VAN GOGH SOFT PASTELS HIGH QUALITY
THE COMPOSITION The composition of soft pastels is such that the colour on the ground approaches that of pure pigment as much as possible. The Van Gogh soft pastels have a combination of high-quality pigments and the purest and softest types of kaolin, also sometimes referred to as pipe clay or china clay. The well-balanced proportions of these ingredients result in an as spontaneous as possible colour transfer and velvety look.

THE RIGHT SOFTNESS
The softness is chosen in such a way that the pastels transfer their colour easily, but without spontaneously falling apart or turning to powder.
GROUND AND ADHESION
In theory, any ground can be used, providing it has sufficient structure to its surface. In contrast to paint, soft pastels do not adhere to the ground through a binding agent. The pastel powder hangs, as it were, onto the fibres or the tooth structure of the paper, and is not smudge-proof. The particles can be fixed using fixative that can be sprayed with a fixative atomiser from a bottle or a spray can. Special pastel paper is often used, but soft pastels are also suitable for working on cardboard, stone, asphalt and wood.

ASSORTMENT COMPOSITION The assortment consists of 80 colours with a balanced distribution of the various colours. When working with pastels the colours are mixed in the artwork itself. If too many layers are applied on top of one another, the ground can become saturated making it impossible for new layers to adhere. You cannot therefore apply new layers indefinitely. That is why the assortment includes many mixes with black and with white so that light and dark gradations of colours do not have to be mixed. The Van Gogh assortment consists of pure colours (full tones), colours mixed with black and colours mixed with white. The colour number indicates whether the colour has been mixed. Every colour has its own number. With pure colours this number is followed by the code ,5. In the case of, for example, Lemon yellow 205,5 is given on the label. The mix with black is indicated by ,3 and the mixes with an increasing amount of white are indicated by the increasing series: ,8 ,9 ,10 and ,12.

AUXILIARIES The following auxiliaries are available for working with Van Gogh soft pastels: • Talens pastel fixative. Improves the adhesion of pastel particles on the ground. Is colourless, dries quickly and does not yellow. By applying too much fixative, colours can become considerably darker. Always apply the fixative sparingly and keep approx. 40 cm distance. A safe way to proceed is to lightly fix every layer, and apply the next layer once the fixative is dry. Available in bottles of 75 ml and 1 litre. Also available under the name Concentrated Fixative, in spray cans of 150 and 400 ml. • Talens fixative atomiser. For atomising fixative from a small bottle. • Talens kneadable eraser. Grey kneadable eraser that can easily absorb pastel particles. Can be used many times (until the eraser is completely “saturated”). Also suitable for charcoal and graphite. • Talens charcoal. Excellent quality charcoal, made from carefully selected willow twigs. Thanks to the traditional process of craftsmanship, the charcoal allows for full colour transfer. Available in three thicknesses.

Colour Index For professional grades of paint we list the pigments used. The pigment is indicated by letters and figures according to the Colour Index. The Colour Index is an international system which allows one to check which pigments are used in a particular colour and what the properties of that pigment are. The letters stand for a particular colour, the figures give the specific type of pigment. For example: PW6 = Pigment White, 6 = Titanium dioxide. DE SAMENSTELLING Softpastels zijn zo samengesteld dat de kleur op de ondergrond zoveel mogelijk die van puur pigment benadert. De Van Gogh softpastels hebben een combinatie van hoogwaardige pigmenten en de meest zuivere en zachte soorten kaolien, ook wel pijpaarde of Chinees porseleinaarde genoemd. De uitgebalanceerde verhouding van deze ingrediĂŤnten resulteert in zo spontaan mogelijke kleurafgifte en een fluweelachtig uiterlijk.

De zachtheid is zo gekozen dat de pastels makkelijk kleur afgeven, maar niet spontaan uiteen vallen of verpoederen.
ONDERGROND EN HECHTING
In principe kan elke ondergrond worden gebruikt, mits deze voldoende oppervlaktestructuur heeft. In tegenstelling tot verf hecht softpastel zich niet aan de ondergrond door middel van een bindmiddel. Het pastelpoeder blijft als het ware hangen in de vezels of de structuur van de ondergrond en is niet veegvast. De pasteldeeltjes kunnen worden gefixeerd met fixatief, dat opgebracht kan worden met een fixeerspuitje vanuit een flacon of met een spuitbus. Vaak wordt op speciaal pastelpapier gewerkt, maar softpastels zijn ook geschikt voor werken op karton, steen, asfalt of hout.

