Club Torque Thank you to all those members who attended the AGM in September. I was pleased to be returned as President for another year and congratulate the new executive committee on their election. I would like to thank and congratulate Tim for his outstanding work on the executive committee for the last 14 years. We are pleased that he will continue to be the Public Officer for our club and he also represents us on the ACJC (Australian Council of Jaguar Clubs) where he has been elected President. Thanks also go to retiring register secretaries Alan Baker and Malcolm Adamson. I would also like to congratulate Ron & Claire Palmer, and Tom & Marj Brindle on being awarded life memberships for their service to the club – a well deserved honour.
The President’s Rap Our club is in a strong position and I look forward to another great year. On a recent trip to the UK, Moira & I had the opportunity to visit Wappenbury Hall and meet with Scott Shearman who was one of our guest speakers at the National Rally. Scott shared some of his plans for promoting Jaguars at his new home. We look forward to seeing Scott when he visits Adelaide. We also attended the Jaguar Drivers Club National Day at Woburn Abbey and were surprised to see a Victorian XK120 present. I estimate there were about 300 vehicles on display and it was great to see a number of rare cars. I would like to thank all those who were able to attend the President’s Picnic on Sunday October 14th at Serafino Winery. I
was pleased to meet some new members and it was great to see the number of Series 1 XJs and Mark 5s that were on display. Thanks for the donations to the Salvos and congratulations to Phil on his organisation of the event. Our club calendar is busy for the rest of the year with register and club events as well as other motoring events. Our December general meeting will again be a special Christmas function held downstairs at the Police Club with meals from 6pm. Enjoy your Jaguar motoring,

Club Torque Due to our Editors heavy work load with new job expectations I am pleased to be able to prepare this edition of Classic Marque. This edition will be a combined edition for October / November. I am pleased to be able to join with our president in thanking club members for their support of our recent “President’s Picnic”. This could well be a regular event, maybe complimenting SA JAG DAY in the autumn months of the year. We invite your feedback on this suggestion. There has been some discussion recently about the idea of the commencement of a new register within the club. The idea is to start what might be called the Modified Jaguar and Sports Register. As the name suggests this register will seek to attract members, and hopefully in particular younger members who are interested in customising and/ or modifying their cars as well as having an emphasis on sporting events. Technical sessions and workshop visits could well be a feature of the register along with participation in regularity events.
I would like to hear from anyone wishing to register an interest in such a register. Please note publicity in this edition for ALL EURO DAY and All BRITISH DAY, both events require registration so please check out the promo in this edition for more detail.

GUIDE DOGS CHARITY SUPPORTS NEW JAGUAR I-PACE SAFETY SOUNDS With no engine sound, the electric Jaguar I-PACE required a new way to warn blind, visually impaired and other vulnerable road users it is approaching at low speed. With no engine sound, the electric Jaguar I-PACE required a new way to warn blind, visually impaired and other vulnerable road users it is approaching at low speed. Jaguar has designed a unique Audible Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) for its first EV that meets and exceeds all forthcoming global legislation. Jaguar’s engineers have developed a sound that can be heard at speeds up to 20km/h and exceeds the 56dB(A) minimum required by forthcoming European legislation – the strictest in the world – for all new EVs from July 2019. The I-PACE’s sound was tested by members of Guide Dogs for the Blind, the UK’s leading charity for people affected by sight loss, as part of the testing undertaken by Jaguar. It also marks the start of an on-going relationship between the two organisations.
The alert increases in pitch and volume in line with the speed of the vehicle and, when in reverse, is accompanied by an additional tone that indicates the change in direction. AVAS is not required at higher speeds as there is sufficient wind and tyre noise for pedestrians to hear the zeroemissions vehicle approaching. Jaguar unveiled the I-PACE, its first all-electric vehicle, earlier this year to deliver sustainable sports car performance, next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) technology and five-seat SUV practicality. Fitted with a state-of-the-art 90kWh lithium-ion battery, two Jaguar-designed motors and a bespoke aluminium structure, the I-PACE is capable of 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and a range of up to 292 miles (WLTP).
Jaguar’s engineers worked for four years to develop a soundtrack that is audible yet discreet and cannot be heard from inside the vehicle. Initial attempts to create a noise inspired by the sound of sci-fi spacecraft had to be shelved after pedestrians reacted by looking up to the sky, rather than at the road, as the vehicle approached. Engineers tested sounds in a number of environments, including an anechoic chamber (specialist echo-free room) and various urban scenarios, before settling on the final sound for the I-PACE. It is emitted from a speaker located behind the front grille, can be heard in every direction and cannot be disengaged.

