CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE The Capstone experience differs from major to major, but its purpose is to ensure that all seniors demonstrate their accumulated knowledge through action and effectively communicate their knowledge and actions to others in an interdisciplinary setting.

BACCALAUREATE AWARDS Baccalaureate awards are presented to the graduating students in each baccalaureate program who are selected by the faculty for their interest and excellence within the major. Recipients must be full-time students and have completed at least 50 percent of their credits for graduation while attending Colby-Sawyer.

ACADEMIC HONORS guy floyd williams award The Guy Floyd Williams Award is presented to a graduating science major who has helped to maintain and perpetuate the ideals of the college during the graduate’s years at Colby-Sawyer and who, through appropriate conduct, scholarship and decorum, has exemplified the spirit of the college. richard crosby memorial award The Richard Crosby Memorial Award was established in 1976 in honor of Professor Crosby, a member of the English Department from 1952 to 1976. The award is given to a student who excels in the knowledge and appreciation of British literature. Victoria R. Whitten

alpha chi award The Alpha Chi Award is given to one or more graduating students who, in the eyes of the members of Alpha Chi, best exemplifies the ideas of the society – truth and character – through work at the college in support of chapter activities. Serene Chua

HONOR SOCIETIES AND GRADUATE HONOR CORDS alpha chi national college honor society The Colby-Sawyer College chapter of this national honor society recognizes the academic achievement of juniors and seniors. To be eligible for membership a student must rank in the top 10 percent of the junior or senior class and demonstrate the Alpha Chi values of truth and character. iota tau alpha for athletic training education The college’s chapter of this honor society promotes, recognizes and encourages outstanding scholarly achievement of students enrolled in the athletic training education major. Members must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and rank in the top 35 percent of their class. Honor cords of red, yellow and blue are worn by graduates. Meghan A. Clark

lambda pi eta, the honor society of the national communication association The college’s chapter of this national honor society in communication studies fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. Members must have completed 60 credit hours, with 12 in communication studies courses; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.25 in communication studies courses; and rank in the top 30 percent of their class. colby-sawyer college honor society for nursing The Colby-Sawyer College Honor Society for Nursing is dedicated to improving the health of people worldwide by increasing the scientific base of nursing practice. Members must have a GPA of 3.0, rank in the top 35 percent of their graduating class, meet the expectation of academic integrity and obtain faculty endorsements. psi chi, the national honor society in psychology The purpose of this national honor society in psychology is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. Members must rank in the top 35 percent of the class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in psychology courses. They must have completed at least three college semesters and nine credits of psychology courses and be enrolled in a program of study with strong psychological content. sigma beta delta international honor society in business, management and administration Sigma Beta Delta, the international honor society in business, management and administration, honors the academic excellence and integrity of business administration and health care management majors. Members must rank in the top 20 percent of the senior class or the top 20 percent of the junior class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and show a record of academic honesty and integrity. wesson honors program The Wesson Honors Program is designed to provide highly motivated students with an optional intensive experience in the liberal arts. STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARDS ann gulick award This award was established in memory of Ann Gulick ’54 by her classmates. It is presented to the sophomore student who best exemplifies, through voluntary service, the qualities of reliability, loyalty and unselfishness. The recipient of this award is chosen by vote of the sophomore class. Benjamin A. Maines

edith stockman ruettinger award The gift of a member of the class of 1932, this award is granted to a female student in the liberal arts program who is continuing her education toward a bachelor’s degree. The recipient is selected on the basis of scholarship, character, need and future goals. Kelsey A. Sullivan

gula graves plummer award This award is granted to the student or students who have distinguished themselves through the exercise of spiritual and/or moral leadership in the college community, or through academic work informed by their religious commitments. Serene Chua

class academic awards Awards are presented by the college each spring to the sophomore and junior students who rank highest in scholarship in the appropriate class. LEADERSHIP AWARDS graduate award The Graduate Award is presented each spring to the member of the graduating class whose character and influence most constructively affected the majority of the junior class members. The recipient of this award is chosen by the junior class. Jesse E. Socci

senior achievement award This award is presented each year to a graduate who has distinguished himself or herself through leadership in the cocurricular life of the college. The recipient of this award is nominated by faculty and staff. Anurup Upadhyay
