In Arts Newsie, we take a look at two outstanding Broadway Musicals coming to South Florida. The dazzling world of Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts March 5-17. This theatrical extravaganza won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical. We sat down with Nick Rashad Burroughs who plays the role of Toulouse Lautrec to chat about the show. Hamilton will be at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami March 13-24. This influential cultural force won 11 Tony Awards, Grammy accolades, Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unrivaled special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.

NRB: Tantalizing, joyful, and spectacle.

RC: What makes Moulin Rouge! The Musical such an iconic Broadway musical?

NRB: The fact that it creates a space during two and half hours for audiences to dive into nostalgic music together, old laughs from the movie, new laughs for what the production has turned into, and the amazing experience of watching these talented performers giving their all every night that you won’t forget.

LM: I was born in Venezuela and currently live in Hollywood, Florida.

RC: What do you do for work?

LM: I model and work part-time in a bar, and also in other businesses.

RC: What are your favorite foods?

LM: Soups, chicken rice, and seafood.

LM: I follow a healthy lifestyle, good nutrition, daily training, and get good rest.

RC: Which are your top three exercises to stay in shape?

LM: I really like to train chest, shoulders, and legs – it’s one of my favorite body parts.

RC: What do you enjoy the most about modeling?

LM: I love modeling on catwalks, but my favorite type of modeling is to pose for photos in swimsuits, underwear, and tropical styles.

RC: What are your dreams you would like to achieve?

LM: Being a model for important brands and creating my own personal brand, while taking the time to enjoy the process.

RC: What are your favorite hobbies?

LM: The gym, gardening and going to the beach on my days off.

RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?

15TH FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI AT THE ARSHT CENTER

The 15th season of the Flamenco Festival Miami at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts will showcase the venerated and very popular Ballet Nacional de España, the intergenerational Stars of Flamenco , and four intimate performances in the Carnival Studio Theater, March 1-14. The headliner Ballet Nacional de España will have three performances (March 1-3) in the Ziff Ballet Opera House, and Stars of Flamenco will close the Festival March 14 in the Knight Concert Hall. This year’s Festival will also include four intimate performances in the Carnival Studio Theater which will celebrate the music of flamenco by featuring a guitar virtuoso and a guest dancer. The Ballet Nacional de España is Spain’s premier flamenco dance company, and its mission is to preserve Spain’s rich choreographic heritage that includes academic, stylized, folklore, bolera and flamenco dance forms. Stars of Flamenco will showcase some of Spain’s greatest dancers: Manuel Liñán, Alfonso de Losa, El Yiyo and Paula Comitre; and Sandra Carrasco will be the guest vocalist. Liñan and Llosa are known as mavericks of the flamenco world, and they combine their talents to represent flamenco’s history through dance.

THE FOUR INTIMATE PERFORMANCES:

Historias De Un Flamenco : Antonio Rey and guest dancer Irene Lozano ‘La Chiqui.’

Latin Grammy winner Antonio Rey is considered one of the top flamenco guitarists of his generation and has received prestigious awards such as the Premio Nacional de Guitarra. Miami-based dancer Irene Lozano blends traditional elements of flamenco, modern dance and ballet and is one of the greatest talents in the new generation of flamenco dance.

Miradas : Alejandro Hurtado and guest dancer Inmaculada Salomón.

Alejandro Hurtado is one of the most outstanding flamenco guitarists of our time, who connects with the tradition of past guitarists such as Montoya, Niño Ricardo and Sabicas, and is an expounder of the concert guitar as a solo instrument. Inmaculada Salomón is currently first dancer of Ballet Nacional de España.

Mi Esencia: Rycardo Moreno and guest dancer José Maya. Rycardo Moreno is a prominent flamenco and jazz guitarist, distinguished producer, arranger, and composer, who was born into a gypsy family and started playing music at 11 years old. Exhilarating dancer José Maya has teamed up with celebrated flamenco artists such as Farruquito, El Güito, Manolete, Estrella Morente, Gerardo Núñez and Diego El Cigala, and has opened for famous pop stars Marc Anthony, Beyoncé and Björk.