President’s Picnic Serafino Winery A great day was had by all at the Presidents Picnic, Serafino Winery, McLaren Vale on Sunday 14th October.
some did choose to take advantage of the fine dining in the Winery Restaurant.
Approximately 65 cars joined in the event that was arranged in lieu of the Annual SA JAG DAY this year given that the club had been responsible for the National Rally and the National Jaguar Display Day in April.
The variety of cars present was terrific with cars ranging from the Jaguar Mk IV right through to the fabulous F Types. We were pleased to see some new members joining in on the occasion.
The weather was kind despite threatening at times to spoil the party. With rain and wind threatening around 1.30pm we did break up a little earlier than we may have otherwise done.
It may well be that the “President’s Picnic” becomes an annual event. The suggestion is to have it in the Autumn months (March / April) to compliment SA JAG DAY in the Spring.
It was good to see 12 Jaguar XJ Series 1 cars present to celebrate their 50th Anniversary and 5 Jaguar Mk V cars to celebrate their 70th Anniversary. Many thanks to the owners of these cars for displaying them on the day. Whilst most people enjoyed a picnic lunch in the beautiful grounds of the winery overlooking the lake,

Club Torque Jaguar Drivers Club of SA General Meeting September 2018 Meeting Opened Pres. Julian Lugg welcomed all the people for attending and informed the General Meeting would be short because of the Annual General Meeting to follow. Minutes of Previous Meeting: Approved Business Arising: Nil Presidents Report: Julian Lugg reported on his recent trip to the UK where he attended the British Jag Day held at Woburn Abby on Sunday the 5th August. He was disappointed only about 250 -300 cars on display. Many of which has modifications and not original. Made contact with Scott Sherman, who has bought the home of Sir William Lyons. Scott may address one of our meetings when next in Adelaide. Julian thanks Vice Pres Phil Prior for filling in for his absence.

Julian then asked that Ron and Claire Palmer and Tom and Marj Brindle please leave the room. Julian then outlined the many years of continuous membership and the tremendous work and effort they had each achieved. The membership was them asked to vote on each couple. The vote for each was unanimous.

XK and Mk 7,8,9 (Robin): The Register’s main event for October is the run to Camperdown, Victoria to meet with people from the Victorian XK register from Monday 22 October to Wednesday 24th. President Julian mentioned that it was proposed that the event be just a social get together however there was a clear desire from members there should be some form of entertainment. Camperdown Run Will be Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 October plus travel time. Quite a few from our register have expressed interest in going and entries are still open. Peg and Moira agreed to ‘co-ordinate arrangements in a light handed way’.

Robin opened the meeting at 7.40pm and welcomed everyone and especially Dinu who was attending his first Register meeting. Dinu has a Mark 7 which he used as daily driver in the past, and after being in storage for some years, he is now planning to get the car running again. Club Business: Club AGM Members noted that the Club AGM had been held on the Tuesday night before our meeting and that a new treasurer, Heather Buck, had been elected. All other elected officers were re-elected.
50th National Rally Will be in Albury-Wodonga from 29 March to 1 April 2019 and is being organised by the JCC Vic. The post rally tour will be in the Yarrawonga/Echuca area. Four couples and their cars from our register are planning to attend and Julian will keep XK owners informed about co-ordinating travel, accommodation and XKspecific events. Club Christmas Function Planned for 4 December at the Police Club and will be ‘low key with emphasis on opportunities to socialize’. Choice of about 4 main courses and a few desserts for the meal and no supper and no entertainment. Register Business: Recent Event Robin thanked Peg for organising the visit to Cummins House on Sunday 5 August.
November Register Meeting Will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday the 7th at Peter and Ros Holland’s and the usual reminder will be circulated closer to the time. Register Christmas lunch Sun. 9 Dec. a similar format to recent years at the Lugg’s at Springton. Details closer to the time. Car Talk Members reported briefly on their cars, but the main discussion was around helping sort out issues with the Harrisons’ Mk 9. Election of Register Secretary Peter Holland assumed the chair for the election with the result that Robin Ide was elected for the 2018/19 Club year. Closure Julian thanked Robin and Deidre for hosting the meeting and Robin closed the formal part of the meeting at 8.20pm

The Multi-Valve Register Explore Western Victoria
Eight cars and 16 members left the truck stop at the Toll Gate at 9:00am on Saturday 29th September, bound at first for coffee at OTR next to The Bend Raceway! After leaving OTR we drove to Bordertown where we stopped for lunch then on to Horsham, arriving mid-afternoon for the first night’s accommodation. Happy Hour followed hosted by Judy and Ray, then on to dinner in the Victoria Hotel next door....very nice!

