ACADEMIC HONORS GUY FLOYD WILLIAMS AWARD The Guy Floyd Williams Award is presented to a graduating science major who has helped to maintain and perpetuate the ideals of the college during the graduate’s years at Colby-Sawyer and who, through appropriate conduct, scholarship and decorum, has exemplified the spirit of the college. RICHARD CROSBY AWARD The Richard Crosby Award is presented to a student for excellence in British Literature. The award was established in memory of Richard Crosby, who taught at the college and was chair of the English Department from 1952 until his death on September 4, 1976. Shannon St. Peter

ALPHA CHI AWARD The Alpha Chi Award is given to one or more graduating students who, in the eyes of the members of Alpha Chi, best exemplifies the ideals of the society – truth and character – through work at the college in support of chapter activities. Abhineet Kumar

ALPHA CHI NATIONAL COLLEGE HONOR SOCIETY The Colby-Sawyer College chapter of this national honor society recognizes the academic achievement of juniors and seniors. To be eligible for membership a student must rank in the top 10 percent of the junior or senior class and demonstrate the Alpha Chi values of truth and character. IOTA TAU ALPHA HONOR SOCIETY The purpose of this honor society is to promote, recognize and encourage outstanding scholarly achievement of students enrolled in the athletic training education major. Members must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and rank in the top 35 percent of their class. Honor cords of red, yellow and blue are worn by graduates, as well as a tassel of gold to denote Latin honors. LAMBDA PI ETA HONOR SOCIETY The purpose of this national honor society in communication studies is to foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. Members must have completed 60 credit hours, with 12 in communication studies courses; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.25 in communication studies courses; and rank in the top 30 percent of their class. PSI CHI HONOR SOCIETY The purpose of this international honor society in psychology is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. Members must rank in the top 35 percent of the class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in psychology courses. They must have completed at least three college semesters and nine credits of psychology courses and be enrolled in a program of study with strong psychological content. SIGMA BETA DELTA HONOR SOCIETY The purpose of this international honor society in business, management and administration is to honor the academic excellence and integrity of business administration and health care management majors. Members must rank in the top 20 percent of the senior class or the top 20 percent of the junior class, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and show a record of academic honesty and integrity. Sigma Beta Delta members are expected to embrace its principles of wisdom, honorable service and the pursuit of meaningful aspirations. WESSON HONORS PROGRAM The Wesson Honors Program is designed to provide highly motivated students with an optional intensive experience in the liberal arts. On completion of honors courses and a Capstone, graduating students receive an honors certificate, a blue and white honors cord and the designation Wesson Honors Program is added to their diplomas and transcripts, as well as a tassel of gold to denote honors. SOPHOMORE AND JUNIOR CLASS ACADEMIC AWARDS Awards are presented by the college each spring to the sophomore and junior students who rank highest in scholarship in the appropriate class. ANN GULICK AWARD Established in memory of Ann Gulick ’54 by her classmates, this award is presented to the sophomore who best exemplifies, through voluntary service, the qualities of reliability, loyalty and unselfishness.
