGAF Barbossa 707X –P725835- March 21 to May 19. The two “Maximus” heifers we will offer for sale are 3/4 sisters both stemming back to great cow families. “Farren’s” dam is a cow we actually sold as one of the high sellers many years ago at the Bighorn Parkland sale. When Crimson Tide hosted their production sale we purchased her back where she was the lead off lot and high seller. She has been a solid producer for us, and incidentally her daughter in our herd has probably this years top heifer calf, and produced a $13,500 bull calf as a first calver selling to Rocking R Simmentals. “Farren” has the credentials to become a great one. “Barbossa” is the senior citizen in our bull pen. I have been asked numerous times when are we going to sell him or put semen on the market. Our answer to both of those questions is, NOT happening any time soon. The only way to access his progeny or service will be through our sales. “Barbossa” has been so bomb proof for us, he is simply irreplaceable. He once again bred a huge pen of heifers, servicing 50 head, with 2 opens, not bad old fella. I think the fact that we used him on 50 heifers states how much faith we have in him. He is getting some age so we hope his replacement is coming up, but until that point he’s our go to guy in the heifer pen. On the flip side, his calves are awesome. Keep in mind they are virtually from 100% heifers. He had 1 cow last year, resulting in a $17,000 bull, selling to Bar 5. Last years lead off sale heifer was a daughter fetching $13,500 to LaBatte Simmentals. This bull is as good as gold, and shows no sign of slowing down.

With the loss of “Maximus” I had zero intentions on selling any of his daughters this year, however we decided to dig in and find a couple. “Lexus” isn’t his biggest shiniest daughter, but is perhaps the most unique. She is a very attractive female who is dark red and smooth polled. She has lots of refinement and calving ease from the bottom side of her pedigree, and raw power from the top. She is a female that should develop into a future matron, and I am quite certain will leave her mark, much like her grandmother “Elexis”. She is the second heifer to be bred to “Aegon”, and as I had mentioned earlier, our intent was to not sell either of the heifers bred to him. A bit of a sale sleeper, but unique enough we hope you will appreciate her potential. Exposed to Sibelle Aegon 26C -1145913- March 22 to May 19. Colossal, Montana, Epic, Maltese, just a few bulls with a common denominator, “Dorothy Jane.” What can be said about “Dorothy Jane” that hasn’t already been said? We were so fortunate to have owned this great cow. Her contribution to the breed makes her one of the elite, I honestly have no idea how many cattle trace back to her, but I promise its well into the thousands, as she currently has 72 calves registered to her in Canada alone, not to mention one of the top bulls in Ireland and direct progeny in the USA as well. When we speak of our barn as… “The house that Dorothy built”… it is just that. So here is a special opportunity to own a direct daughter. We have a full sister to “Flynn” in our herd that is extra special, and you will see her daughter in the next lot. I realize the birth weight appears a bit torquey, not to worry she comes from a huge recip cow that could birth a baby elephant. Trust me this will be a great cow. She was left on our home pasture until she was preg tested safe, so never got to the good grass until late, but when she shines up this will be one you will be extremely proud of. We believe when it comes to the right herd bull you are always on the market. “French Attack” was on the beautiful hills of Cheneville, and you could instantly tell he was truly special. He’s a bull that show cases all the time. The movement and agility for such a thick deep bodied bull is simply impressive. It’s funny if you’ve ever heard the story of Secretariat, they talked about when people were around he would puff up and show off, I can honestly say French Attack does the same thing. He loves to profile, and he is a big fan of attention so he gets noticed nonstop, as he needs his daily scratch. The day we purchased him, my phone lit up like a Christmas tree. Even though he was 4 provinces away he already had a fan club. I cannot express how excited we are to see his first calves, 2017 calving season will be very exciting to say the least. Although we did sell 3 semen packages sale day, he was never advertised, it was just word of mouth. So we decided we would sell 2 lots of 10 straws in this sale. I know it’s not a lot, however we wish to keep him fairly exclusive. This is an exciting opportunity to get in on something extra special. Semen is exportable - stored at Alta Genetics.

Here is an absolute tank. “Reggie” will be a bull producing machine. Another top cow family, going back to one of our original Fleckvieh based cows we used to start up our red program. I’ve often said the “Ms Western 37A” cow was a cow that didn’t receive the glory she deserved, as this cow always delivered the goods, and generated as many dollars as most of our top cow families. The potential for this female is limitless. I think you will very much appreciate the “Wolfman” females for their balance and structure, and the cross of “Wolfman & King Louie” has been dynamic. This mating will be a home run. Exposed to LFE King Louie 3079Y –PG764779- March 21 to May 19. Observed bred March 23, ultra sound safe, due January 4, 2017.