OPBOUW VAN HET ASSORTIMENT Het assortiment bestaat uit 80 kleuren die uitgebalanceerd verdeeld zijn over de verschillende kleurgebieden. Bij het pastelleren worden kleuren in het werkstuk zelf gemengd. Als teveel lagen over elkaar worden aangebracht, dan kan de ondergrond verzadigd raken en zullen nieuwe lagen niet meer hechten. Er kan dus niet onbeperkt doorgewerkt worden. Daarom kent het assortiment vele versnijdingen met zwart en met wit zodat lichte en donkere gradaties van kleuren niet hoeven te worden gemengd. Het Van Gogh assortiment bestaat uit pure kleuren (voltonen), kleuren gemengd met zwart en kleuren gemengd met wit. Het kleurnummer geeft aan of een kleur versneden is. Elke kleur heeft een eigen nummer. Bij pure kleuren wordt dit nummer gevolgd door de code ,5. In het geval van bijvoorbeeld puur Citroengeel staat 205,5 op het etiket. De versnijding met zwart wordt aangegeven met ,3 en de versnijdingen met een toenemende hoeveelheid wit met een oplopende reeks: ,8 ,9 ,10 en ,12.

HULPMIDDELEN Voor het werken met Van Gogh softpastels zijn er de volgende hulpmiddelen beschikbaar: • Talens pastelfixatief. Verbetert de hechting van pasteldeeltjes op de ondergrond. Is kleurloos, niet-vergelend en sneldrogend. Door teveel fixatief aan te brengen kunnen kleuren aanzienlijk donkerder worden. Breng fixatief altijd spaarzaam aan en houd ca. 40 cm afstand. Een veilige manier is om elke laag licht te fixeren en na droging van het fixatief de volgende laag aan te brengen. Verkrijgbaar in flacon van 75 ml en fles van 1 liter. Ook leverbaar onder de naam Geconcentreerd Fixatief, in spuitbussen van 150 en 400 ml. • Talens fixeerspuitje. Voor het vernevelen van fixatief uit een flacon. • Talens kneedgom. Grijze kneedbare gom, die gemakkelijk pasteldeeltjes kan opnemen. Vele malen te gebruiken (totdat het gom geheel “verzadigd” is). Ook geschikt voor houtskool en grafiet. • Talens houtskool. Uitstekende kwaliteit houtskool, gemaakt van speciaal geselecteerde wilgentwijgen. Door de traditionele ambachtelijke productiewijze heeft de houtskool een volle kleurafgifte. Verkrijgbaar in drie diktes.

ZUSAMMENSETZUNG Weiche Pastelle werden so zusammengestellt, dass der Farbton auf dem Untergrund dem Farbton des reinen Pigments so weit wie möglich nahe kommt. Die Van Gogh Weichen Pastelle bestehen aus einer Kombination aus hochwertigen Pigmenten sowie den reinsten und weichsten Kaolinsorten, auch bekannt unter dem Namen Pfeifenton oder Chinesische Porzellanerde. Das ausgewogene Verhältnis dieser Bestandteile resultiert in eine so spontan wie mögliche Farbabgabe und ein samtiges Erscheinungsbild.

DER RICHTIGE WEICHHEITSGRAD
Der Weichheitsgrad wurde so gewählt, dass die Pastelle die Farbe leicht abgeben, jedoch nicht plötzlich auseinander brechen oder zu Puder zerfallen.
UNTERGRUND UND HAFTUNG
Im Prinzip kann jeder Untergrund verwendet werden, solange er eine ausreichende Oberflächenstruktur besitzt. Im Gegensatz zu Farbe haftet Pastell nicht mit Hilfe eines Bindemittels am Untergrund. Das Pastellpuder bleibt sozusagen in den Fasern oder der Struktur des Untergrundes hängen und ist nicht wischfest. Die Pastellteilchen können mit Fixativ fixiert werden, das mit einer Fixierspritze aus einer Flasche oder mit einer Sprühdose aufgetragen werden kann. Oft wird auf speziellem Pastellpapier gearbeitet, weiche Pastelle eignen sich jedoch auch für das Zeichnen auf Karton, Stein, Asphalt oder Holz.

