A new way to fund local food, SOIL Sangre de Cristo offers zero percent interest loans to farmers, ranchers, and other food producers. The acronym SOIL stands for Slow Opportunities for Investing Locally. Investor members provide tax-deductible charitable donations to SOIL to fund the loans. Financial gifts of $250 or more allow the donor to participate in annual voting on loan recipients. When the loans are repaid, all funds revolve back into providing new loans within the community. A 501(c)3 nonprofit, SOIL members aim to build a healthy community by investing in supporting a local sustainable food future. Since SOIL Sangre de Cristo began in 2020, seven loans have been awarded. Long term, the aim of SOIL is to become a substantial lending resource for sustainable food production. Past recipients include Alpine Valley Mushrooms, Elements Mountain Compost, Badger Creek Ranch, and Elevation Farm & Orchard. To donate, apply, or learn more visit SOILSangreDeCristo.org

Posting your selfie will enter you into a drawing to win one of two $100 gift cards to a local restaurant. Drawings will be held at noon on July 28th and August 25th. Winners will be notified via the account where the selfie was posted and announced on Pinon’s social media feeds.
