Wow! It's only one week away till we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the USA. My family will be cooking a turkey, having some mashed potatoes, several delicious side dishes and pies! by Cheryl Flothe My husband and I visited Colonial Williamsburg when we were in Washington, D.C. and were swept back in time to the 17th and 18th centuries! In 1699, Williamsburg became the center of government after the first capital building in Jamestown burned. The town thrived as the center of government, culture, and education until the capital was moved to Richmond in 1780, during the Revolutionary War. Notable founding fathers such as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and James Madison met there and formed the concept of democracy. In fact, the nearby College of William & Mary, established in 1693 and the second oldest college in the United States, was where U.S. Presidents James Monroe, Thomas Jefferson, John Tyler and 16 men who signed the Declaration of Independence attended the school. Historic Williamsburg was neglected after the hub of government relocated to Richmond, but from the early 1900’s through the 1930’s activists and donors recognized the need for restoration of this unique historic area. On the 301 acre site; they restored or rebuilt homes, businesses, and other structures; including The Capitol, Bruton Parish Church, The Governor’s Palace, and Raleigh Tavern. 2.

Over the years, Colonial Williamsburg has become one of the most popular historic sites in America. Wikipedia described it as a living history museum. Visitors are immersed in the bustle of Revolutionary War era life. Re-enactors and interpreters stroll the streets, work on the crafts of the times (black-smithing, glass blowing, cooking, sewing, basket making, and more), and interact with people who come to experience what life was like in early America. Events and programs are held throughout the year to teach and involve town visitors. If you visit Washington, D.C., be sure to include a side trip to Colonial Williamsburg! I played 3 sports in high school and after my playing days were over I just wanted to stay involved in sports because it was my love. So I started out as a non paid assistant at the high school I went to. I learned from the coaches, then got my first chance as a Freshman coach, then JV, and moved right up to Varsity.

It's your ability to be organized and to communicate with people. Coaches that are successful are the ones that find a way to get the best out of each individual on their team; to help them reach their potential. That's the real challenge.
What do you love about your career? The thing I love most is the relationships you build with your players that last long after their playing days are over. It also gives me great joy to see each player improve as the season goes on. Helping the players to grow as a person, not just a basketball player, teaching life skills that will help them later on.
How do you inspire kids to improve their basketball skills? Each player is unique in their own way. They all have different personalities and upbringings, so as a coach you have to watch and study each player to see what's going to work. In today's world they want you to treat everyone the same, but I feel you can't do that because God has made us all different. More than anything you Inspire kids with LOVE and let them know they are something special.

We knew we wanted to adopt from day one of our marriage since Kelly (my husband) was adopted and I could not or have not really tired to get pregnant in the past (we both were in other marriages so we had a later start in our marriage). It was never something either of us really wanted deep in our hearts back then, but when we heard about the foster care system through our church we started there. That really opened our eyes and we knew that this was the way we wanted to go, adopting kids from the foster care system when we could. We took all the classes and we opened our home May 17, 2011. We had a girl (13 years old) that was freed for adoption, but things did not work out. We took in random foster kids that all were heading back to their homes or homes of their families. Until we heard about two boys (6 and 8) that just became freed for adoption. So on June 2, 2012 we met the boys for the first time. We had to do multiple meetings over the next couple of months, and then on Oct 6, 2012 they moved in. We finalized their adoption on Oct 17, 2013.

Health & Wellness Q: Why should we be grateful? A: Gratitude is an expression of thanks for gifts we have received.
Were there things that you did to prepare them for the adoption process? Well most of the time they were here, their caseworker talked to them about a possible adoption. We had many talks with them to see how they felt about the whole thing. There was working through their feelings about their biological parents and what happened there. Really just communication with the boys helped so much. Will you adopt again? Yes we will. Right now we have a young girl that is with us, but in the foster system as well. We are not sure if she will be freed, but it's looking that way, at which time we will ask to adopt her as well.

I sat in front of him in English 101...he sat in front of me in Social Science. We were just classmates until three months into the first term of our freshman year. Sitting in English class, the intercom blared out the announcement that the president, John F. Kennedy, had been assassinated. Girls cried. Boys beat their fists on the desks. The teacher dismissed the students. We filed out...filled with shock and horror. I could not bring myself to take the bus and decided to walk home. Stuart offered to walk with me...it turned out we lived only four blocks from each other. The hour walk was a revelation to us both - we had so much in common - and the sad events of the day provided an opportunity for bonding as is so often the case when tragedy strikes. We began dating after winter break - and the rest is history. We married four years later after we graduated - and last August we celebrated our forty-sixth anniversary.

