SITTING IN THE THEATRE AND EXPERIENCING THE SPACE THERE IS AN OVERWHELMING SENSE OF WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY. -Issac Theatre Royal

3. Isaac Theatre Royal The skeptics of the Cathedral restoration need to visit the Isaac Theatre Royal, as it is one of the most remarkable 'restorations' we have seen to date and shows real faith in the people of our city and our architectural fraternity. Sitting in the theatre and experiencing the space there is an overwhelming sense of where there is a will, there is a way. If you didn't know the history of the building, you would never know it had been rebuilt in such an in-depth manner. The building has been put back together with homage to the past, with the quirks that made it unique, and a nod to the future in its improved construction methods and practicalities. It is not about recreating the past, but about creating a sense of authenticity. It is a physical reminder of our history and a clear example of where there is a will there is a way. If we, as a city want character and history in our buildings, then we can.

4. PwC Centre The ruins of the former PwC Centre are a tribute to the building, the businesses and the people that went through not only a terrible experience during the quakes, but lost so much in the days, months and years that have gone since. And experiencing these ruins is a special, contemplative and harsh reminder of what our city has been through. Caught somewhere between a contemporary Greek or Roman ruin site and a post-apocalyptic scene, this is an architectural moment that will come and go and is a must-visit b efore it is lost.

A room without tiles is like a body without a soul... For consummate skill in

One of the most heavily published views of the Town Hall during its design and construction was the Kilmore Street Façade. It was a visual put out there to engage and encourage the public in the brightness of the future associated with this building. And now over forty years later that original view can once again be seen. And like the PwC Centre, this is an architectural experience that won't be around for long. Standing at the back of the former Convention Centre site on Peterborough Street you are able to drink an iconic view. A view which encapsulates the Town Hall for what was envisioned, while beautifully illustrating why it is such a treasured and celebrated building. www.caarc.co.nz