50 YEARS OF JAGUAR XJ - HISTORIC CONVOY HEADS TO PARIS MOTOR SHOW A unique convoy representing the past and present of the Jaguar XJ will journey from the Jaguar Castle Bromwich plant in the UK to the Paris Motor Show to celebrate 50 years of the flagship luxury saloon . The line-up feature all eight generations of XJ produced since 1968. The special collection will be led by the car that started it all, the Series I, and finish with the most recent XJ50 special edition, which was revealed earlier this year. The convoy will also include significant models such as the Series II Coupé and X350 XJR. Starting at Castle Bromwich, where the luxury saloon is produced, the 839km (521-mile) drive will take in a series of important locations, including Jaguar Classic, Bicester Heritage Centre and the Goodwood and Le Mans race circuits, which have played a significant role in the life of Jaguar and the XJ. Journey’s end for the convoy is the Paris Motor Show, where the Jaguar XJ Series I made its debut in 1968

XJ Mk10 420G Register Steps Back in Time
On Saturday the 8th of September, our Register headed to Clare for the week end, but not before a short detour to Blyth. On our arrival at Blyth the 48 of us headed to the Local Cinema. This theatre has been fully restored into an authentic 1960’s mini picture theatre. As we entered we were greeted by the Lovely Little Luscious Lady Lurraine who handed out the Jaffers, Fantales and Pop Corn. It was then, sit back, relax and have a good old fashion laugh watching two comedy greats, The Plank and The Big Steel. The Big Steel, being very appropriate, about the adventures of a young lad buying a Series II Jaguar XJ6. After the show it was a 15 minute drive back into Clare and to book into our accommodation. Because of our large numbers we had booked into the Clare Valley Motel and the Clare Valley Country Club. Both were excellent and after a short rest it was into Borys Potiuch’s room for some nibbles and a nice glass of red before moving into the Dining Room for an evening of fun and fine food. Birthdays were celebrated by Marj Brindle, Lurraine Davis and Walter Bullock. The next morning after a beautiful buffet breakfast it was onto the Lakeside Minature Railway where the Engine Drivers had their trains warmed up and waiting. We had two hours of the park all to ourselves and was lots of fun for all. After this it was time to head for
home, through the lovely Clare Valley, with quite a few of the local wineries getting a short visit along THE BOTTOM LINE the way.

JAGUAR XE SETS LAP RECORD AT FORGOTTEN GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT The Jaguar XE has followed the SV Project 8 performance saloon onto the track by setting a unique lap record, this time around a long-forgotten Grand Prix circuit in France. The 8km Circuit de Charade in Clermont Ferrand, which included public road sections, hosted the French Grand Prix in 1965, 1969, 1970 and 1972. It fell out of favour as loose volcanic rock and the lack of any real run-off areas took their toll on cars and drivers alike. The full, longer circuit was last used in 1988 so Jaguar returned to the historic track to mark the anniversary of its closure by completing the first flying lap of the circuit in three decades. After completing the fastest ever lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a production saloon behind the wheel of the XE’s track-ready stablemate, the SV Project 8, driver Vincent Radermecker attempted to set a production saloon lap record in the XE 300 SPORT. With a roundabout and two narrow gateways not used in the original circuit to contend with, Vincent lapped the demanding track in just 4 minutes 09 seconds at an average speed of 116km/h (72mph).
The XE 300 SPORT is powered by a 300PS 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine and is capable of 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds (0-60mph in 5.4 seconds). With 400Nm of torque, Vincent was able to make full use of the XE’s exceptional handling capabilities to exploit the smallest of opportunities throughout the twisty, undulating track, which snakes around the extinct volcano that sits in the centre of the original layout With its dynamic design and aluminium-intensive body construction, the XE provides the perfect basis for the enhanced performance of the SV Project 8. Taking the already agile and responsive handling of the standard car, the SV Project 8 takes things to the next level with a range of engineering enhancements. Available exclusively with the 300PS 2.0-litre petrol engine, all 300 SPORT models feature unique Dark Satin Grey details including the door mirror caps, rear spoiler and grille surround, along with 300 SPORT badging on the front grille and boot lid.
Distinctive 19-inch or 20-inch Satin Technical Grey finish wheels are exclusive to the special edition along with 300 SPORT-branded brake callipers. Customers can choose from four exterior colours: Yulong White, Indus Silver, Santorini Black and Caldera Red..