Guitarist José Fernández, aka ‘José del Tomate,’ was born in Almería, Spain into a family of famous artists, including his father ‘Tomatito,’ one of the most creative and famed flamenco guitarists of all time, and his great-grandfather, Miguel Fernández Cortés, ‘El Tomate.’ Karime Amaya is the great-niece of famous and passionate flamenco

MIAMI BEACH PRIDE EVENTS PREVIEW

This year’s Miami Beach Pride will take place April 4-14 with many events, some new and some community favorites. Given the continued attempts to take away some of our rights, we must come together and show that we are more united than ever in defending our LGBTQ rights. We highlight some of the key events below, and you can visit miamibeachprice.com for additional details.

Thursday, April 4. 6 p.m. Flag Raising. 1700 Convention Center Drive, with City of Miami Beach Officials. This is symbolic and more important than ever with current legislation which would prohibit the flag from being flown in government buildings. Local officials and Miami Beach Pride Board members will speak at the official kickoff to the start of Miami Beach Pride's festivities.

Thursday, April 4. 7:30 p.m. Pride Lights the Night –Flip the Switch Event. The Circle at Lincoln Road & Euclid Avenue. Working with the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District, this event is on one of the most iconic streets in South Beach, and a time to remember and honor the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

Saturday, April 5. 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. In The Wyld – A Garden of Eve Preview Party at Hotel Gaythering 1409 Lincoln Road. Enjoy a full-scale preview of Miami Beach Pride's famous women's pavilion, the ‘Garden of Eve,’ with music and drinks for this event especially for the ladies of our community.

Sunday, April 7. 10 a.m. Family Picnic. Pride Park. 1809 Meridian Avenue. This free Family Picnic will be fun for the whole family, including your fur babies! Enjoy a bounce house, outdoor games, face-painting, and craft activities for everyone to enjoy. The Humane Society of Miami will be doing puppy adoptions 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday, April 7. Doors Open at 6 p.m. Film screening at 7 p.m. Pride Movie Night. 1212 Lincoln Road. Rooftop Cinema Club and Miami Beach Pride in partnership with OUTshine Film Festival present The Mattachine Family , Directed by Andy Vallentine. Rooftop Cinema Club takes ‘dinner and a movie’ to new heights complete with a food menu and a full bar featuring refreshing cocktails, beer and wine and classic movie snacks, candy, and popcorn.

Monday, April 8. 6:30-9:30 p.m. Queer Art Showcase at Moxy South Beach. 915 Washington Avenue. The 4th edition of Miami Beach Pride’s Queer Art Showcase features local artists and talent from across South Florida and includes photography, paintings, spoken word, music and more!

Wednesday, April 10. Doors Open 6 p.m. Panels 6:30-8:30 p.m. 4th educational Social Justice, Health & Wellness Evening at O Cinema. 1130 Washington Avenue. Focusing on the most salient topics related to the LGBTQ Community today.

Friday, April 12. 7-11 p.m. Miami Beach Pride VIP Beach Affair. Lummus Park at 11th St. & Ocean Drive. Join hilarious drag queen performer, comedian, and host for the night Jessica Wild. She will be joined by Kimberly Nichole, a former finalist from NBC’s The Voice, who will perform her rendition of Tina Turner’s classics, backtracked by legendary DJ Robbie Leslie playing the 80s anthems all night long. Dress up and immerse yourself into the ‘Flashback to the 80s’ theme. Light bites and open bar presented by La Crema.

Saturday April 13. 12-11 p.m. Day 1 of the Miami Beach Pride Festival in Lummus Park. Festival Village with Expo. Includes ‘Garden of Eve’ Women’s Space, Lambda Legal Senior Lounge, ‘Tea Tent’ for Pride’s non-binary and trans community members, The Lawn at the Calming Pavilion (closes at 7 p.m.), Three performance stages (North & South & Community Stages) highlighting diverse headliner performances from local and national artists.

Sunday, April 14. 12 p.m. Miami Beach Pride Parade down Ocean Drive. Following the Parade, the Festival Village will open back up for Day 2 and continue with entertainment all day and into the night!
