Sport frei! Taschen aus recycelten Sportgeräte-Leder und Turnmatten fertigt nur einer: Turnvater Bernd Dörr. „Es mangelt der retro-sportiven Mode an exklusiven und hochwertigen Taschen. Unsere Einzelstücke erzählen jede Menge Geschichten und mit unseren Materialien kann sich nun mal jeder identifizieren...“ lautet die einfache Antwort, wenn Bernd Dörr nach dem „Warum“ gefragt wird. Ein verregneter Mittwoch, der Ersatzteilhändler auf dem 50er-JahreHinterhof und der neue Mieter von nebenan waren Schuld. Bernd Dörr entdeckte einen Haufen alter Turnmatten und ein paar defekte Turngeräte, die zum Sperrmüll am Straßenrand standen. Neugierig fragte er seinen Ersatzteilhändler was es damit auf sich hätte und stieß auf einen gerade eingezogenen Reparaturbetrieb für Sporthallengeräte. Das alte Leder war gerade durch die Gebrauchsspuren so schön, dass der Gedanke nahe lag daraus Dinge zu formen. Schnell noch mal nachgefragt, ob er sich die Reste mitnehmen kann und ab an die Nähmaschine. Die Idee Taschen aus alten Sportgeräte-Leder und Turnmatten zu fertigen war präsent und das Potenzial einer Taschen-Marke mit einem echten sportiven Hintergrund, Emotion und allerlei Erinnerungen bei jedermann lag auf der Hand.

Somit fehlte nur noch der passende Name und ein interessantes Erscheinungsbild: Markus Kreykenbohm, Retro-Werber und rechte Hand des Turnvaters übernahm die Kreation und Kommunikation der Marke und setzte mit der Fotografin Maria Brinkop und dem Model Sara-Pia Zimmermann auf den richtigen »Bock«. Die Marke »Zirkeltraining™« wurde im Oktober 2007 aus den Turnhallen entführt und auf Messen in Deutschland und Japan vorgestellt. Der Retro-Turnvater hat seine Bemühungen um das Sportgerät verstärkt und wird die einzigartige Kollektion um Modelle wie Handstand, Hocke, Rolle, Pferd, Kasten und Bock unter die Alltags-Turner bringen. Jedes Stück ist handgefertigt und einzigartig, extrem widerstandsfähig, trägt schweißtreibende und lehrreiche Erinnerungen in sich und ist nicht nur für Sport-Asse interessant. Vom klassischen MessengerBag, über Damenhandtaschen bis hin zu Geldbörsen und gepolsterten Laptop-Taschen und Sleeves verliebt sich nahezu jeder schnell in eines der Einzelstücke aus den vielen verschiedenen Taschenformen und Variationen. Erster Trainingserfolg: Die Apple-Handelskette GRAVIS vertreibt exklusiv die gepolsterten Laptop-Range. Zweiter Trainingserfolg: »Mit kleinen Sprüngen fliegen gelernt«. Der Lufthansa Worldshop trainierte 2008 und 2009 mit Zirkeltraining und führte die Modelle »Flick-Flack« und »Hocke« online und im gedruckten Katalog, welcher in der Lufthansa-Flotte auslag. Dritter Trainingserfolg: Zirkeltraining™ wurde mit dem »ispo BrandNew Award Winter ‘09« in der Kategorie Accessories ausgezeichnet. Die Expertenjury hat Zirkeltraining™ als einen von nur acht Gewinnern aus knapp 300 internationalen Einreichungen ausgewählt. Feel like getting some hip exercise? Only one person makes bags out of recycled leather from sports equipment and mats: “father of gymnastics” Bernd Dörr. “There is a shortage of exclusive, high-quality bags in retro-sporty fashion. Our items tell any number of stories, and everyone can identify with our materials …,” is Bernd Dörr’s simple answer when asked “why”. It all started on a rainy Wednesday with the spare parts dealer in the 1950s yard and the new tenant from next door. Bernd Dörr found a load of old sports mats and some faulty sports equipment that had been left by the roadside for collection. Curious, he asked the spare parts dealer what they were about, and found himself in a newly opened repair shop for sports hall equipment. The old leather was made even more beautiful by the signs of age and use it bore, and it seemed logical to use it for other things. A quick question to find out whether he could take the leftovers with him, and it was off to the sewing machine. He had the idea of making bags out of the leather from the old sports equipment and mats, and the potential for a brand with a genuine sporting background, emotion and all kinds of memories for everyone made absolute sense. All that was needed was the right name and an interesting look: Markus Kreykenbohm, retro advertiser

and right-hand man to the “father of gymnastics” took over the creation and marketing of the brand and chose the right partners in photographer Maria Brinkop and model Sara-Pia Zimmermann. The “Zirkeltraining™” brand (“circuit training”) was taken out of the sports halls in October 2007 and launched at trade fairs in Germany and Japan. The retro enthusiast has furthered his efforts involving sports equipment and will be adding models such as the Handstand, the Hocke (“crouch”), the Rolle (“roll”), the Kasten (“box”) and the Bock (“horse”) to the unique collection. Every item is handmade and unique, highly wear resistant and bursting with sweat-inducing, informative memories, and is not only of interest to sporting aces. From the traditional messenger bag and ladies’ handbags, to wallets and padded laptop bags and sleeves, everyone will fall instantly in love with at least one of the 24 different bag varieties. First training success: the padded laptop range is available exclusively from the Apple retail chain GRAVIS. The ‘Mat’ sleeves and ‘Barren’ are available from all GRAVIS stores and online from w w w.gravis.de Second training success: Lufthansa’s Worldshop exercises with Zirkeltraining, and has included the “Flick-Flack” and “Hocke” models in its online store and printed catalogue, available on all Lufthansa aircraft, from September 2008 to August 2009. Third training success: Zirkeltraining™ was awarded the “ispo BrandNew Award Winter ‘09” in the accessories category. The jury of experts chose Zirkeltraining™ as one of just eight winners from the almost 300 international submissions. The ispo BrandNew Award is the world’s biggest competition for new companies in the sporting goods industry. For nine years, the ispo BrandNew has been regarded as the barometer for future trends and will be presented for the 18th time at ispo winter ‘09 in Munich from 1 to 4 February 2009. Fourth training success: Zirkeltraining™ got nominated, from federal ministry for economy and technology in Berlin for its participation to the design price of German Federal Republic 2010. The German design price is the highest offical German awards in the design field. It is considered to be the “price of the prices”.