I honestly never even thought of anything when naming heifers, so I apologize in advance. However this “Hillary” is very honest, what you see is what you get, no smoke and mirrors here. A very soft made female, moderate in stature, lots of hair from an outstanding “Red Wine” daughter. Her dam is one of those female that can moderate birth weights, but bring in the big one in the fall. In fact “Hillary’s” full brother will be a force to be reckoned with in the spring bull sale. This “Hillary” won’t cost you money she will make you money, and she’s actually very nice to look at too. Exposed to LFE King Louie 3079Y –PG764779- March 21 to May 19. We have been very impressed with the “King Louie” calves to this date. His calving ease and the performance and marketability of his offspring has been great. “King Louie” really showed us his value this year when that first set of daughters started producing. I was blown away. These females have super udders, are perfect sized, extremely deep and angular, and they too have moderated birth weight. The cross of “Louie & Wolfman” has been very complimentary. There are a few less services to him this year as there are more of his daughters, combined with the fact that he has now become the senior herd sire for us in our purebred division so he had more work on mature cows. Regardless if you purchase a daughter or a heifer carrying his service expect good things.

We have never had a huge number of black calves from “Wolfman”, but here is one of the two we offer in this years sale. “Meggley” is a bigger framed powerful black heifer. We purchased both her dam and grand dam in a group of cows from Parkhill Ranch. When studying this pedigree there are some very impressive names in the lineage. This will be a very productive heifer that is very maternally oriented, but certainly has enough power to pack the punch. We didn’t have an abundance of “Combustible” calves, but we were very impressed with his calving ability on the ones we did have. If you’re hoping for a black baldie baby, the odds are in your favor here. AI’d to FBF1 Combustible –BPG795931- March 21. Exposed to LFE King Louie 3079Y –PG764779April 15 to May 19. As you can see we did a bit more AI in the purebred pen this year, as our numbers just couldn’t justify one more bull. I really like the mating here as I think this combination will add a bit more frame and style to this super stout made female. Do yourself a favor and ask Darryl about a black baldie first calver he was trying to convince me of putting in the sale. This is her little sister, and is a very similar package at the same age. She is out of our top black cow family, and her grand dam “Moe” is the very first purebred cow to enter our donor pen, combined with the fact she is also the grand dam of “Glacier”. Coincidence? “Shira” may very well be the toughest of the purebred heifers for me to part with. This cow family has been prolific producers for us, and with our program still in the building stages, “Shira” could honestly be a cornerstone female for us. “Shira’s” dam produced “Sonic” who was our high selling purebred bull a few years ago, selling to Rivers Edge Simmentals, she is also the grand dam of “Fortitude” who was one of our feature purebred bulls this spring, going McCormack Family Ranch. Her grand dam has been a no miss cow that has our top black bull calf “Olympus” this year, and shows no sign of slowing down at 15 years old this spring. “Shira” is our only “Bootlegger” daughter, and will leave a gaping hole, but we are committed to bringing the best. She should be moderate and easy fleshing, with an ability to tone down birth weight, and deliver the power at the same time. I anticipate the cross between her and “Glacier” will be super good. “Glacier” was our second high selling bull this spring for $21,000 to Soderglen Ranches. We’ve since purchased half back and he will see split duties as we have two opposite calving seasons. I can’t say enough good things about his dam or grand dam, they are everything you want to see in a cow, and cow family. Being a 1/2 Fleckvieh “Viper” son makes him unique enough, and to come homozygous polled is an absolute bonus. I am super excited about his first calf crop, as I feel they will have lots of style, he should calve well, and the calves should have lots of growth, and I can hardly wait to see the first set of daughters milking. I don’t expect big things for “Glacier”, I expect huge things for him, where the sky is the limit. Thanks again to the great people at Soderglen Ranch for allowing us to be a part of the future in this exciting young bull.

