Ohio Amateur Quarter Horse Association
The Little Buckeye was held July 6-9, 2023 and was the largest show to date at Garwood Arena!
The show boasted 632 stalls (with every stall filled), and 65 entries in some of the classes, explains OAQHA President Heather Duer, with over 2800 entries for each of the 4 judges – over 11,000 entries total.
Though the show was large, OAQHA rolled out the red carpet to make everyone feel welcome, as is the OAQHA’s usual style! “We fed over 525 people at six exhibitor parties,” says Heather, “with 20 dozen donuts and mimosas every morning.”

Congress Cup Success
Through the collective efforts of the participants, organizers, and sponsors, the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation raised nearly $20,000. These funds will directly contribute to the academic endeavors of the Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association, empowering young individuals to pursue their educational goals.
The team of Greg Tordoff, Chad Kaiser, Eric Wyers, and Tim Gargasz took home first place for the 2023 event. The Congress Cup also recognized individual performances through various competitions. Dan Lassak won the competitive Closest to Pin competition, while Keenan Goolsby’s exceptional drive earned him the Longest Drive title. Mike Roten showcased his putting skills and claimed the win in the Longest Putt competition. Chuck Smith took home a brand-new Taylormade putter with the win in the final putting competition.

The past couple months I have been representing OQHA in a few different areas. At the beginning of July, I assisted in handing out stuffed animals to the lead line class at the BWHA Quarter Horse Show held at the University of Findlay. Later in the month, I traveled down to the Ohio State Fair and assisted with awards during the Hunter Showmanship, Western Pleasure, and Horsemanship Championship classes. After the state fair, I flew out to Oklahoma City and assisted with awards at the AQHA Youth World show for a week alongside the 2022 Congress Queen, Kylie Good.
As the summer comes to an end, I plan on attending my county fair, Henry County, and assisting with the versatility awards in August. I also plan on attending the Fulton County Fair in September to assist with their versatility awards. After attending both fairs, I will be getting ready to represent OQHA in the 2023 Quarter Horse Congress Queens Contest! I have had a lot of fun this summer representing OQHA and wish everyone the best of luck going into Congress!

OMI Quarter Horse Assocation
Wow what a year it has been for OMIQHA, both our shows went over well. The March show had over 1,400 entries per judge with a sellout of stalls for the show. The June show was a little light on stalls due to other big shows prior to ours, but we still had 1,133 entries per judge, everyone there came to show.
We want to thank all our participants and sponsors for an amazing year, without you we would not be able to do what we do for everyone. We are gearing up for year-end awards and looking to see what we can do to spice up next year.
We held a live auction of a special set of Harris spurs in remembrance of Dr. Kathleen Lennon with Todd Schling, our announcer/auctioneer. We were able to send $ 650 to Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine for scholarships in her honor. We want to thank all that joined in on the auction.
