Final honours project Let’s play In my final honours collection I aim to create a range of playful fabrics and trims which evoke childhood memories and to experiment with innovative techniques which capture the essence of childhood play. Everyday Utopias Using only the finest cashmere yarns from Todd and Duncan our brief was to create a range of luxury fabrics. Following the trend ‘everyday utopias’ I created patterns from objects which would otherwise be seen as mundane everyday objects, photographing layouts. From these objects I created knit stitches and patterns to work from.

Innovation Knitted ceramics

How can knit stitches be replicated in clay and porcelain to create different surface patterns and textures?

The aim of my project was to discover whether different knit stitches can be replicated in clay and porcelain by imprinting and pressing the knit onto the clay to create more 3D structures. The one variable which was kept constant throughout the project was how the knit was pressed into the clay,this was done by laying the knit fabric into the clay and porcelain ,using a roller each time to make an imprint The main objectives where to see what variables could change and alter the stitches. Glazes, inks and coloured slips were added to see if the knit stitches could become more evident and create texture. Both porcelain and clay were used to see what effect the pressing and imprinting had on each medium. Different knit stitches such as ribs, racking etc were used to create a diverse range of patterns.