AUFBAU DES SORTIMENTS Das Sortiment besteht aus 80 Farben, die ausgewogen über die verschiedenen Farbgebiete verteilt sind. Beim Pastellieren werden Farben auf dem Werkstück gemischt. Wenn zu viele Schichten übereinander aufgebracht werden, kann die Oberfläche übersättigt werden, neue Schichten haften dann nicht mehr. Ein unbegrenztes Weiterarbeiten ist also nicht möglich. Deshalb hat das Sortiment viele Verschnitte mit Schwarz und Weiß, so dass helle und dunkle Farbabstufungen nicht gemischt werden müssen. Das Van Gogh Sortiment besteht aus reinen Farben (Volltöne) sowie mit Schwarz beziehungsweise mit Weiß gemischten Farben. Die Farbnummer gibt an, ob eine Farbe gemischt ist. Jede Farbe hat eine eigene Nummer. Bei reinen Farben steht hinter dieser Nummer der Code ,5. So steht beispielsweise im Fall von reinem Zitronengelb 205,5 auf dem Etikett. Die Mischung mit Schwarz wird angegeben mit ,3 und die Mischungen mit einer zunehmenden Menge Weiß mit einer aufsteigenden Reihe: ,8 ,9 ,10 und ,12.

HILFSMITTEL Für das Arbeiten mit Van Gogh Weichen Pastellen sind folgende Hilfsmittel erhältlich: • Talens Pastellfixativ. Verbesserung der Haftung von Pastellteilchen auf dem Untergrund. Ist farblos, vergilbungsfrei und schnelltrocknend. Durch das Anbringen einer zu großen Menge an Fixativ können Farben erheblich dunkler werden. Fixativ immer sparsam auftragen und 40 cm Abstand halten. Ein sicherer Weg ist die leichte Fixierung jeder einzelnen Schicht und das Auftragen auf die folgende Schicht erst nach der Trocknung des Fixativs. Erhältlich in 75 ml Fläschchen und einer 1 Liter Flasche. Auch erhältlich unter dem Namen Konzentriertes Fixativ, in Sprühflaschen mit 150 und 400 ml. • Talens Fixierspritze. Für die Zerstäubung des Fixativs aus einer Flasche. • Talens Knetgummi. Graues Knetgummi, das leicht Pastellpartikel aufnehmen kann. Viele Male verwendbar (bis das Knetgummi vollständig „gesättigt“ ist). Auch geeignet für Holzkohle und Graphit. • Talens Holzkohle. Ausgezeichnete Qualität Holzkohle, gefertigt aus speziell ausgewählten Weidenzweigen. Aufgrund der traditionellen, handwerklichen Produktion hat die Holzkohle eine volle Farbabgabe. Erhältlich in drei Stärken.

LA COMPOSITION Les pastels tendres sont composés de façon que la couleur transmise au support soit le plus proche possible de celle du pigment pur. Les pastels tendres Van Gogh associent des pigments de qualité supérieure aux variétés de kaolin (encore appelé terre de pipe ou terre à porcelaine de Chine) les plus pures et les plus tendres. Les proportions équilibrées de ce mélange d’ingrédients se traduisent par une transmission de couleur d’une grande spontanéité et par un aspect velouté.

SUPPORT ET ADHÉRENCE
Il est en principe possible d’utiliser n’importe quel support, à condition que sa surface ait une texture suffisante. Contrairement à la peinture, le pastel tendre n’adhère pas au support par l’intermédiaire d’un liant. La poudre de pastel accroche pour ainsi dire aux fibres ou à la structure du support et ne résiste pas au frottement. Les particules de pastel peuvent être fixées à l’aide d’un fixatif en flacon à pulvériser ou à l’aide d’une bombe. Le travail au pastel se fait souvent sur du papier à pastel spécial, mais les pastels tendres peuvent aussi s’utiliser sur du carton, de la pierre, du bitume ou du bois.

COMPOSITION DE L’ASSORTIMENT L’assortiment se compose de 80 couleurs réparties de façon équilibrée entre les différents groupes de couleurs. Dans le dessin au pastel, les couleurs sont mélangées dans le travail même. Lorsqu’on superpose trop de couches, le support peut être saturé et les nouvelles couches n’adhèrent plus. Il est donc impossible de continuer à travailler indéfiniment. C’est pourquoi l’assortiment comporte un grand nombre de coupages avec du noir et avec du blanc, ce qui évite d’avoir à faire des mélanges pour obtenir des degrés clairs et foncés de couleurs. L’assortiment Van Gogh se compose de couleurs pures (couleurs franches), de couleurs mélangées avec du noir et de couleurs mélangées avec du blanc. Le numéro de la couleur indique si une couleur a été coupée. Chaque couleur a un numéro propre. Pour les couleurs pures, ce numéro est suivi du code ,5. Dans le cas du Jaune citron pur par exemple, l’étiquette porte le numéro 205,5. Le coupage avec du noir est indiqué à l’aide du code ,3 et les coupages avec des quantités croissantes de blanc à l’aide d’une série croissante de codes : ,8 ,9 ,10 et ,12.

