Celebrating 10 years helping to keep businesses on track

Based in Richmond, Business Roundup is committed to helping small businesses create and maintain efficient accounting systems. A successful business is heavily reliant upon keeping track of its finances and not all business owners have the resources, time or desire to deal with the paperwork. This is why Business Roundup has become a valuable asset for many businesses in the Nelson, Tasman and Brightwater areas, offering their expertise to help manage a number of elements from accounts and payroll to GST and tax returns. Although they offer similar services to an accountant, there are several elements that set Business

Roundup apart, the first being their focus on the progress of the business leading up to the tax return and second being their mobile service. Business Roundup was established in 2005 by director Sue Thomas. Her main reason for creating the business was to utilize her experience and help owners keep track of what was happening to their business. After 18 years working in a large corporate environment, dealing with many aspects of the business and a number of software programs, Sue is now able to bring this experience and knowledge to other business owners and their enterprises. When she noticed a need amongst small and new

businesses for guidance, services and training when it came to their finances, she began to build up her clientele until making the transition to a full time bookkeeping service. While Sue takes care of Business Roundup’s mobile support service, Liz Reeve works on the paperwork for clients who don’t have designated offices. Documents are collected from businesses and taken back to the Business Roundup office to be completed. Liz also has many years of experience managing offices, having always enjoyed balancing accounts and sorting out problems relating to business management. As the most recent member to the Business Roundup team, Vicki Scott has a background in accountancy. Having worked for a couple of local chartered accounting firms previously, she is now getting her feet back under the desk after time away raising her family and will be focusing on clients who do not have an accountant. Her expertise will lie in tax returns, analysing and discussing reports with clients and budgeting. For small businesses, using Busi-

ness Roundup offers a number of advantages, most important of which is that the team can step into any business situation and deal with whatever financial task that is needed. Whether it’s sorting out the payroll, sending out invoices, managing debtors or bank reconciliations, Business Roundup can pick up any part of the books that business owners haven’t got the time for or are unfamiliar with, keeping the business up to date and running smoothly. This goes for businesses that already have their own accountant. Business Roundup works closely with a number of local accounting firms, covering the day to day book work of the business until the end of the year when they will hand the paper work over to the accountant to file the tax returns. For those who don’t have an accountant, Vicki can provide this service, and because the team have been working with clients throughout the year on their books, the cost of the tax return can be kept down. Another side to Business Roundup is their training services. For many small business owners, accounting software packages are often bought
