OUT & ABOUT

CHARITY

Mid-winter Christmas Banquet Enjoy a social night out and a delicious Christmas-themed three course dinner at the Canterbury Charity Hospital's first fundraising event of the year – a Midwinter Christmas Banquet on Thursday 25 June at 7.30pm at the Christchurch Casino. The Canterbury Charity Hospital in Harewood Road, Bishopdale, is the only hospital of its kind in New Zealand and provides free medical, surgical, dental and counselling services to Cantabrians in need. Patients are referred by their family

doctor and qualify if they don't make the public health waiting list and don't have medical insurance or the means to pay for their treatment. The Canterbury Charity Hospital has only three paid part-time clinical staff and the remaining 300 staff are volunteers – doctors, dentists, nurses, support staff, counsellors and gardeners. With no Government funding, the Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust relies solely on fundraising events, donations and grants. To book tickets or to make a donation visit www.charityhospital.org.nz.

30 years of barrel fermenting The year was 1983, it was the year that a Kiwi won the Melbourne Cup, Prince William made his first visit to New Zealand, Lorraine Downes was crowned Miss Universe, Lance Cairns hit his six sixes at the MCG and Microsoft first launched Word. It was also the year that Mission Estate winemaker, Paul Mooney, made New Zealand's first handpicked, whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented Chardonnay. To mark its 30th consecutive vintage of

producing barrel fermented Chardonnay, Mission Estate has released a limited edition Chardonnay under its prestigious Huchet label. The wine has been painstakingly crafted from the sublime 2013 vintage and is sure to be keenly sought out by Chardonnay connoisseurs from around the world. Huchet Chardonnay 2013 - RRP $89/bottle. www.missionestate.co.nz