ACCESSOIRES Les accessoires suivants sont disponibles pour travailler avec les pastels tendres Van Gogh : • Fixatif pour pastels Talens. Améliore l’adhérence des particules de pastel au support. Incolore, ne jaunit pas et sèche rapidement. L’utilisation d’une trop grande quantité de fixatif peut foncer considérablement les couleurs. Appliquer le fixatif en petite quantité à une distance d’env. 40 cm. Par mesure de précaution, il est conseillé de fixer légèrement chaque couche de pastel et d’appliquer la couche suivante lorsque le fixatif est sec. Est disponible en flacon de 75 ml et en bouteille de 1 litre. Également vendu sous la dénomination de Fixatif concentré, en bombes de 150 et de 400ml. • Seringue à fixatif Talens. Pour pulvériser le fixatif en flacon. • Gomme mie de pain Talens. Gomme malléable de couleur grise, pouvant retenir facilement les particules de pastel. S’utilise un grand nombre de fois (jusqu’à « saturation » complète de la gomme). S’utilise aussi pour le travail au fusain et au graphite. • Fusain Talens. Excellente qualité de fusain, fabriquée à partir de rameaux de saule spécialement sélectionnés. Sa méthode de production artisanale traditionnelle donne à ce fusain une parfaite transmission de couleur. Disponible en 3 épaisseurs.

LA COMPOSICIÓN Los pasteles suaves están confeccionados de tal forma que el color que queda en el soporte se aproxima al máximo al color del pigmento puro. Los pasteles suaves Van Gogh están formados por una combinación de pigmentos de alta calidad y el caolín más puro y suave posible, también llamado arcilla de China o caolinita. El equilibrio entre estos ingredientes conduce hacia un desprendimiento de color espontáneo y un aspecto aterciopelado.

LA SUAVIDAD JUSTA
El grado de suavidad ha sido concebido de tal forma que los pasteles desprenden el color fácilmente pero no se descomponen o pulverizan.
SOPORTE Y ADHERENCIA
En principio, puede usarse cualquier soporte con la condición de que tenga suficiente estructura superficial. Al contrario de lo que ocurre con la pintura, los pasteles suaves no se adhieren al soporte por el aglutinante. El polvo del pastel queda suspendido en las fibras o en la estructura del soporte y no está a prueba de barrido. Las partículas de pastel pueden fijarse con un fijador que se aplica con un pulverizador de fijador directamente desde el frasco o con un spray. Normalmente, se suele usar papel para pastel, pero los pasteles suaves también son aptos para aplicar sobre cartón, piedra, asfalto o madera.

CONFIGURACIÓN DE LA GAMA La gama consta de 80 colores perfectamente distribuidos en los diferentes campos cromáticos. Al trabajar con pastel, los colores se mezclan en la obra misma. Si se aplican demasiadas capas una sobre otra, el soporte se satura y las nuevas capas no se adherirán bien. Es decir, no se puede trabajar hasta la infinidad. Es por ello que en la gama se incluyen muchas mezclas con negro y blanco, para no tener que mezclar uno mismo las tonalidades claras y oscuras. La gama Van Gogh consta de colores puros (tonalidad plena), colores mezclados con negro y colores mezclados con blanco. El número de color indica si el color ha sido mezclado. Cada color tiene su propio número. Los colores puros llevan ,5 después del número. Por ejemplo, el amarillo limón puro viene indicado en la etiqueta por 205,5. La mezcla con negro se indica con ,3 y las mezclas con una cantidad de blanco en aumento gradual, se indican por las series de ,8 ,9 ,10 y ,12.

AUXILIARES Para trabajar con los pasteles suaves Van Gogh, están disponibles los siguientes auxiliares: • Talens fijador para pastel. Mejora la adherencia de las partículas de pastel al soporte. Es incoloro, de secado rápido y no amarillea. Si se aplica demasiada cantidad, los colores se oscurecen en gran medida. Aplicar siempre poca cantidad y mantener a unos 40 cm de distancia. Una forma segura de aplicar el fijador es haciéndolo ligeramente después de cada capa de pastel, dejar secar y a continuación aplicar una siguiente capa de pastel. Disponible en frascos de 75 ml y en botellas de 1 litro. También se conoce como Fijador concentrado, en sprays de 150 y 400 ml. • Talens pulverizador para fijador. Para pulverizar el fijador desde el frasco. • Talens goma moldeable. Goma moldeable de color gris que absorbe fácilmente las partículas de pastel. Puede usarse muchas veces hasta que la goma quede totalmente saturada. También apta para carboncillo y grafito. • Talens carboncillo. Carboncillo de excelente calidad, fabricado de ramas de sauce especialmente seleccionadas. Su método de producción artesanal hace que el carboncillo tenga un fuerte desprendimiento de color.
