Kaye McNabb, the chief executive of Nelson Airport Ltd, has been selected as a finalist in the national Women of Influence Awards. Now in its second year, the Women of Influence Awards are about identifying the bold, energetic women who are helping shape New Zealand and its future across eight categories. The judges are looking for women who are having an impact well beyond their formal roles and titles at local, regional and national levels. “It was quite humbling as well as a real honour to have been asked by Jane McSpirit, Bank Manager at Westpac Nelson, to accept a nomination for the these awards” says Kaye , “and it was an even bigger surprise and very exciting to be notified that I was a finalist”. Kaye McNabb. Kaye has been nominated for the category “Local and Regional” which recognises women who are having an impact at a local or regional level. Kaye sits on the executive committee of the New Zealand Airports Association and a number of working groups for the Civil Aviation Authority and Ministry of Transport. She also chairs the Top of the South Aviation Cluster and Strategy Committee, both of which work to grow and promote the aviation industry in the region. Kaye also serves on a number of consulting and working groups in respect of CAA and Ministry of Transport legislation reviews, is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, a member of the Institute of Directors and a Justice of the Peace. The winners of each category and then the overall winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner event in Auckland on the October 8.

Bob Howard was already three days out of Nelson when message got through to his father that he’d joined a merchant ship headed for London. It was 1947, he was just 16 years old, and his father didn’t like that very much. But there was nothing he could do, with Bob at sea for the next 77

days aboard the Pamir.
