EXPLORING AFRICA THROUGH LITERATURE

This course looks at the traditional Igbo society in West Africa through two novels (Things Fall Apart and No Longer At Ease) written by the prominent African writer Chinua Achebe, both of which are based on true depictions of African history. The novels together offer a rich context demonstrating the traditional Igbo society and the prejudices and pitfalls of life under colonial rule. In class, both books will be read and discussed.
