Wheels of Wonder: Book Bike Did you know the local library is available on wheels? Showing up everywhere at local events, The Commuting Library is a mobile library pedaled by Norte! Youth Cycling volunteers are on generous loan to TADL from Laura and Bob Otwell, residents of Traverse City. The collection includes popular fiction titles in paperback for adults, a variety of children’s’ books, and titles chosen from the collection on Woodmere specific to the destination location. TADL staff is able to issue new library cards, check out materials, update accounts, and feature the online resources available through tadl.org. MI-Spot donated two Wi-Fi hot spots to keep them truly mobile. Now there’s no excuse for being late with your library books—they come to you!

Bike Sleeping Bear It’s official: The Most Beautiful Place in America is ready to ride! The Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail’s 5.5-mile segment between the Dune Climb and Empire finally opened in June. The new segment doubles the trail length to 9.5 miles from Empire to Glen Arbor. Construction for the Glen Arbor to Port Oneida segment is anticipated to be complete spring 2015 with the Port Oneida to Bohemian Road section in 2016, adding nearly 8 additional miles of trail in the next two years. And don’t forget that with the BATA new ride-n-bike service out to Sleeping Bear, it opens up a new world of family fun while protecting our environment for future generations.