And, last month, we took a HUGE step and moved 2000 miles across the country to be closer to our daughter and five-year old grandson. It was a difficult task - but we persevered - and having our grandson come running in after school calling, "Grandpa, Grandma...I missed you...will you play with me?" - is a worthy reward!
When your husband had complications with his heart what did you do as a family? Stuart's first heart attack occurred the month before his 36th birthday. Our oldest child was 8 - our youngest was only a year old. We were very fortunate to have a wonderful next-door neighbor who also had three children - she was always ready to watch ours so that I could go to the hospital to visit with my husband. Also, we had been very active in our local church - parishioners stopped by with casserole dishes and offers to help in many different ways. When Stuart came home to recuperate, our children were thrilled to have their daddy back. He was very lucky and was able to return to work after a few months and soon regained his strength and endurance. His next heart attack came many years later and the children were grown by then. By the time he had his third and fourth cardiac incidents, the kids were married and living far from us, so I believe the bond between my husband and myself was strengthened even more - because it was just the two of us. What have you been doing now in your family and business life? After his fourth heart attack, my husband was forced to retire on disability. I continued to work part-time to provide our health insurance. Now that we are both retired, we have more time to pursue our passions - I write

Children are the best dreamers, they have no boundaries in their imagination and make choices based on a dream. My daughter has been many things in her 8 years: a ballet dancer, a basketball player, a singer, a makeup artist, and currently she loves to be a cheerleader and swimmer.
I think we can learn many things from children, explore possibilities we never would have thought about. Take chances and jump in water puddles every once in a while. Each day I learn something new from my kids. I'm blessed to have them and know that they were part of my Dreams when I was growing up. What do you dream about? We live in Florida and Disney World is one of the places we love to visit.

Austin was discharged from KKI and the plan is for him to continue rehab at home. He by Tina Ervin flew home with Medway Air Ambulance and had to stay at Providence hospital until all the equipment and home care was in place. Since Austin had such a long flight he developed some lung complications and had to have several procedures to remove mucus plugs and treatments to improve his breathing. We are thankful to the medical staff and team that helped him in his recovery. Austin was just cleared to leave the hospital and start his home rehab this week. It will be a continued journey of healing and support!
Emotional but good!! I had a surprise visit at the hospital, at first I didn't know if I should cry or smile. I guess I was in shock; it caught me off guard. It was an honor for me to meet Glenn Stevens! He was the first Paramedic on the scene of the car crash off Bogard Rd, in Wasilla, Alaska the night of March 22, 2013. And he saved my son's life. He is a real hero!! I also want to thank the EMT/Paramedic Jessica Woleful (Young) and Nate Durbin for being there that night! If it wasn't for the hard work of you three not giving up on Austin, he wouldn't be here today. Thank you Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services for all you do. These are the real community heroes!!

Slow-Cooker Double Chocolate Cake The holidays are finally here! In keeping with my destressing theme, Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m sharing an easy and time saving Kraft dessert to keep in mind, Slow-Cooker Double Chocolate Cake. Have a wonderful season and donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget to relax!

Ingredients Photo by KraftRecipes.com Ingredients 1 pkg. chocolate cake mix 1 pkg. Jello Chocolate Instant Pudding 1 cup sour cream 1 cup water 2/3 cup oil 4 eggs 1-1/2 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet chocolate (6 oz.), chopped 1 cup thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping Instructions Mix dry cake and pudding mixes in large bowl with whisk until blended. Add next 4 ingredients; mix well. Stir in chopped chocolate. Pour into slow cooker sprayed with cooking spray; cover with lid. Cook on low 4-5 hours (or on high 3 to 3-1/2 hours) or until top surface of cake has no wet spots and cake begins to pull away from side of slow cooker. Serve warm topped with Cool Whip. This cake serves 16 and takes only 15 minutes to prepare. The rest of the work is left to your crockpot! Note: You could probably adapt this recipe using any type of cake and pudding mixes that go together! See www.kraftrecipes.com/ for more recipes.
2 (14 oz.) cans sweetened condensed milk 9 inch graham cracker or chocolate crust Instructions Lightly grease slow cooker and pour in sweetened condensed milk. Cook covered for 4 hours on low. Stir every 30 minutes. Pour into crust and chill. Cool Whip would be a nice topping with ice cream on the side! by Cheryl Flothe Each year we look forward to the holidays with mixed feelings. Excitement and nostalgia of holidays past combine for a time when many people feel stressed. Always in the back of our minds are the must-do’s that involve spending more time, money, and effort than we may feel up to. So I suggest this year: DE-STRESS FOR THE HOLIDAYS! Get in the Spirit. Find places to go in your community where you can appreciate the season---church activities, plays, choruses, visits with Santa Claus (no matter what your age), or a magical evening drive to see light and ornament displays can lift your spirits. Bring back the memories. Keep up seasonal traditions making and using homemade decorations and pictures of past Christmases and special times again each year. Kids’ decorations are a good example. Exercise is a good stress reliever. Whether you’re in the snowy north or the balmy south, exercising, walking, and playing relaxes your body and your spirit! Take advantage of beautiful settings to make some memorable holiday pictures. Avoid meal prep time crunches. Prepare and refrigerate or freeze whatever you can in advance so you won’t have to do it at the last minute. This will really cut down on stress. Keep it simple. Make a realistic list of things you need to do and keep a calendar of activities. But be flexible, and open to change. Nothing’s engraved in stone. Do the things you want to do and leave out or delegate the rest. If you don’t have time to make home-made treats, buy them and put them into your own decorative containers. Enlist friends or family members’ help---it will be a big relief.
Save $ with heart-felt gifting and low cost local activities. One of the biggest stressors during the holidays is related to how much money we spend on gifts and activities. Nicely framed poems, photos, and art make wonderful gifts. So many ideas are available on the internet---just use your imagination. And check your local paper for programs and activities the family can enjoy that are either free or minimal cost.