FLUSH LOT Last year was the first year we didn’t have a Treasure Lot. We don’t again this year, but this is as close to it as it gets. We’ve decided to give you the opportunity to purchase a flush from one of our current donor cows that are in production right now. The 3 cows available will be; The rules will be simple; we will offer the right to flush one of these cows to sire of your choice. Buyer is responsible for semen, unless you choose to use one of the Anchor D herd bulls which will be available as well at no additional cost. Anchor D Ranch will assume the cost of the flush. Shipping and handling fees will be the buyers responsibility. We will guarantee 6 viable embryos; anything beyond 10 will be split with Anchor D Ranch with Anchor D receiving odd numbers, and buyer gets even numbers. If six embryos aren’t obtained we will prorate the purchase cost back to buyer, as we can’t guarantee an option to reflush (which may or may not be available), or offer current inventory thats available on that cow if the buyer prefers. Flush will be performed by Janzen Brogan Embryo Services either at Anchor D Ranch or DRI. Export status will be available. Flush is to be done before the end of January 2017, as we would like enough time to breed these cows back for a natural calf. Half deposit sale day, balance due after flush is complete. Guest Consignor - Snider Cattle Services Wow, time has flown by. First we’d like to thank all the folks that supported us at the 2015 Pasture Treasure Sale. It is a great time to be in the cattle business. This year, just like last year, we are dipping deep into the herd to bring some of our best progeny. This time Owen has agreed to sell his Little Man’s Eye Candy 103Z, 2-year old cow, OJ’s True Colour (bred back Cobra), or her Grand Fortune heifer calf, OJ’s Biscuit. This pair has been very successful, both at 4H and at YCS. We hope to see you folks at this outstanding sale, hosted by our friends the Skeel’s Family. We truly appreciate being a part of this sale again this year.

This is the heart of Owen’s operation. OJ True Colour 4B and OJ Biscuit 1D have had an extremely successful show career so far. As a calf, bred and 2 year old, True Colour has been champion every time in 4H and also Overall Female Champion at the District Level. True was the Reserve Calf Champion at YCS, Class winner as a Bred at YCS and Overall Grand Champion Bred and Owned Female this year with Biscuit at the National YCS in Lloydminster. Biscuit is holding her own in the show ring; Champion Bred and Owned heifer at the National YCS, and Reserve Champion Heifer at the Alberta YCS show in Lacombe this summer alone. This pair is honestly remarkable. True is a young cow just starting out and has the opportunity to be a true superstar with a perfect udder, long spine, deep middle, pretty skull, big muzzle and a fancy long neck. True comes from a very long line of GREAT cows, LFE Candy Kisses 39S, the most influential cow in our herd, and 3D Magenta, which is backed by a very strong cow family out of the USA that has given us outstanding calves every year. True is bred to Cobra, a mating that we believe will produce either a beautiful female or a high selling bull. We are so proud of True’s development and the calf she produced this year, Biscuit 1D. Bred to Cobra due Jan 18/17

2016 Junior National Heifer Calf Champion

OJ Biscuit 1D deserves a write up of her own. She is the first Grand Fortune calf to sell in Canada. Biscuit is flawless, and no doubt will become the new owners’ foundation cow to build a herd from. We are not selling Biscuit because she is an average calf, but because we believe she will be a Champion in your herd. Anyone that has been in a pen with Biscuit knows of her outstanding disposition, she loves attention. Biscuit is the type of calf that garners second looks and truly shines in a pen or show ring. Looking at her profile shows her depth of flank and body, but to see how perfectly balanced Biscuit is, you have to watch her on the move! Biscuit has width, great footing and that something special that is rarely seen in a calf this young. She is fancy and will continue growing into something exceptional….We tend to be critical of our own animals but can’t find anything we’d change about Biscuit. Choosing to sell these females has not been an easy decision, but we will only sell our best.

Guest Consignor - Parkhill Ranch I started to write individual footnotes on these great 2 year old cows and I started to see very similar females. They both are half-sisters both out of Les Duncan’s main herd bull, Red Edge 39Y. Both sisters have a big solid foot, long bodied, and are good milking young females. These two females are at the start of their career, producing bulls and females that will make you money. If you have a good look at what they have done already, I’m sure you would see the potential these girls have in your herd. Looking to replace some of your older cows with either of these outstanding females, is ensuring that you will make your money back with their offspring. 20B or 5B are proven cows that will add value to anyone’s herd.

Here is the second of our Gold Digger heifers and she is a polled sweetheart. We couldn’t be more excited for our first Gold Digger females to calve this winter, early signs show great udder development as we expected. Susie Q might not have the most sought after color pattern in the sale but I urge you to take a serious look, what she lacks in pigment she makes up for in quality. She is a heifer I appreciate more and more as I analyze her, don’t let her slip by she won’t disappoint!
