Welcome to issue 23 of Supercar Driver, a unique publication, written by the owners, for the owners. We established Supercar Driver in late 2009 as a driver’s club for supercar owners, predominantly based in the northern half of England. Fast forward to 2017 and we’ve evolved into the UK’s leading club for supercar owners, attracting a mix of drivers and collectors. We recently hit the huge milestone of 600 members, yes, we now have a community of over 600 like-minded, enthusiastic owners based across the UK who have access to a new way of life centred around their passion for cars. Hopefully you’re all as fuelled up for the supercar season ahead as we are!

Editor’s Note: It’s April, it’s 20 degrees, and what better way to celebrate the start of the sunny season than with the annual Supercar Driver Secret Meet? On the 9th April, we had more than two hundred members and their supercars descend on Bruntingthorpe for a fantastic day out and the world’s best car photo. Read all about it on Page 64. I personally love to feature members’ cars and garages in the magazine. In this edition, we take an in-depth look at Jan’s collection of cars, housed in two beautiful showroom-style garages on Page 92. I also find it fascinating talking to our members about how and why they came to own the cars that they do. In this edition we have the likes of the latest variant of the rapid and usable Nissan GT-R (Page 80) and the extreme engineering masterpiece that is the Pagani Huayra (Page 74). If you’d like your car to be featured in a future edition, please email me and don’t worry if you can’t write or don’t have the time, we’ll put quill-to-parchment on your behalf.

The 209mph Bentley Say hello to the fastest four-seater in the world as David baker gets an early opportunity to put it through its paces. Written by: David Baker Think of a number… The correct answer is 7, as in 700bhp and 750Ib-ft. These are the seriously impressive headline figures of the brand new Bentley Continental Supersports we had the chance to drive thanks to Bentley Manchester. Riad and I had a short amount of time with the car so we had to be quick, no problem, for we would be reviewing the fastest four-seater in the world. With a base price of just over £212k, the Supersports is aimed as an upgrade for existing Continental owners, but Bentley also has the likes of Ferrari F12 customers in their sights. It had better be good then. We had just an hour with the car before it was destined to be driven by prospective owners for the day and then handed onto the next dealership. We were quickly handed over to professional driver Michael, and he explained some of the key features of the car. Its 40kg lighter than standard, thanks to ceramic brakes and a titanium exhaust developed by SCD sponsors Akrapovič. This car is a striking black and white colour scheme and is dripping in carbon fibre including front and rear diffusors, bonnet vents and fixed rear wing - all part of the ‘Supersports X Specification’. On the inside it’s much of the same with carbon and leather throughout, replaced at key contact points with Alcantara within the four seats and steering wheel. Performance stats are impressive with this 2,200kg car hitting 100mph from rest in 7.2s, 1.6s faster than the previous model. To put this into context, this makes it faster than both the new Honda NSX and the latest Nissan GT-R before it goes on to a top speed of 209mph.

After a few choice photos I was given the keys and we were off. Firstly I have to say, as my very first drive in any Bentley, this felt a very special place to be. Visibility all around is excellent, and it just goes… It’s a seriously quick and capable car, and unsurprisingly due to the four wheel drive, totally effortless. The way to drive this car when making progress is medium speed in and fast out, being very agile and surprisingly flat in the twisting A and B roads, helped by its torque vectoring system and adjustable dampeners. You’d never believe it weighs in excess of two tonnes! A nice surprise was the exhaust note from the Akrapovič developed titanium system. In sport mode it pops when changing gear, and leaving the revs to engine brake from around 4000rpm leads to a series of pops and bangs, familiar to anyone with a recent AMG. All too soon our time was up and we were parked up back at Bentley Manchester. This was a great opportunity to try a relatively rare car (710 to be made worldwide, with just 150 in the UK) before nearly anyone else on UK roads. As the most powerful car I’ve driven, the new Bentley Continental Supersports is effortless and refined but very capable, with a naughty exhaust thrown in to add to the excitement. One question remains, how good would this big Bentley be on track?
